Official Stanford SCEA 2017 Applicants' Discussion Thread

[Ivy League Admission Statistics for Class of 2016 - Hernandez College Consulting, Inc. and Ivy League Admission Help](http://www.hernandezcollegeconsulting.com/ivy-league-admissions-statistics/)

Okay it is definitely this year’s numbers, assuming the above link’s data is correct- an it looks pretty reliable.

So they probably decided ahead of time they would accept “about 750” and they had already counted the number who applied by nov. 9th. That makes sense.

Means nothing for admissions results release, though, as it doesn’t mean they evaluated everyone and know WHO is getting those spots. Right?

Or we’re getting them Friday, guess we’ll see.

I’m applying for Computer Science and I’ll interject some conjecture about the FAQ page ([Restrictive Early Action FAQs : Stanford University](<a href=“Page Not Found : Stanford University”>FAQs : Stanford University)).

The date last updated is likely automated and not human edited. Here’s my analysis.

The HTML for that particular section is as follows:

<!-- #BeginLibraryItem “/Library/last_update.lbi” –>

Last update:
<!-- #BeginDate format:Am1a –>November 9, 2012 8:41 AM<!-- #EndDate –>

First, the <!-- blahblabh –> is a comment , which usually explains a section of code or serves as a bookmark of sorts. The comments around the date have #BeginDate and #EndDate, which would probably be used if the date was generated an inserted with other code, rather than human edited. This often because code can be rather confusing and the comment is a way of visually seeing where the output will be.

Looking through the rest of the source code, the site appears to be made with Adobe Dreamweaver. The comment with “#BeginLibraryItem “/Library/last_update.lbi”” shows the location of a Dreamweaver library item, which is a link to an external file with more code in it. The comment likely shows the place where the code was, but since the code only outputs the date, the comment is all that remains. Since library items can be referenced by multiple files, this provides more evidence that they have some standardized code for determining the last updated date.

Sorry if that was confusing, I can explain more if someone wants, but this is really a moot point.

Edit: It is entirely plausible for them to have the numbers up by November 9th and that they wrote it in a way that they wouldn’t have to change it later, which is my overall point.

I assume they would know who and the updated date is just a glitch. Doesn’t the number they accept early really vary depending on the strength of the applicants?

I’m fairly certain 750 is Stanford’s quota for how many students they will accept this year.

Approximately 6100 applied, and approximately 750 will be accepted.

@GlobalDolphin

So I hoped, but it seems they’ll just jack up deferrals if need be? This is assuming the date generated is accurate.

@PaePenguin ahh nice post, I shouldve thought of looking at the source

@ globalDolphin well the number of early admitted students hasnt really changed over the years, it is always 750 +/- 5-7 or something. You are right that it depends on the strength on the applicants but there are still really limited spots in the class as a whole, so imagine if they admitted all the 2000 they intended to admit that year from the early applicant pool (which honestly, would probably be very easy since soooo many outstanding people, much like us :D, apply!) and then how would you sort out those who applied RD? Soooo the number is usually around 750

@deregon1594 Thanks, this is my way of de-stressing about this whole thing. :p

So… we still have no idea.

Alright Stanford you clever ■■■■■■■! Setting up false trails to distract us while you scheme! It seems you have defeated the best minds in the world from getting through your iron walls of secrecy!

So please, you win, I hope your ego is satisfied. Give us the ****ing results.

sigh. I just wish we could fast-forward time.

I realllllllyyy hope its this Friday

Let’s stop begging the question (we are all gonna be hospitalized from hypertension by the time friday rolls around) and talk about…um…about… other random stuff!
My random questions/comments:

  1. @Seungyoonfan: does your “seung yoon” refer to 강승윤? <— that is a guy who competed in the korean version of american idol a couple years ago, for those of you wondering.
2.@adodie: It just so happens that my little brother refers to me as “dodie.” So time I see “adodie,” I chuckle. Now all my friends think that I lost it or something because I am staring at the computer screen with a “unmistakeably ****” smile.

Okay, I like your idea of distractions…

Any other bleach fans in the house? :D

I’m done with all my other apps! Yay! Most people in my grade aren’t, though, so I’m going to bake our college counseling department a big chocolate cake that says “Die Apps Die” on it and bring it in.

deregon, if you are talking about the manga/anime bleach… Sadly, I stopped reading after ichigo lost his shi-something powers X(
Harborceal, I would hate to be your friend atm.lol

hahaha Eucliiris, yeah, I have a few friends who are done as well but those who aren’t… well, let’s just say I’m pretty quiet around them
and our CC department seriously deserves that cake!

awwww rllyy? Meh, I don’t blame you, the whole Fullbring arc and forwards isn’t as good as the original aizen plot, even though I have to say the art-work is probably better.

Hey All,

I’m new to this, but I couldn’t resist from posting, the tension is killing me.
I don’t think this piece of information will help us, but whether they release on the 14th or the 7th, Stanford is done with our admission decision. Right now they are just working on financial aid calculations and stuff.

I think Columbia is a good argument for the 7th, regardless of whether the FAQ update means anything or not.

I am so sorry that I brought this date stuff up. I have ruined so many people’s weeks! It would have just been a nice (or horrible) surprise, but I had to ruin it lololol.

I still think 7th - Columbia, Thanksgiving, etc. etc.

Also, I CAN’T BEAR TO THINK IT WILL TAKE ANY LONGER OR I MIGHT DIE.

Even if they had automated that to update today, and had programmed it on the 9th, November 9th was after the Hurricane Sandy delay. Therefore, it seems that Stanford saw no reason that Sandy would make it impossible for them to have decisions out by this Friday (perhaps they were working on other regions or those that did submit on time or something from November 1-7?ish) and therefore under the precedent of past years, I want to go with 99-1 that it’ll be this Friday.

If Stanford didn’t want that page to be an indicator of when they’d be done, they would probably have written “We received 6100 and will accept about 750.”

AHHHHH I’M SHAKING RIGHT NOW GUYS I CAN’T HANDLE IT
