I know what you mean pitabread78… it engulfs the mind smh

have yall told other people that youve applied? the top people at my school just dont tell each other where theyre applying…i dont really know why but its just not common knowledge

My school is generally pretty open about who’s applying where. I’m the only one applying stanford SCEA tho.

Only a friend of mine and I decided to apply EA and we both applied to Stanford

i think the problem is the top 20 people in my class are (on paper) identical. we all have weighted gpa’s within .01 of each other. and we’re just really competitive people. only the top 3 people have revealed where they’re applying early and they’re all applying to SCEA Yale. learning of this may have been the funniest thing I have ever heard. but rumor has it there is another kid applying to stanford early and his gpa is .003 higher than mine. does this mean they’ll take him over me?

Most kids at my school plan on going to UC’s. Only a couple of us are well-rounded enough to get in to major privates. The people ranked top 3 aren’t applying to any privates… one might be applying to USC though

There were 22 SCEA applicants to Stanford from my school this year :o

My school’s a big, big feeder to Stanford so there are quite a few SCEA among us… not sure how many. Last year it was 25+, but it’s quite a bit fewer this year (thank goodness!) People are pretty secretive, so I’m not sure how many or how good they are. Only sure of two others besides me, and both are competitive.

Mine isn’t a feeder my any means. Usually 1-3 get in and around 1 ends up matriculting out of a class of about 350. A lot of people just want to try or something. Most of the SCEA applicants will end up going to Cal.

My school is small (about 75 people) and we all know each other really well. It would be weird if we didn’t tell people where we were applying. That said, only one other person applied SCEA. The good thing is, no one else knows what day the results come out. That means that unless word gets out (from my friends), I probably won’t get asked anything until at least the 15th. Usually no one gets into Stanford from my school (that said, the people who apply usually aren’t the best applicants), but last year two girls I know got in.

pitabread78, you shouldn’t be worrying about .003 GPA points, your GPA isn’t the only thing that will get you into Stanford. On paper, if you and he are identical, then it’s probably your essays above all that will distinguish you. Stanford values unique individuals, not just perfect grades, scores, and ECs

my school sends precisely one kid to an ivy every year (but never Princeton) but no one has ever gotten into Stanford…that means we’re due right?

So… what music do you guys listen to?

“Usually no one gets into Stanford from my school (that said, the people who apply usually aren’t the best applicants).”

@coffeeandtea, I know exactly how that feels. I go to a medium to somewhat large sized public school (with just over 1700 students). The majority of people either do not go to college or go to the local community college, and almost all of the rest are set for one of our state flagship universities.

Despite having a relatively constant size of 1700 students, my school has only sent one student to Stanford and one to Brown in the last decade (and none to any other Ivies). This year, my best friend and I are both applying SCEA to Stanford, so it will be interesting to see if one or both of us can do well in the process.

Frankly, I am still incredibly glad that I’ve gone to the school I’ve gone to. It doesn’t give you things or guide you through what you need to do to stand out in the admissions process – rather, as a previous poster noted of public schools, it has taught me how to fight for things and has allowed me to find my own passions. I mean, at my school, there’s quite literally a total of only 5 clubs, and less than 10% of the students actually participate in a club. In other words, I can’t just depend on my school to provide me out-of-classroom activities (though, to be fair, it has provided some awesome co-curricular activities). Because I haven’t only been dependent on activities through my school to fill my time, I’ve been able to discover and get deeply involved in an outside passion that I would not have found had I been in private or more competitive public school. Thus, my school was the best possible place for me.

On another and completely unrelated note to anything else on this thread, how do I make text boxes on CC?

When are decisions coming out? Are they going to be delayed because of the hurricane?

Yeah, I mean, my school is actually pretty good, and we send quite a few people to Brown (specifically) and other Ivies every year. For some reason though, the only people who used to apply to Stanford were the ones who really weren’t Stanford material. Last year and this year this hasn’t been the case.

guys 13 days 34 min and 30 sec

^Don’t say that we’re hoping for this friday!! I neeeeeeed it to be this friday…

i can guarantee you it wont be this friday. (im actually an admissions counselor)

but really, i think itll be the 14th

I’m terrified I’m going to have a test on Friday… from 2:00 to 2:45 PST… I can’t take a test 15 minutes before decisions. It just can’t happen. If it does, I’m going to try and take it earlier in the day, so at least it isn’t THAT close.
