Official Rice University Class of 2013 ED Thread

thanhtra-
You are welcome. I am excited for all of you!! Can't wait to hear the results! Good luck!!!
When DS got in ED, I had already purchased (ordered over the phone and had it shipped) a Rice hat, Tshirt and car decal from the college store. So, when the good news arrived in the email, I pulled out the box with the hat, shirt and decal and gave him an early holiday present. It still makes me smile.

Sad part-- a friend of his had also applied ED-- and wanted to do Rice-Baylor. DS called his friend to tell him the results were available on line. The friend wasnt home so asked my S to look up his results, and gave my s his password. The friend was deferred. We felt terrible. The friend thought my s was messing with him, and didn't want to believe it. We really felt terrible for him.

^^^that's really unfortunate for his friend. No one else from my school is applying ED to any top schools (besides myself of course). I was thinking that I should have gotten some items at the bookstore while I was there but I didnt want it to be a waste just in case.

Guys the more I think about it the more convinced I become that we will hear before the 15th. Think about it the 15th is the deadline so if they don't notify you before then you could have an excuse to get out of the ED agreement because they didn't hold up their end of the agreement. Obviously they want to do anything within their power to prevent this from happening to many people because it would hurt their yield. Now, there is no mail on sunday and the admissions office can't assume that everyone has access to the internet so the latest they could send out the letters with a reasonable chance of us getting them on monday is saturday... If they send out the letters on saturday (at the latest) why wouldn't they also update the site then?

All that said, obviously I'm not an admissions officer so I don't know for sure... but it does seem likely.

@ Phade: The agreement is that you will hear by the 15th not on the 15th. They covered their tracks on that.

Phade does make an interesting point because if they mailed things out on Monday, I wouldnt get it until Thurday at the earliest. Even if it was Saturday, then I might not get it until Tuesday or Wednesday. Well hopefully we will know sooner than later. I think (not sure) that last year, people heard a couple of days before April 1 so it might be the same for us.

"@ Phade: The agreement is that you will hear by the 15th not on the 15th. They covered their tracks on that. "

Yeah but if they don't mail it by saturday its impossible for you to hear by the 15th (by mail). My whole argument is based on the assumption that they can't assume that all applicants have access to email notification, which may not be true.

I think email address is a required space on the common app. I may be wrong but wouldn't someone not be able to apply if they didn't have some sort of email or some other agreement with the admissions office?

^^^That is also very true. Maybe someone should just call them and ask.

"I think email address is a required space on the common app. I may be wrong but wouldn't someone not be able to apply if they didn't have some sort of email or some other agreement with the admissions office?"
Some people apply on paper so they would still be able to apply without filling in an email address.

Then those people would probably just receive notification through the mail in the form of a hard copy.

Hey Future Owls! I applied Early Decision last year, and I received "the email" at 6:04PM on 14 December. Hopefully you guys will also receive the best email ever early as well! See you when you matriculate!

With all these previous years' stories, there is hope for us!!!
I realllllllllly hope we can find out by Friday =/

^^^me too. I'm going to check each day at 6 just in case.

woooo...a lot of ivy schools are already releasing their decisions...

less than a week left...sigh

I dont see why Rice couldnt do theirs early. I mean, they are a much smaller school and probably get fewer applications so there isnt any reason why they cant compete with the others. Hopefully, we will know soon. Maybe even today.

oh lord dont say that. i would faint if we got them today. i'm so nervous. this is ridiculous. i had no idea that this would be so nerve-wracking.

^^^lol. I'd faint too if I check my inbox and I have an email from Rice. I think that I'll literally pass out.

Before now waiting wasn't bothering me, even yesterday I was chill, but now, after reading all the threads in the ivy league about acceptances/denials/deferrals, I'm all hyped up. Waiting ****ing SUCKS

hey good luck guys! im applying reg decision but for the rice baylor...i love the school and i was born down there...its a great place

I am soooo scared about the dreadful rejection letter...wouldn't it be lovely if at least all of us on here who care sooo much get accepted?? ehh
There should be a way for Rice admissions people to see this lol
