***Official Thread for 2014 BSMD applicants***

@tamtiger, the Union notification was by email. Not sure about the other two since last year my daughter only applied to RPI and she was invited for interview. So, not sure how RPI handles rejections.

@IMGDAD sorry to hear about Union/AMC. This whole thing is just such a roller coaster ride and we are all emotionally involved. Even though we have never met I feel this bond and excitement with all those applying. It was the same 2 yrs ago with D. One minute we would be so elated we couldn’t breathe and then the next minute we would be, “Who are we kidding? The chances are so low.” and we would come crashing down etc etc etc so I know exactly how you are feeling right now. But you have the DO under the belt already and that is sooo exciting. My S is also applying to a DO program but I am not sure if he will get his essays done on time. I wish your S luck on the other interviews.

@MIdhelper, thank you. Which DO program is your son planning to apply to? The one at Nova Southeastern is supposed to be very good. My son applied and got invited to put in the DO application, but he withdrew because he prefers to go to the Northeast.

IMGDAD - He seems to have a good set of interviews coming up. I wouldn’t worry so much about Union.

@Midhelper, I tried to respond to your private message and I got an error “Private messaging is enabled only for members who have 15 or more posts”. So, I am not sure if you got my response.

@texaspg, thank you. Knowing my son’s work ethics and the lack of academic stamina, I personally think that the BS/DO program might work best for him. We will see if he picks that, even if he is offered a BS/MD program!

@saimedical -got the email! Thank you so much. Good luck to you guys too!

I’m pretty confident about Siena but I can definitely feel the rejection coming from RPI.
I still have heard absolutely nothing from SBU (what the heckkkkkkkk)

Also, does anyone know/is applying to the Shepherd/WVU 8 year bs/md program? It doesn’t seem to be well known (I only heard about it through someone in the program). But everyone is telling me WVU school of medicine is really great.

Just a word of warning. All the applicants to the combined programs are smart and among the top students in school. Read carefully before you apply or commit to what program you are actually applying to. Some of the programs are specifically intended to train physicians for rural health or primary care and so the curriculum may be different. Unless you are content with being a rural generalist or primary care physician, you may be better of pursuing other options than to go into such a BS/MD program.

I just wanted to say THANK YOU to all who have helped and contributed to our journey through these applications. So many of you have helped in unexpected ways through this process instead of seeing each other as competitors. I wish positive and happy results for all of you - you are wonderful people!

@midhelper that’s so cute, I agree haha :)

@IMGDad
I am sorry to hear about your son’s result from Union but he should be proud of the interviews he has lined up. Through scavenging over the last years thread it seems that everything is random seeming and some are unexpected so I guess you never know what happens. Good luck to your son though and I can definitely see him getting into atleast one of the programs! He seems very qualified as he already has the DO program under his belt.

Congrats to everyone else who recieved word about their interviews and/or medical school supplement forwarding. For whoever doesn’t get one, there are plenty of other programs and these programs are a crapshoot anyways but I am sure you will end up where you love!

I am here with a long wait for any of my 3 BS/MD notifications concerning my status haha. But I am not expecting much anyways.

@matrixsurgeon, thank you for your kind words. Good luck to you.

What are the essay prompts for Albany Medical college Supplemental App - Leadership in Medicine. (union/amc program)?

@Greensage. Congrats on receiving union/amc supplemental app. What is the 1500 character essay prompt?

@Greensage. I have Ursinus interview in Jan also.

@shanny101, congrats! Did Ursinus ask you to submit the drexel supplement yet? I’m curious because they haven’t requested it from me and i’m wondering why they’d do the interview before hand.

For everyone who were debating about the interview date for Drexel, here is a copy of the email Jonathan Squire (Rosemont) sent to my son:

We would love to have you on campus in late January. The interviews at Drexel College of Medicine are actually being held on February 1st. You will know in mid-January if you have been selected for an interview. If you are selected for the interview it would be really important that you come visit Rosemont and meet with me beforehand. In the time being though I can have a phone interview with you in early January so we can discuss the program. Please let me know what works best for you. Also if there is anything else that you need please let me know. Have a happy holiday!

Greensage- I did not get the supplemental app from Ursinus yet. Did you see my early posting regarding the Union/AMC supplemental essay? I received the email from AMC with the link to the application yesterday. I am not able to open the application. Deadline is Jan 3rd. I can only call them on Monday. If I know what the essay prompts are, I can work on them meanwhile.

I’m curious, anybody applying to Stony Brook or Brooklyn College?
