*OFFICIAL PSAT THREAD 2014 (US)*

Returning to the question with the duck picture, I was torn between the careful/complex and abstract/evocative one. Im probably wrong, but I chose the latter because they kept using language like “a swirl of ducks” and when it described the girl in the painting it said “white dress, dark hair” and the guy had to tell her it was her, implying it looked abstract so otherwise she couldn’t tell it was her. It was a complex painting, true, but abstract paintings can be complex. And the careful part really bothered me. I thought it meant it was calculated - to be evocative. Rember how when she saw it she instantly remembered the day they met… It just seemed to fit better for me

@LoveA2Trig‌ Really??? oh I didn’t know that. Thanks

math sec ball probability is 7

For the vocab question regarding brevity what did you guys put? And was “contrasts with” an option or only contributes to?

I was not sure, but I put down “abstract and evocative” as it did influence the ideas of the girl (forgot her name now). I also assumed that most paintings are abstract, and the grouping of several subjects onto the painting made me think abstract.

also does anyone know about next years PSAT? They are changing it again, and that will impact me. This year was a “practice run”. I didn’t know they were changing it. Won’t that change the qualifying scores for scholarship? The test will be longer and scores change. I’m really upset, considering how much work I’ve put into studying for the original version.

@braynay‌ what were the choices? i think i got that one wrong…

what was the question?

anyone took form W for PSAT this year who remembers what they put for #17 math section 2?

Here are the cut off scores for the past 5 years if you’re interested.

http://www.collegeplanningsimplified.com/NationalMerit.html</a></p>

@penngirlpending here’s a pretty rough comparison b/w this and next year’s psat. they’re gonna return to the 1600 scale, and practice questions will be out dec 14/jan 15 and a full length test march 2015. <a href=“How the PSAT/NMSQT Is Structured – SAT Suite | College Board”>https://www.collegeboard.org/delivering-opportunity/redesigned-psat-nmsqt/compare-tests</a></p>

I didn’t realize they were also changing the PSAT as well…
Honestly it sucks to be a junior.

Triangle problem: (A) III only

Hypothesis/qualification: qualification

Marbles problem: 7

Careful/complex vs. abstract/evocative: careful/complex

All these questions I just talked with my Veritas tutor about. (He was a PSAT Semifinalist three years ago). It’s still possible that he’s wrong though.

@archduke‌ I think a couple pages back a few people settled on it being I and III for sure

@RedWings5535 what was the triangle problem question? I didn’t take the Saturday test

@puppylove97‌ you were looking for the probability that you would land in the shaded area

So guys what is the final on:
A rock formation in australia is said to be MORE/MOST beautiful at sunset than other times.

Most

does anybody know how the curve is determined?

I think for the more vs. most debate the answer is more because the “other times” are plural, BUT it’s represented as one idea. Plus, the question had the word “than” in it, and I don’t think you can use than with “most”
