I applied to the Stony Brook Program. Is it known to accept any applicants from states other than NY?

I was wondering if anyone got any invites to NJMS yet? Not sure if NJIT sent them already because it was the first to do undergrad interviews. I did not apply to the Stony Brook Program but most probably not. I would think that Stony Brook would favor in state applicants than OOS applicants.

@CAJ2014, NJIT sent off the apps already but NJMS will not be sending acceptance letters until March… it’s a long wait.

Thanks GreenSage! How do we know if we are selected for interviews with the medical school?

@TheBombingRange- I’m applying to both. Haven’t finished my Stonybrook app yet though

@Midhelper- Ditto! You guys all rock and are super qualified and it’s amazing being able to come together and support each other through this process. Good luck to everyone! :D

I don’t know of anybody in the program from OOS but that could just be because not many OOS apply. They do not have any preference for residence, though, so definitely apply! Yeah NJMS invites come early February for an interview in early March, notification by snail mail.

@CAJ2014, yeah NJMS interviews are around February. Once you get the interview, notifications come pretty fast.

GreenSage

Were you notified by NJIT that your app was forwarded to NJMS?

Just by chance we were talking with the NJIT folk and they said they were forwarding applications that day - it was wed dec 18. I don’t think anyone is notified.

Yeah, people aren’t notified whether or not their app is forwarded. But when you went to the honors college interview, at the end of the interview, your interviewer might have been like “okay so i’ll forward your application to NJMS”… I know Katia Passerinni (?) told students that way the end of the interview. I’m not sure if the other lady did.

For me I had a guy. He didn’t tell me anything. Can we call the honors college and ask if it has been forwarded?

Yeah, I think that’s a good idea! It’s better than waiting two months without any sort of contact.

Anyone here applying for Brown PLME?

I am. Is the alumni interview for PLME or just regular undergrad?

@MedicalBoy, the PLME alumni interview, like most alumni interviews, does not carry any weight, so relax and enjoy it. It is more for providing you with the opportunity to ask questions about the college.

@MedicalBoy- I was under the assumption that the Brown Alumni interview is not related at all to PLME. I had a Rice alumni interview and he didn’t even know what the program with Baylor was. But Brown might be different!!

@starlight27, you are correct about Alumni interview. My daughter had the Brown alumni interview and she applied to the PLME. Although she was interviewed by a third year medical student doing a DO degree, after her UG at Brown. The discussion was very general and of doubtful significance to admissions.

The interview as far as I know has no tie to PLME. Brown is one of those rare schools making the MD admission decision based off of BS admission and supplement (just one essay?). There is no interview.

@MedicalBoy- A lady named Donna Sessoms was whom I talked to. She mentioned that my application was forwarded to NJMS.

Alumni interviews are something that would not do you any good if you attend and do well, but may harm you if you do not attend or you do badly!
