@NJDadof3 HA! I see you posted your good news at PI time (3:14 pm). How appropriate. Coincidence or Planned?
Anyway, Congratulations to your daughter!

@CrazyMomof3â pure coincidence, though very appropriate.
Congrats @NJDadof3! How did you receive your Merit/FA package? Was it via the mail or the portal? Weâre still waiting for any good news⊠My S was accepted to start in January. Thanks.
I jumped back in here to askâŠI got waitlisted by RPI (insert depressed emoji). Iâm a female student looking to go into their material engineering major. I emailed my state Rep and she said they anticipate to get people off the waitlist this year as well.
Does anyone know around how many kids get an offer through waitlist? And how do they determine who gets off and who doesnât since they donât rank!? If Iâm accepted through the waitlist, will my FA decrease? HELPPP
Hi, I was accepted to RPI back on pi day in mid march and I am currently looking at the aid package compared to other schools. Does anyone know 1.) if RPI will match other schools aid packages (specifically Case Western or WPI) and 2.) how I would go about requesting something like that?
Did anyone else receive news today of merit scholarships? It was a surprise to me as I was not told of this with my acceptance letter. Glad I waited to respond because I was about to decline! Does anyone know how merit scholarships are awarded? For example, is the leadership award the same amount for everyone?
@FifthOfTenâ I think email. Daughter got it somehow and forwarded it. I must reiterate, the award shocked my wife and caused my daughter to rethink her plans. RPI wasnât even on her radar. now itâs in the top 2. She had basically decided UMd was where she was going as GaTech was just not coming up with the funds needed, but now this puts RPI in line with what it would cost to send her to RU instate.
We canât make the accepted studentâs weekend as weâll be at UMd, looking to see if theyâll up the ante. If not, it appears RPI will have a legacy student in the fall.
Officially declined my spot at RPI, for their financial offer isnât nearly as good at my offers from UConn or Georgia Tech. Though I wonât be attending in the fall, Iâm still honored to be accepted. Best of luck to all of you in whatever endeavors you partake in. Peace :-h
Possibly a silly question but what will they do differently at accepted students day that they didnât already do if you took a tour?

@jjh2003 My daughter will also be declining RPI because the scholarship, while great, doesnât bring the cost down enough for our family. Perhaps you will meet her at UCONN as that is where she has decided to go.
Anyone know whether the awards offered to freshmen are usually renewed for the entire 4 years (providing grades are satisfactory)? My daughter was accepted to RPI with a generous financial package (RPI award + the Leadership Award) that with Fafsa grants/loans puts it within reach. But thereâs no point in her enrolling if the next year those scholarships wonât be there. Thereâs no indication either way in her acceptance letter. Anyone have experience with this? (She already turned down Carnegie Mellon as their financial aid offer wasnât large enough, leaving too high of an EFC. Sheâs also waitlisted by Chicago, Cornell and Rice. Her first choice is Chicago but sheâll be enrolling at RPI while she waits to see if sheâs lucky enough to get off their wait list. Sheâs also considering studying in Germany as she can go to engineering school there tuition-free. She likes RPI too but wants to graduate with as little debt as possible.)
@insanedreamer If you look at the fourth page of the financial aid letter uploaded to your daughterâs portal, it says that any awards (whether theyâre need based or merit based) offered to you directly by RPI are renewable all four years and that thereâs no minimum GPA needed to guarantee renewal. However, in order to renew federal awards (Direct Loans, Perkins Loan, Pell Grant, SEOG, and Work-Study) recipients need to have a minimum GPA of around 1.5-2.0. Again, the minimum GPA requirement does NOT apply to any RPI merit or need-based scholarships or grants.
IF you qualify itâs actually good for a 5th year!!
@quarlo Thank you for the info. Great news. I hadnât seen that as Iâm abroad at the moment and my daughter hadnât sent me the full financial aid letter and I guess she hadnât noticed that bit either. She also wrote RPI asking for more aid, and just today received a positive response so she went ahead and enrolled. Sheâs happy and excited to be going there!
Has anyone heard what the acceptance rate was for ED and RD at RPI for the Class of 2019?
I saw a tweet that said 10% acceptance rate for RD on the RPI. It was 36% for the Class of 2018, so Iâd be completely shocked unless they way upped their ED acceptance rate and many more kids applied to RPI than last year.
