@gatsbydies I doubt I can have much fun even without retaking the SAT. I have 5 AP exams and 3 subject tests coming up. Maybe I should drop one of the subject test since I already have math lvl 2.
I applied to TASP, Clark Scholars, SIMR, SSP, and going to apply to HSHSP, First Bytes(CS camp, not well-known), UTMB intern, and SAMS.

sigh summer programs are so confusing and subjective. Had near-perfect stats + a major award and got rejected from SSP+Clark+TASP last year (least I made it past round 1 in TASP) so I ended up doing some volunteering. that hurt lol

gl with your programs

^ Thanks. If all else fails Iām going to do research intern at local university. Hope not, though.

@gatsbydies By the way, care to share your stats? I donāt have near-perfect stats or any major awards and my essays are not phenomenal. Maybe I should prepare myself for 8 rejection letters, lol.

@fairyfantasy Itās ok. We all feel that way right now. The fear is like twisting our stomachs.

I donāt really want to share exact stats as to be more anonymous, but it does include perfect SATs as well as multiple 5s on AP (PSAT was sort of failed though). As well as 1/2 major awards (depends on how you define major)

deferredfromcaltech gg so obviously my essays or recs suck

and also donāt think you have no chance since I have literally 0 bio experience whatsoever. zero. nada. not even AP bio, just AP chem. (just honors bio @my school) but personally I really like bio and want to pursue it more than what Iām good at soooo ya. My awards are non-bio relatedā¦

So Iām expecting a lot of rejections too. (along with college rejections lul)

^ Wow, your stats sound pretty awesome. And I havenāt taken AP Bio, either. I took AP Chem and AP Physics this year to better explore my 2 interests: pre-med and engineering.
I am pretty sure I am rejected from Clark Scholars since my SAT score is not up to their average and my essays sucked. TASP probably rejected, too, since I am still waiting for results, which are supposed to come in this week. It would be really sad if I donāt even make the first cut.

^it wouldnāt be sad. They take something like 150/1400 first round, so thatās already like a 11% rate. I basically partied when I made it, then felt sad after round 2 lol

there are 2 cuts? I did not know that lol. so only half the people make it past the second cut?

mhm. Cut #2 involves an interview, rec, and a transcript. Iām pretty sure they werenāt fond of my STEM-engulfed transcript, and I read my counselorās rec only a few weeks ago (for scholarship apps). Itās pretty generic, bland, and all it does is talk about my awards, not character. And although interview was 2 hours long, it couldāve gone better.

Soooo yeah. Ended up with community service that was actually an amazing experience that was the subject for my Common App essay. So donāt be sad if you get rejected everywhere - tbh I think my volunteer experience was more valuable than even TASP.

Anyway back to SIMR - anyone know when we hear back?

Mid April I think

On the application I believe it said before April 4th fingers crossed

Two weeks until the decision! Iām so nervousāone of my friends that I met last summer got into another medical internship at Stanford. Itāll be so cool if I can meet him there.

Are you all applying for any other programs?

Hi everyone, Iām new to CollegeConfidential. I applied to SIMR too. Has anyone heard back yet? Or does everyone hear back on April 4th?

@Yonkers12 I think everyone will hear back around April 4!
in the meantime, good luck to you all. Iām pretty nervous for the results haha

A friend of mine (got into Stanford early this year) went to SIMR last year and told me there were no second cuts for him at all - he just received a call that said he got in. Does anyone have a source on the whole 2 cuts thing?

I think the two cuts reference was referring to TASP, another summer program (even though it was in this thread).

So, is there a game we can all play on this thread to pass the anxiety?

anyone wanna post stats?
I have 3.98 uw gpa, 4.5 weighted 11 APs by end of junior
36 ACT all sections, 800 in math ii and chemistry
couple small regional awards, captain of science bowl, academic team, science olympiad, AIME qualifer,
500+ hours of volunteer service
I think my essay for SIMR was relatively good. I got rejected from Simonās but I got into Garcia, but I think my essay for Garcia was much better than that for Simonās so that might be why

My bio teacher has just informed me that he wrote a recommendation letter for āHarvardā instead of āStanfordāā¦ Ugh this will probably really hurt my chances, but whatās done is done so I can just hope that the admissions wouldnāt mind so much.

SIMR will be such a rewarding experience if I can get in! Meanwhile, we still have a whole week to go until the results come outā¦
