@b4sicallyid0work or Asian overall. XD
My daughter is in Brown and it’s fantastic except it is a very long walk to the gym
Does anyone know when we will get acceptance letters/esther logins through the mail?
Also, how did you guys know that you had received a scholarship? Was it through email?
@bob6500 If you got one there should be a link at the bottom of your acceptance letter
How do you know if you got a merit scholarship?
Got waitlisted… Soooo nervous!!!
And why is the Rice section so cold on the cc
If anyone’s wondering how to get the ESTHER log-in, I emailed them and they gave it to me. @DrOggTrollMD

General Comments/Advice/Hindsight: I am hyped to get into Rice, first reach school I have got into!!! Even more surprised that I was awarded a 25k/year Trustee Scholarship. Advice to anyone applying, focus on ECs don’t get caught up in a stereotypical mold!
I just called, and the guy in financial aid said the student (not parent) must send an email to fina@rice.edu from the email address Rice has on file for the student and request an ESTHER login. The student will then need to provide his/her full name and birthdate and possibly Rice application ID. He also said packages with financial aid info are coming via snail mail and should arrive soon. Apparently Rice sent out an email in January with this info. However, my D can’t find the Jan. email.
I’ve just received my account for Esther.
But it seems that the 17-18 Financial Aid Information isn’t available at the moment.
Is this normal?
Although I’ve asked for need-based FA, nothing is coming out on the portal.
(+I also haven’t been notified for any missing FA documents)
@googlingtony My son is from Maine. I am sure he will be happy to hear someone else got in close by. He is from Scarborough. There is a Rice facebook book page plus a group me. Maybe he will find you there.
@WAITINGSOUL I was able to see my 17-18 FA information (got in RD).

Reflection
•Strengths:
•Weaknesses:
•Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected:I think they were VERY holistic this year and I’ve shown interest since 9th gd, and when I submitted the app it was my dream school and that was very clear.
•Where else you are applying or have already applied:Tulane (Accepted, Attending), University of Miami (Accepted), University of Florida (Accepted), Pratt (Accepted)
General Comments/Advice/Hindsight: Don’t doubt yourself I thought I wouldn’t get in bc I’m lower 25% of their stats and if I did I wouldn’t get enough money to attend. I did both. Got about 52 k which is not too shabby they are very generous, my second highest offer.
Will some of you who were accepted to Tulane but are attending Rice, please let them know you aren’t going? My son was rejected from Rice but still no decision from Tulane. I think they are waiting to see what acceptances will follow through. At least we are still hoping.
Unfortunately the system is broken and it is in the accepted student and their family’s best interest not to decline admissions until the end – these schools need their yield numbers and in some cases will find merit $ to sway a student. These discussions take place up until May 1.The system really favors the universities and not the students:(. Now if a student knows with certainty where they will attend and add’l merit $ won’t change their mind, then the right thing to do is to decline.
Heck, my kid’s school has around 40 kids who get into UCLA every year, and my kid was top 20 students gpa wise and a NMF with great ECs related to his non-STEM major. I thought his essays were pretty good also. And I thought my kid would get into UCLA but he got waitlisted. Basically, you can be admitted to Harvard/Stanford and still not get into UCLA – I learned my lesson. lol I would never consider UCLA/UC Berkeley “safety” schools though – maybe “match” schools but never “safety”. To me, “safety” school is a school to which you will get in 99%. For our kid, that was an Honors College at some OOS state school ranked around 120th.
@websensation Tufts syndrome? maybe?
