How are you guys studying!
lets discuss any tips or vocabulary review

Going for the 2400. Same as usual studying, when I looked at my score review for January, it looks like I only missed a question in vocabulary!!! Thus, I am ordering DirectHits Core and Tough Vocab to see if there is any improvement in the words (Amazon is nice with returns, so I won’t write in it). Other than that, 11 practice tests from Princeton and 12 from McGraw, I do practice tests like a monster, so I think I can get them all done.

So:
- DirectHits Volume 5 Core and Tough
- Princeton Tests
- McGraw Hill Tests (apparently these are good for CR)

Math and Writing are my strong suits (I used to go to KUMON L0L)

What did you get?

@PusatShrade If you’re referring to me, I got a 2370.

Omg why would you need to retake that. The 30 points are virtually trivial.

My SAT tutoring center gives out $1000 to all 2400’s.

^1000$. Nevermind bro go for it then lol.

^^ That’s a good incentive lol!

Yeah, pretty good incentive, its mainly to “reward” the students that bought their prep. lessons.

If you think about it though:
- $789 for a 2 week cram course (I was in 9th grade, I don’t even know why I signed up for a cram course meant for juniors)
- $199 for something called Exam Club - valid for 4 years, can take a practice SAT every weekend (Saturday AND Sunday, you can take 2 a week)

Total Cost is $988 (specifically for me, others may have paid less)

So, total profit of $12 Still, worth it in my perspective.

Definitely worth it.

March SAT is coming up soon. We need to decide on an official thread. This one?

Or <a href=“***March 2014 SAT (US ONLY)*** - SAT Preparation - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/1617265-march-2014-sat-us-only.html

@BioBoy97, how many times have you taken the SATs?

I took it twice in 9th grade with the hopes of acing it. Didn’t happen. My essays sucked.

@BioBoy97 what are the best books that helped you to get 2370?

I have 2 in school tests and a science fair project to go and compete a week before the SAT

Hey guys,

Just responding to questions.

@Holocaust First time taker, 11th grade Junior, January SAT.

@IMTLD1 Here’s a list of books I have:
- Barrons 2400
- DirectHits Core and DirectHits Tough
- Princeton 11 Practice Tests, McGraw Hill 12 practice tests
- Barrons Big Book
- Barrons CR. Wkbk (I used to suck at CR, mid 700’s)
- Blue Book

In addition, the re-sell value of these books is great! I bought em all together on Amazon for about 125 bucks. Selling them to a sophomore at my school for around 110. :D

Is barrons reading good for someone in the mid 600’s?

You don’t need any book besides vocabs book for CR. Just take more tests, find them.

@BioBoy97 thanks, but I meant what are the best, because I live outside US I cant buy every single book I find

Princeton 11 Practice Tests, McGraw Hill 12 practice tests - do not use these! Only use tests written by the college board.

You do realize that after some time, if you really want to practice, you are going to need to buy books that have practice tests in them right? After exhausting almost every real SAT test I’ve seen online, I need other practice lol.

But, unless you finished all the official tests you can find (like me), go ahead and use the real tests you can find. Please don’t go around spreading information that these books are bad; they might not be real Collegeboard tests but the quality of the tests/solutions in the book is very high

@IMTLD1 depends on where your weaknesses are. For vocab, I would just buy the DirectHits Tough Vocab book. Can’t recommend anything else off the top of my head though.

@ BioBoy97 “Please don’t go around spreading information that these books are bad; they might not be real Collegeboard tests but the quality of the tests/solutions in the book is very high”

N, not really especially on Reading Comprehension Questions made by any third-party like Princeton & McGraw. they won’t match the trap answers, the language of the passages not even the difficulty, length or type!

How can you say so after working through a large number of official Collegeboard material. the difference is HUGE!
