OFFICIAL ***Requirements/Stats for BS/MD***

Hey guys!

What are the requirements for the BS/MD Combined 7/8-year med programs? (ex. USC, UCLA, BU, NORTHWESTERN, BROWN, UCSD, ETC) Are such things are the SAT 2 Chem an absolute must before applying?

Also, what SAT Scores are needed? What EC's? People who have gotten in or are planning to apply, post your STATS!!! thanks! :)

Usually u have to get into the schools honors college and their gpa is usually 3.5-3.8 depending on the school and wether it's state or private.

i heard a 4.0+ with 2250+ was needed?! thats really high..eek! :(

Depends on if its state sponsered pr private..private obv. Is is higher

BA/MD Programs - U.S. School Listing - Medical School Help

a 4.0 with a 2250 gpa and ecellent rec's will get you into any school. Don't listen to people who tell you that you must have these to have a fighting chance at any top school or good program.

If you have focused EC's that are medically related, have a gpa above 3.75 with a tough course load, and have a SAT that is 2100 or higher you have a shot at any bs/md program.

Rh, spend some time on the multiple degree forum, you'll see that a 2250 in for the most part needed.

Yea those standards are pretty high...
And is it always SAT they require? Aren't there any BS/MD programs that accept ACT scores? (for ex, Wayne State's MedStart Program)

For those on your list, 4.0uw and close to perfect SAT pretty much is a must. Even with these stats there is no quarantee. However, there are other bs/md programs that are still competitive, but less than the ones you mentioned.

omg...UCSD is ridiculous!, lol

Agree with Rh.

it all depend on which program u want to apply. although i am a a freshmen in high school, i know for sure that brown might have a higher standerd than albany union however it all comes down to your gpa, ec, and your sat score. Teacher recomendation is huge booster. Actually i get many info abt this bc my mom is a docter herself and she interacts with resident and medical student who went through that hell process lol.

buuumpppppppppp

What kind of EC’s does UCSD want when they take in students for their 6 year medical scholars program?
I have a 4.22 GPA, I have a lot of volunteering and positions in clubs, youth groups, etc. I got a 2160 on my SAT. but i know UCSD wants a 2250? so if i get that score, what could i do to help me in my medical EC section?

Hi everyone,

I am kind of new to this forum, but I have been reading the CC posts for about 2 years.

I just wanted to add my stats and get feedback from those reading this thread.

I want to get into a bs/md medical programs (just like everyone else lol)

First of all, with all the mentioned amazing scores, I really think combined med programs are looking for someone with a passion for medicine, not just beastly scores. Think about it, do they want to waste time and money on a student who may opt out for another profession?

Based on what friends who have gone to these programs and have applied as well told me, after reaching a certain point on good scores scale, the applicant pool gets drained by looking at ECs. So I guess my message is that even if you don’t have perfect scores, you still have a good chance as long as you show commitment to medicine.

Here are my stats:

School:

-IB English HL
-IB Math Sl
-IB Psychology SL
-IB Physics HL
-IB Biology HL
-IB Chemistry HL
-IB Spanish SL

-Amnesty International
-Volunteers in Action
-Other various clubs

Test Scores:
-Hope to get 4s or 5s on all my AP tests
-PLAN score of 28 without studying, so hopefully a 34 or 35 on the real ACT.
-currently planning on getting 2200 + on my SAT
-SAT IIs are still pending, but I will take Math, Bio, and Chem for sure (IB classes should help me prepare for these fairly well)

Volunteering/ECs outside of school:
-Volunteer at 3 hospitals: plan to reach 900 hours by the end of senior year at the rate i’m going (activities included general patient care: cleaning up, talking to, etc. , some office work, actual onsite helping nurses, working in the E.R. helping doctors out, etc.)
-Volunteer at the VA, plan on reaching about 200 hours here at the rate I am going
-Volunteered about 150 hours at a village hospital in India helping out the poor.
-Co - created a medical abstract with some medical students and researchers
-Internship with radiologist in Chicago
-Volunteered at a large indian hospital (in India) for about 50 hours.
-Have done research in a lab as well
-Taken college courses relating to medicine and science outside of school
-Went to South Africa and spent the whole summer volunteering to help AIDS patients as well as researching with doctors stationed there. (did some shadowing as well). The volunteering was almost everyday for about 5 - 7 hours for about 2 months, so almost 375 hours of volunteering there
-Volunteered at a local center where I actually got to work with disabled children (this was about 40 hours, and I plan to go back for about another 40 hours)
-Have shadowed multiple doctors in the town.
-Also had an active role in campaigning for and actually collecting donations for Cancer research. (almost like a door - door request system).
-Also, with the VA, I also went around trying to collect donations for veterans as well.
-Lastly, other random volunteering experiences as well, such as library, which I would consider at least 100- 150 hours.

If anyone would care to give me opinions on stats as well as posting weather or not they think that this is what colleges with combined programs are looking for, I think it would help me out greatly as well as give others a good idea about these programs as well!

The Chance…wow…im only a freshman, but honestly, after looking at ur ECs and volunteering activities, i rly think that you have an EXCELLEENT shot at these programs! Keep up the great work! o and btw, can you give me some tips on how to get into research programs for the summer and stuff similarly to yours? so far im volunteering at a senior nursing home facility and im gonna volunteer at a hospital really soon, but i was wondering how i can do as much as you?! LOL. it would help! if you want to know my gpa, my weighted is 4.45, and unweighted, is 4.0  ok! can you please give me some advice on the volunteering/ec section?! thank you! :D

@TheChance

I’m currently a freshman and I am amazed by your achievements. With all the medical related ECs you have, it’s almost a guarantee that you’ll get into a BS/MD program–if you score well on your AP tests, ACT, and SAT. :)

Your ECs are an inspiration.
