I checked Princeton’s transfer applications back in Fall 2017, but they didn’t accept any. So I didn’t apply, I was completely unaware of the changes that they had made.
Good luck to all of you, I hope you guys get in your dream schools!

I remember when I went to visit that the admissions officer said transfer students could petition to come in as a freshman after they were accepted as sophomores, credits depending. Seems pretty interesting and a nice way to get the full experience.
@Eggyeol That’s really interesting! Thanks for the info, that could be a valid option for some folks depending on their credit situation.
If I do get accepted, I am going to look into that. I would actually like to come in as a freshman, the reason being is that I have not had the chance to take any of the honor calculus classes, and that’s something I would definitely like. I’m curious to know what it depends on.
Personally I’d like to come in as a first semester sophomore (as opposed to junior). I don’t want to lose too much time but also don’t want to join half way through a college career where most "social " circles have been formed already.
Then again, the transfer group would probably be a tight circle in of itself right?
As someone who is quite a bit older than most applicants, I’ve sort of been of the opinion that most college age people probably wouldn’t want to be social with me. Of course I could be wrong. It would be nice if some of the other transfer applicants were older, but I’m assuming most of you are in your 20’s.
Yeah, a big part of my transfer worries come more from the social situation than the academic one. It is the entire idea of readjusting to a new social setting and college that your peers have already attended for a year so coming in as a freshman mitigates that.
I’d rather come in as a junior since I just don’t want to lose so much time, and retake so many classes I already took. As an older individual on campus, I find it is harder for me to relate to the younger students, than for them to relate to me. I’ve also had no difficulty relating to the students who are in their 30’s, but I’m sure they have found it harder to relate to me since I am much younger than they are. I think if you make the effort, you will have no problem fitting in as long as you are comfortable with the younger students.
As a student who is 34, I’m hoping that there will be at least a few students who won’t have a hard time relating to me. I look really young, when I was at the community college I fit in really well. It would probably be best for me to be a junior is well just because I plan on going to graduate school, so losing time probably isn’t the best thing for me.
I’m not that concerned about the social scene just because I spend most of my time doing mathematics anyways
@IndirectProofs I can relate/connect with you!
Any news on the decision date?
@CC12342021 The Transfer section of their website says mid-may, so I’d guess similar to the other top Ivy’s who release on or around May 15th.
Thank you @SmartJarhead
How excited is everyone? This is so cool honestly.
@CC12342021 No problem And I’m super pumped, May can’t come fast enough.
@CC12342021 Thanks! I’m so excited too. One of the things that draws me about Princeton is how hard the math is, and how much they expect out of the students. When I was at the community college, I didn’t like it. Every time we were about to cover a difficult math concept, the teacher would skip it. Then the exams would be too easy.
I’ve been told that the exams at Princeton and similar schools are so hard that a lot of students get less than 70%. This is something that I really want.
What I meant on my previous post (which may have come out wrong) is that I want to go to a school that expects the most from its students.
Yeah this is largely true for most students. Then you get the one or two that finish with 45 minutes to spare.
FWIW the quality of the Princeton faculty is pretty great: https://www.princeton.edu/news/2018/03/20/langlands-receives-abel-prize-visionary-mathematics-discovery-made-princeton
Good luck to you all!
@psywar Thank you for sharing. I have heard the same thing about Princeton faculty. As a nontraditional student, I definitely want to go to a school where I feel welcomed.
That’s wonderful to hear that he won the Abel Prize, it is a well known prize in mathematics.
