***Official Thread for 2015 BSMD applicants***

Anybody apply to NEOMED for their later deadline (not the EA or early one) and hear back from them yet?

I am not sure where you are getting that from.

Boston U undergrad is ranked #42 and medical school is ranked #32.

Siena is ranked #113 in LACs and Albert Einstein does not seem ranked.

@veritas13 wat r ur stats? Siena i think is hard cuz of the GREAT service focus but BU is ranked high and overall is competitive. At the end of the day, if you get into at least ONE program, u are talented! And if you donā€™t, you are talented too! These programs i think are just so odd and idk wat they look for.

i feel like everybody has qualified stats to become a physician

ik someone with a 29 ACT who got into gwu and then there are people with a 2360 SAT who get in ā€¦

@texaspgā€Œ

Medical school ranking is not necessarily an indication of how difficult entrance into the BSMD program is. For example, as weā€™ve already established, the EMSAP program is extremely difficult to get into for OOS students and yet University of Alabama is ranked #43 in research. In fact, if you look at the US News ranking of medical schools for research the first BSMD school to appear is Washington University in St. Louis at number 6. However, when you think of the most difficult programs to get into, you would probably say HPME or PLME.

Also, I canā€™t find the exact numbers right now but Siena accepts less than 15 students each year and BU accepts somewhere between 20 and 25 students I believe. At least numbers-wise, it seems easier to get into BU. More people on this thread have gotten interviews to BU than Siena though I concede that the acceptance percentage after the interview phase between the programs might not be the same (I.e. BU interviews more but rejects more).

@Veritas13ā€Œ
Congrats! You heard back from Siena through snail mail?? What are your stats I know, Iā€™m being picky about this but, it will help me know moreā€¦ Any response is appreciated :smiley:

I canā€™t start disputing so much of misdirected analysis so I am not even going to try.

Suffice it to say, in state bias public school programs and a combination of private school programs are not exactly comparable.

Wash U is in fact much harder to get into than all the schools you name.

@chihuahua1ā€Œ @lifeishardā€Œ

Yeah, I heard back from Siena through snail mail. Iā€™m not sure how much my stats will help you, considering that Iā€™ve been declined interviews at three other BSMD schools (counting BU in there) but here you go:

  • 2350+ SAT, near perfect or perfect SAT 2s in bio, math 2, US History, and Chem
  • In the top 5 students of a graduating class of around 500ish
  • perfect scores in 6 AP exams
  • research, shadowing, volunteer

Nothing huge like Intel or anything :slight_smile:

@texaspgā€Œ
Honestly there really isnā€™t a way to tell which schools are easier or harder to get into. Like you said, instate bias can play a role in public programs and like another poster pointed out, Siena looks for volunteering which might make it easier for some applicants but not for others. Thatā€™s why I wrote that BU was the ā€œeasierā€ program to get into because it seems easier to me, might not be easier for others.

@ā€Œveritas13
Your stats are very strong but how are you financially? BU is notorious for not giving any scholarships to combined admits (even those that are given to regular admits with comparable apps) and they are counting on many full pays for this program.

PLME is very much dependent on first getting into Brown and they are trying to lock in their own students to be a majority of the medical school population. They in fact require students to reapply if they try to apply outside of Brown.

HPME is a hard program to get into but has an easier moving on requirements than most BS/MD programs.

Wash U has only 10 seats but the hardest moving to med school requirements of any school in the nation. It requires a 3.8 GPA in one of toughest schools to manage that and a 36 (at least old score). They also seem very picky in accepting or interviewing students. I know of someone who got almost a full tuition scholarship but didnā€™t get an interview. So many donā€™t bother applying for the combined program because if one can maintain a 3.8 and 36 at WashU, they will probably get into medical school anyway, usually highly ranked ones.

Out of curiosity, did any of you guys check that you would be applying for financial aid on your common app? I did.

My Daughter got a official rejection letter from Siena in the snail mail. She has an interview with SBU/GW interview at SBU on Jan 31st. Appreciate any helpful information about the interview. Thanks.

I got a rejection letter from Siena in snail mail too. I did get an interview from PennState/TJ(Sidney Kimmel Medical College) for Feb 2nd week. Anybody have any idea how may get interviewed and how many get selected for this program? I appreciate any tips for the interview too.

@mangoes9 Does UTSA-FAME send letters or emails? I heard usually they finish interviews before end of the month and by around Jan 14th interview invites are sent.

@rupa1967 Is this an official info from UTSA-FAME. Also is it snail-mail?

BU is not done with sending out interview notifications. Just spoke to them, they are sending them out on a rolling basis and will continue sending them out until end of February. Donā€™t lose hope!!

Has anyone who completed the supplements for Union & RPI gotten an interview with Albany Med?

@peanut7ā€Œ I havenā€™t from union

So far interviews from UMiami, Penn State, UMKC and VCUā€¦ Rejected from UCinn pre-interview.

@in2llect Did you apply to UMKC and VCU early decision or regular decision? thanks
