Official Sat I Discussion January 2005

Since some think that his is a little bit too generous, and I always like to be on the safe side, I'll give my predictions:
Math: 800,790,770,750,740,720,710,700,690,670
Verbal: 800,800,780,770,750,740,730,710,700,690,690,680

Like he said, I'm not that great at predicting. I'm using the Verbal of what someone else got last time as the basis for my verbal (-7=700). This is probably the harshest curve that this SAT could have.
BTW, on some of the curves from 10 Reals, if you got 7 wrong, you would still get about a 700. Max of 740.

argh. i put insincere: flattery because I thought "insincere flattery won't get you anywhere... just like futile efforts." Guess I was wrong. (But then again, flattery is almost always insincere.)

Oh and also. For the economic resources sentence completion, what did you put? I narrowed it down to rescind and marshal, and I knew rescind didn't make sense, so I put marshal... is that right?

fearful, no you have the answer for the wrong question. It was "astonish:amazement::delight:happiness". At least that's what I got

I am sure I missed a lot, but this is what I got.

For Open Math:
16. 63
17. 5.5
18. 42
19. 125
20. 5
21. 27
22. 3/4
23. 61
24. 3
25. 15

Math - Section 4
(1 to 15)
C C B D A B A B A D B B A C B

Math - Section 7
(1 to 10)
E C B D B C A E B D

I got "astonish:amazement::delight:happiness" too

I put marshal. It was either that or disperse. (If you google "marshal funds" it does seem to be a decently common usage for the word.)

do does the curves work?? i don't get it. this was my first time taking the sat I

I put disperse, but many think that is wrong, and it should be marshal. They both seem kinda right. But I put down insincere:flattery. That seems to work too. Oh well. -8 so far for verbal.

what was the answer to the one about the number of #s dividing into 20 with a remainder of two? I don't quite remember what i put....it was a grid in. was the answer 3, maybe?

i got 4, multiples of 18 (18, 9, 6, 3) all divide into 20 with a remainder of 2. 2 and 1 would divide into 20 so I got 4 as the answer.

How about the one for sat version 1 about the pyramid and how many planes fit the description of having vertex, perpendiculur, and cutting it in half. I put 4.

For teh grid-ins. Does anybody remember the question for 20,21, and 25?
Oh, and 24 isn't 4. That was 3. That was the one with the 2 raised to all the powers right? It was 3 (4-1=3)

Wouldn't a pyramid cut it into 6? I had the square one, but I think a pyramid would be 6

Well 3 divided into 20 with remainded of 2. But wat was the second part of the question.

you're right mekrob, damn i missed that one, stupid mistakes

Someone had doubts earlier about the question with the cards of different values and their sums. the values were 5, 10,15, and 25. The answer was E (20, 30, 40)
20=5+15
30=25+5
40=25+15
The first three are knocked out because they have numbers greater than 50 (remember, only adding two cards)

Pyramid is just 4 triangles lined up vertically connecting at a point with a square base. I think it's four because u can cut the square vertically, horizontally, or in the diagonoals.

hmm. i had that, then erased it .... and changed it at like literally the last second.. same with the analogy on outcast : exile.. i HATE it when i do that. grrrrrrrr...

anyhow, how about those CRs? do you guys remember any other ones? the other threads are all too chaotic... ppl discuss every version.

the curves depend on how hard/easy the test is. If it is easy, then many ppl get high scores, so that if you miss one or two (like most on CC), then you get a 770. But if it's a hard test, then you can miss 2 and still have a 800.

January typically has a lot of the CTY wannabe munchkins taking the test. They're middle schoolers and usually don't score very high. I think this could help the curve...
