I agree with Mr Informed. I think what Drexel is doing may look bad. 611 forwarded for less than 100 interviews. But these odds are still better than traditional route.
We all know how unpredictable the med school’s selections can be.

The nice lady at Drexel said that she still can’t figure out clearly from year to year how the med school makes their selection and she has been surprised about some of the acceptances, well good thing she didn’t screen them out. She did mention that the app fee is to weed out those who are not serious.

Look at it this way- I would rather have my app forwarded to the med school and have the med school reject me than the UG institution prematurely eliminate me.

@Midhelper, that is what I meant by playing with the emotion of the students and the parents. As I posted earlier, even knowing all these, I would still want my son to submit the supplemental if he is invited to do so. So, of course, I would also rather have his app forward to the med school and then be rejected by the med school than for the UG school to prematurely eliminate him.

anyone know how many kids got the Albany medical interview?? Does albany have separate seats depending on the UG school? Like does Albany have 90 seats or whatever for all the 4 programs( or however many they have) or is it allocated per college??

More specifically, im asking about the RPI / albany

approx 20 seats allocated for RPI and I thought it was the same for each of Union and Siena. However, less than that actually matriculate to Albany - not all accept the offered slots and go somewhere else and some leave the program and some drop out of the program (usually orgo is the killer)

@texaspg - I think the link says up to 50 get accepted. My guess (in response to actsat2400’s Q) is that about 200 kids get interviews from all three combined UG institutions. This is just a guess; I don’t have any facts to support it.

there’s 80 kids for the albany rpi/interview i think, idk . This is what it says for the acceptance letter for the interview. I dont know if this is 80 for all the interviews incuding RPI and union, or just RPI

“From January through March, approximately 80 applicants will be interviewed for this program.”

@texaspg you will only interview once at Albany for both RPI and Union. There was another person there 2 yrs ago when my D was interviewing and he had gotten the interview invite through both schools but got one interview for both. They ask you about your thoughts on the two programs and which one you would rather do. If accepted not sure if you choose or they choose for you but I think it can go either way depending on your fit for either of the programs.

@texas - Siena interview is different and the qualifications they look for are considerably different (experience in humanitarian …)
The RPI & Union ones they combine.

I wonder though what happens if you are forwarded by both and you already got called for one interview - I think by the time you get to your interview they would have evaluated both files. We’re nit picking it now.

I am wondering mainly about AMC interview since that is the only one that matters in the end (many on this thread won’t attend any of the schools if AMC does not come through and so Siena or RPI or Union do will be irrelevant for them).

So are we saying Siena/AMC will always have an interview irrespective of whether they have an interview for RPI/AMC or Union/AMC?

I have no stake for any of the schools. It is important to get the points out there so people understand what might happen if they applied to all the schools.

Since the undergrads are all privates, it is a trade off on the finances. Someone I know was given 20k scholarship at Union last year but the tab was still close to 40k without FA. Chose to take a full tuition ride at Temple instead since AMC did not come through. I suspect most people applying for BS/MD have the stats to get tuition waivers at many schools around the country and may choose to spend the money for the MD program.

Well said, Texaspg. I agree fully. I feel that it is worth going to an UG school, if not admitted to the combined program, only if the school offers some forms of scholarship/FA, unless the UG is one of the top schools or the ivies. The rest of the other schools are probably about the same and will prepare you well for Med School applications, and it is probably better to save up the money for med schools, if possible.
