wildcat - No; not that they openly state, at least.

When folks who submitted the Arts Supplement got your confirmation of what has and has not been received, did the list actually mention the Arts Supplement anywhere? In other words, do you have any confirmation (aside from maybe a FedEx tracking notice) that they have gotten it?

“DO NOT CALL or EMAIL to confirm receipt of optional materials not required for admission. These materials are not tracked in our system.”

From the email Stanford sent out.

Hey everyone, also doing early action here. Great to meet you all and hopefully we’ll all make it in (though I’m feeling really terrible about my chances). Stanford’s also my dream school, but my SAT II’s and GPA are weaker than I’d like.
I’m a little curious, though, as to the importance of the Art Supplement. I wanted to submit something but I hadn’t played my instrument in far too long (I moved schools to a state math and science academy, which doesn’t really have a music program). Do faculty really have a chance of pulling borderline students in? I guess it’s a little too late for it anyways, but I was just wondering.

What I heard is that your arts supplement is sent to the corresponding art department to get judged. I am not sure, but I also read somewhere that the grading scale is from 1 to 5, 5 being extremely difficult to get. Apparently, if you get a 5, it does help your application “considerably.” <— not sure what “considerably” means either.

^^
I just found this a minute ago:
“I know that at Stanford, at least until 2 or so years ago, the auditions were rated on 1-6 scale by the faculty. Those who scored 1-3 were “recommended”. Of course, this did not guarantee admission. But it moved your file from a general pile of thousands into a much smaller pile of files of students whom someone in the university actually wants. That is a HUGE leg up at a highly selective school.”

That was 2009, but it seems at least that my 1 to 5 scale is totally off. ;)

question for the arts supplement: are you guys doing a sampling of you in a recital? I dance, but I’d rather submit something straight from my studio so that I can redo it if need be…

also, 2 letters of eval= letters of rec from teachers, right?

Only one teacher recommendation for arts supplement is required.
I borrowed a r-05 recorder and recorded at my home.

thanks for responding eucliiris! that’s what I thought. I have like three teachers so I’m still trying to decide which one to ask and how to do all of this haha

is your app in?! that must be such a load off!

I am not sure about the “that must be a load off” thing. As soon as you submit your app, you get paranoid about whether Stanford got everything, especially the arts sup because Stanford doesn’t allow you to check whether or not it is successfully processing it…lol
Anyway, you must be a RA if you still haven’t turned your forms in?

yeah, I am!

well, at least you know all your stuff is done! I understand how that could be troubling, though. No worries–*I’m sure it’ll be fine as long as it’s postmarked!

I wrote to the admissions office about processing the arts supplement, here’s what they replied:

To check receipt of your Art Supplement, please send an e-mail to aepedicord@stanford.edu after October 22.

But it only says receipt, which may or may not have mean the same as processed.

Eep! Live auditions tomorrow! Break a leg to all!

How did the auditions go everyone?

^^^^Im very curious as well. Details about the procedure would be helpful too.

Question: In the past, decisions usually come out the Friday before the 15th. This year the 15th is a Saturday. Do you think we’ll end up having to wait until the 14th, or will we likely receive our decisions earlier than that?

^^^ If you look at last year’s REA 2016 thread, as they got closer to Dec. 15, “rumors” circulated about when the decisions will be released. I am guessing we will have “rumors” this year too. Right now, I can’t even guess, though I am hoping for Dec. 7.

WHERE ARE THE AUDITIONERS?
I am dying of curiosity! It’s about to kill me-cat!

My theater audition went really well! There were only nine of us - a few from Texas, Washington, and even one from NYC! Two CA kids as well. It was a two-hour thing… we warmed up together, talked a little about where we’re from, and then went up one by one and performed our contemp and our Shakespeare pieces. Then, the director gave a few suggestions and notes and we tried different parts of the pieces… workshopping them. Everyone was really great - the caliber was quite high. The director gave a lot of positive feedback and she really liked all of us. At the end, she said that she would “love to see us all at Stanford” later… so hopefully that means we’ll get high recommendations! It was a very positive group vibe and we were all very supportive.

So, yeah! I’m encouraged by the fact that there were only 9 theater live auditions. Hopefully that will help us stand out!

@harborceal - So glad to hear you had a great audition experience!

Does the Arts Supplement classify as material they don’t track, since they accept the Arts Supplement from the Common Ap? I’d assumed that once you opt to submit the Arts Supplement it becomes an official part of your application, and since kids go to a lot of work to prepare the Supplement it seems reasonable to want to know that they received and processed it. No?
