almost the exact same question was on a collegeboard released test and the answer was rice
Speculators did take advantage (mainly as workers for rail corporations) but the question i think was asking about republican principles
Did the federal government give loans/grants for the transcontinental railroad?
What did you guys get for the one where the options were like:
King gives the rights to the colonists
Show distinctions between taxes
Only local representatives allowed to tax colonists…
If it was intent, it was land speculation.
I dont think the Republicans intended for land speculation by passing the Homestead Act…but I’m not sure
seriously?! ugh i changed my answer :’(
@CoveredCalls I think the thing I put was that the king did the tax only for revenue. But we may be talking about different questions.
Yeah the one I’m talking about was asking about “contracts” or something.
@TheAtlantic @CoveredCalls is talking about the one about colonial charters, I think. I think I said that it gave the colonists rights which they used to then craft calls for independence or something similar to that.
ok. I said that it structured their governments but I think that was wrong.
Who did you guys say supported popular sovereignity?
For the charter question, I put the answer choice that said something like it defined the relationship/power between the colonies and the mother country? I think it was the one that @TheAtlantic picked.
@Mango920452 Democrats because it would allow slavery to extend above the boundaries. Also because it was proposed partially by Stephen Douglas and set Bleeding Kansas into motion (Lecompton Constitution)
According to Wikipedia, “All colonial charters guaranteed to the colonists the vague rights and privileges of Englishmen, which would later cause trouble during the revolutionary era.” , but it is Wikipedia
Ok, I said whigs b/c I forgot about Douglas. Thanks!
Question about subject tests in general: do scores get automatically sent to colleges/organizations even if you didn’t specify that you wanted to do that?
wait did free soil party not support popular sovereignty? ughhhh think I missed that one
I don’t recall the Whigs ever being that really that up-and-arms about anything except Jackson.
@asappebble I don’t think so. I think they wanted to keep the west exclusively anti-slavery so that white farmers wouldn’t have competition.
