OFFICIAL School of Cinematic Arts 2014 Applicants/Results

cool! just went back and read the forum again, yeah it looks like so far were the only transfers here. definitely glad to have at least one other transfer here! haha

Good luck swatdojo! I’m hoping we hear back by April, but from last year’s forum it seems like transfers may not hear back until June–that would be especially painful. Are you from Cali?

My mom called financial aid yesterday to ask a question regarding the CSS Profile and sending in tax returns to them. The lady was NOT very helpful. Just “yes” or “no” answers. She told my mom that the sooner that we get stuff in the sooner they can work on the FA package. I am NOT interpreting any of that…It’s a drag to have to send in all the paperwork, tax returns etc if one does not get admitted. But, if one gets admitted, then it’s worth the work, right LOLOL. Sorry for the rambling…it’s nerves.

nwfilmstudent - I totally understand. The hours of looking up which forms to send, photocopying the right ones, etc blows.

Especially if you have to use IDOC! I was so glad USC didn’t request it but Northwestern did. I’m not even going to get in but I still had to do it just in case. :/

@wghiller
thanks, good luck to you too! im from texas actually. and i had sent them an e-mail asking about the status of my SCA documents, just to make sure they got there safely and SCA admissions told me:

“We will not begin processing Transfer applications until April. As we begin processing files, we will be updating the document management system.”

so they might have not even opened our applications yet. hah, but who knows! there’s a lot less information out there on the transfer process than for the entering freshmen process. so well have to wait and see what happens!

They originally told me the same thing. I called last week, though, and the writing department informed me that they still hadn’t received my documents so I should re-submit them online. They said since it’s a 4-year program, all writing applicants are evaluated at the same time.

I agree, there definitely is not much information available about the transfer process.

Dream: What is IDOC?

@nwfilmstudent - if you filled out the CSS/Profile some colleges request that you mail your tax information (copies of W2s, etc) through the CollegeBoard’s document system, IDOC. They give you a list of all of the specific forms that you need. I know Northwestern wanted it but USC did not request it. They just emailed and listed which ones needed to be faxed.

dream: ah, got it. when my mom spoke with USC Financial Aid yesterday, they said mail the tax stuff directly to them. It appears that nothing much is happening with undergrad SCA right now. No letters or biggy envelopes are arriving?

Nothing here. :frowning: Last year’s thread shows nothing for two more weeks.

^dream, haha I was just reading that same thread and saw that! Do you still have the “Fall grades” status?

Longest. Month. Ever.

On a somewhat related note… Any Oscar predictions?

I do have the fall grades status.

Benjo, weird that you bring that up because I was TOTALLY just about to post my picks! :)

Haha no way!

I’m betting Avatar will win best picture even though I want Inglourious Basterds to win.

Best Motion Picture of the Year: Inglourious Basterds. I know a lot of people are rooting for Avatar but I think that the Best Motion Picture should be the best in every respect; even fans of Avatar admit that the writing was NOT good.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role: George Clooney (Up in the Air) or Colin Firth (A Single Man). This will probably go to either George Clooney or Jeff Bridges. I haven’t seen Crazy Heart yet (going to tonight) so I can’t really vouch for Jeff but I think George deserves it. However, I also think A Single Man definitely got snubbed this year and Colin’s performance was AMAZING.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role: Carey Mulligan (An Education) or Meryl Streep (Julie & Julia). This will probably go to Meryl because she’s unbeatable but I thought Carey was great in An Education.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role: Christoph Waltz (Inglourious Basterds). He has won Best Supporting Actor at every awards show for a reason. He was so brilliant in IB. His scenes were among my favorite parts of the movie.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role: Mo’Nique (Precious). I thought Vera Farmiga was also really good but Mo’Nique will definitely win this. Precious was good but I thought it was a little bit contrived. Her role really made the movie work, I don’t think I would have been convinced otherwise.

Best Achievement in Directing: Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker). I hadn’t seen The Hurt Locker until last weekend so for a long time I was rooting for Quentin Tarantino or Jason Reitman, but it completely blew me away. I do not believe that James Cameron deserves this award.

Best Writing, Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen: Inglourious Basterds or A Serious Man. All of Quentin Tarantino’s writing is good and it’s about time he got this award. I really liked The Coens’ script as well but I think Q’s was slightly better.

Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material Previously Produced or Published: An Education or In the Loop or Up in the Air. These three all really stood out to me when I saw them. In the Loop was HILARIOUS but Up in the Air will probably win.

Best Achievement in Cinematography: Inglourious Basterds. That scene between Shoshana and the Nazi in the projection room blew me away.

Best Achievement in Editing: Inglourious Basterds.

Best Achievement in Art Direction: Sherlock Holmes.

Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures, Original Score: Up (Michael Giacchino).

Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures, Original Song: Crazy Heart (“The Weary Kind”).

Best Achievement in Sound Mixing: Star Trek. The first thing I thought about when I got out of the theater was how amazing the sound mixing/editing was.

Best Achievement in Sound Editing: Star Trek. See above.

Best Achievement in Visual Effects: Star Trek.

Best Animated Feature Film of the Year: Fantastic Mr. Fox or Up. It’s hard to choose between these two. On one hand, the style that they used for Fantastic Mr. Fox was awesome. As an overall movie, though, I liked Up better. I guess it depends on how you interpret the name of the award, right?

I agree with pretty much all of that, except I think best visual effects should go to Avatar. It was just beautiful. And yeah, the writing sucked. coughPocahontascough

@Dream

Best Picture- I want IB to win, too, but I think it comes down to The Hurt Locker(haven’t seen it yet) or Avatar. I don’t see any other films in the race. Hopefully it’s Hurt Locker…even though I haven’t seen it yet, I really don’t want Avatar to win best picture.

Best Performance(Actor)- Jeff Bridges will win this award, guaranteed :)

Best Performance(Actress)- Mo’Nique wins this one, I agree. Best Actress & Best Supporting Actor are virtually locked in already.

Supporting Actor- Probably the biggest lock of the Oscars. Christoph Waltz takes home the little man and is definitely deserving. What a performance!

Best Original Screenplay- Once again, I hope IB gets the nod here!

Best Adapated Screenplay- Some good nominees here, but I agree that Up in the Air wins this award.

The OSCARS have become such hype…It is SOOOO “political.” I hope Cameron’s ex beats him out. He is such a JERK!..(Sorry). I think JB will win over GC. Streep probably beats out Sandra B. Avatar will probably beat out Locker, but shouldn’t. I luved “Up” didn’t see Mr. Fox. I agree on Mo’N getting supporting. And CW for supporting actor.

PS: Re: fall grades: I got a letter asking for those and sent them in. However, I recall on the general admission website something saying that to plan on sending them blah, blah, blah. It wasn’t specific to me, just general thing, so I was planning to send them in regardless. My “application status” link still can not be clicked open. “They” told me it will be like that until SCA makes a decision??? Anyone ever heard of that? Not sure how to interpret that…Any ideas? (:0)

If The Hurt Locker doesn’t win Best Picture, I will raise hell.
