Congrats to all - our letter arrived today as well (NYC - Staten Island) - and D was accepted.
Ben51094 - sounds like you and my daughter have the same options - is HC your first choice? i think she’s leaning toward BC, probably because i’m pushing HC and Colgate - Congratulations and Best of Luck!

I got my acceptance letter here in Virgina today too. It is now decision time. Will I be a third generation Crusader? I am still waiting on William & Mary. Fairfield has offered a very nice scholarship.

Big white envelope arrived minutes ago for my D–she isn’t home from school yet and now I have to stare at it for 2 more hours! Hopefully good news in Northern California.

My twins got their acceptance letter today, very happy, but muted by the fact they didn’t include the FA. I don’t know why they couldn’t do it all together (like Providence for example) but that’s the way they do it. For us, it’s “yeah!” but also guarded because the FA can make it not a viable choice.

Congrats to the twins! we were waiting to hear from you guys…a few more days and you’ll see the whole package. Maybe the reason they don’t send it together is because the two office work very independently of each other…as your ability to pay is not factored into the decision as it is at some other schools. good luck! Hope your girls do well with FA!

Hello ALSDAD13, Indeed BC is my first choice also. I plan to major in biology/biochem. I was accepted in Dec via EA. Housing is for 3 years, not a big deal. I know a few kids who are going there. My family and I attended Admitted Eagle Day in January. Did your D apply EA to BC? What is her intended major at BC?

I like HC a lot with their new science building. I am disappointed about not getting into the Pre Med program at HC. I really like Colgate and Lafayette as well, but both are in rural areas. My parents love Colgate, but the appeal of Boston is a main factor.

Holy Cross is my second choice. I am not sure that I am willing to pay $52k and not get into the Pre Med Program. I am confident that I can be competitive for 2nd year students, but there are many bright students competing. Does one of the other 3 schools make more sense for me at this point. I will attend the HC accepted students open house in April to gain further insight.

secondonein, thank you, on reflection, you are right, they are independent of each other and I just don’t like waiting.
I’m trying to prepare a list of colleges to go too for accepted student weekends and don’t want to go anywhere we can’t afford or afford with a little pain. : )
I will keep fingers crossed for good news the by the end of the week.

Unfortunately I was denied- it is a great school and truly my loss. My grandfather, dad and my brother (transfer) attended. Would have been a dream come true. Perhaps a transfer is in the offing but for all that get accepted to this great school you have been blessed and congratulations. I am really happy for all of you that get to have that life changing experience

Go be a Crusader- I was willing to give up Georgetown and UVA nursing to go

Denied…not really a surprise

I knew I had a bad feeling about holy cross when I didn’t get any mail from them on Saturday…I live really close. But I’m not stressing it. I applied biology pre med. The hardest program to be accepted to at HC. I was blessed enough to be accepted to BC early action. So that’s where I’ll be attending. It’s been my number one since freshman year. Good luck to all and congrats to those accepted.

Bostonvillanova

choose BC!! Or even HC. Just don’t choose Nova :)

to ben-- I recommend that you attend the accepted students open house and ask a lot of questions about pre-med. Holy Cross has had extraordinary success over the years with students applying to medical school-something along the lines of 85 to 90% acceptance rate. I’ll mention one HC grad that you’ve probably seen on TV a number of times, Dr Anthony Fauci, HC '66 (Cornell Medical School) , head of the Natl Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, the “go to guy” for the news networks on Aids and other such diseases. Decades ago Dr Joseph Kerwin, HC 53 (Northwestern Medical School) became the first physician in space as a US astronaut. They are followed every year by other Crusaders who go on to medical schools and on to prominent roles as physicians.

Good luck with your decision.

I have done work with Dr Fauci at NIH-- I go to High School right across from NIH. Most of my clinical work has been at NCI with Dr Wood but through the Children’s Inn I have met most of the people as they care for the kids at the inn.

I love HC just wish I had been admitted!! Anybody that has the chance to attend should

Accepted in Ohio and really excited I haven’t made a final decision yet, but HC is definitely near the top of my list.

I’m probably going to attend…depends slightly on financial aid package as well, but I’ve been reading a lot of reviews and the school seems amazing in terms of academics and such…

except one problem, and I’m hoping you guys could answer this.

I’m an asian american, would I be able to survive socially, in a school known for the exclusive suburban white students? I drink and have tons of white friends, but I don’t want to go there and be excluded from the party scenes just because of my race

okay this sounds hilarious, but please answer haha

Holy Cross has students of all races and I’m sure you can check for exact data. According to one college site Holy Cross has 5.86% Asian students. I can point out one prominent Asian American: In the class of 2013, HC signed the first athlete of Sri Lankan ethnicity ever to receive a Div-1 basketball scholarship. Eric Obeyesekere is a current freshman from Northern California, quite the adademic and athletic standout in high school, and a very promising basketball player. I cannot imagine that you’d be treated differently than any other student in your class.

It’s not the problem with diversity; I actually like it that it’s not so diverse, and I am proud of my ethnicity (I know this sounds really close-minded, and I probably am a bit in that aspect), but if you have attended my high school with its overflowing asian population, you wouldn’t mind getting a bit of an escape too haha. I’m an extremely “white” asian, but just wondering if it’s difficult to be in that certain group of friends (if you know what I’m hinting at) or would I be resorted to sticking with other asians.

and congratulations on your daughter being accepted to HC.

Hey Ben - My daughter’s intended major at BC is Bio, and she applied RD. Like KY Crusader 75, i am a big fan of HC’s track record for admissions to Med School, and since that is D’s intended career path, it continues to be my #1 suggestion. She was fortunate enough to get into the pre-Health Advisory track, so my position is that it’s a clear decision, but it is her decision, ultimately. She is also enamored with the Boston appeal, and we’re driving up next week to take a tour.

ALSDAD13, congratulations on your daughter’s acceptance!

Although Worcester is about 45min away from Boston (1hr+ in traffic especially with route 9), Boston is one heck of a city to be close to.

I live in a suburb of boston, and it’s one of the greatest cities I know. It has all the modern city-life that a teen/college-student would want, but also has preserved some very cultural and artistic buildings. (I mean, just look at all of the well-known colleges, including some of the best art/music schools in the nation, and including one of the best known orchestras/music groups)

If you want some suggestions of where to go out to eat or such small things in Boston, pm me. I can help you guys a lot (unless you guys already come to Boston often) haha

accepted! really excited because I love Holy Cross. Waiting on finacial aid. Collegebro23, I also got a really nice scholarship from Fairfield. Its going to be a hard choice. Congrat to all who were also accepted!

D-accepted today "as a biology major for the premedical/predental sequence. I am assuming this means that she is in the pre-health program. We did not apply for financial aid but does anyone know if the the small number of merit scholarships that HC offers would have come with the acceptance letter or would they send it next week with the financial aid packets.
Just glad to be in at this point and now dealing with the realization of the expense!
