***OFFICIAL THREAD TO REPORT PROBLEMS OR MAKE COMMENTS ABOUT NEW CC SITE

Thanks, ML! It seems both are there and staying at the top.

I wonder if our requests are being ignored because only the parents are complaining about the changes to the format. :-@ I don’t see any HS students posting in this thread. Kids seem to be the bread-and-butter for Hobson’s, not us. :-S

While I don’t frequent the HSL forum so I don’t know their sentiments, the college life forum is just about dead and all of the frequent posters there are gone… they didn’t bother to complain, they just deserted.

You could definitely be on to something though.

High school kids are probably too busy to complain and/or don’t care enoght about a site they will drop the minute they decide on what college they are going to attend. I don’t think this site has a long shelf life for most kids. They come and then they go to be replaced by the next crop of kids.

Yeah, but parents pay the college bills and have the disposable income…most of the ads I see here are targeted to our demographic!

Some students only need temporary help/feedback from CC. If they have never been on before then they won’t know how the user-friendliness has gone down. They just won’t use it to the extent that they would have if it was like before. When you try something you aren’t paying for and was not regularly using, … you just don’t use it anymore. Hobson’s can’t be stupid enough to not know that.

I think the activity numbers will speak for themselves OR maybe we are clicking so much that they think activity has gone up.

Do the Terms of Service exist anywhere on the new CC? Do they still exist at all? I went looking for them because a poster in a new thread seems to be violating them freely. I found a disclaimer (which begins, “Read the legal disclaimer below. Most important, if you don’t get into Harvard because you followed our advice, don’t blame us”) <a href=“http://www.collegeconfidential.com/disclaimer.htm”>http://www.collegeconfidential.com/disclaimer.htm&lt;/a&gt;. It says, in part:

So is that it? No emphasis on “warm, welcoming community,” which I remember from the old TOS? No warning against discussing moderation? When the new version was rolled out, I asked about the TOS and was told that the terms were still in effect. But if they aren’t posted somewhere on the board, we can’t really be surprised when people don’t try to observe them. Are they over?

There was a thread recently locked by the mods where she linked the TOS. How you get to those on the new site is beyond me. (This was the linked thread: <a href=“https://auth.collegeconfidential.com/module.php/hobsonspolicies/policy.php?policy=tos”>https://auth.collegeconfidential.com/module.php/hobsonspolicies/policy.php?policy=tos&lt;/a&gt;)

When I hover over the right side of this thread title (or its sister, the Updates) on Bookmarks or Latest Posts, why do I now get a gear icon that offers me the option to “Dismiss?” And what would I be doing if I did dismiss those?

OMG, I just clicked “Home” from the string just above this thread title…and got logged off. I refreshed and the same. Had to right click on the back arrow to return here, (logged in.)

Awhile back, the moderators pointed out to the administrators that the TOS were no place to be found, so they provided us the link. It’s on the tech guys’ long “to do” list to make the TOS visible. Right now, people see them only when they register.

lookingforward, I don’t know what “Dismiss” means. I will ask.

Thanks
Also, when I did get to the Comm forum, romani’s 8:53 post is the last shown for this thread (under the red community forum header.) Even with a refresh or two, even leaving and coming back to it.

(That’s when I go direct to Forum Home, where the major forum headers are.) Oh, well.

Thank you for the info, MaineLonghorn. I appreciate all you folks do.

When you click on “dismiss,” it removes the thread from the top of “latest posts,” so it’s unpinned. But it shows up in chronological order when there is a new message, and you can bookmark it.

I posted asking about this a while ago, I think on this thread, and no one ever answered.

@MaineLonghorn- Would it be possible to post the TOS in a thread and pin them somewhere? I think it would be helpful

Post numbers! Are we ever going to get post numbers?

Midhelper posted earlier in the thread: “I think the activity numbers will speak for themselves OR maybe we are clicking so much that they think activity has gone up.”

Exactly. I remain unconvinced that some of the new changes aren’t designed to increase “clicking” or page views.

There has been no attempt to either answer or address the issue that you can no longer see when new posts are made in sub-forums (ie, Top CC Universities…it will tell you the #of threads, etc each college has, but not when the most recent posts have been made…so you really have to click on each college to see if there is anything new). So unfortunate. My kids are interested in some of top Liberal Arts Colleges, but I rarely check those anymore because there is so little movement. Not worth it to click on each one individually to see if there is a new post, and it feels like the responses are down. (Maybe due to the fact that if people don’t see there are new posts, they are not responding.)

From my observation, it appears that when there is a “technical glitch”, like log on/log off issues, the tech team is all over it. But try to get an answer to the actual issues that make the forums efficient (no post numbers, or being able to see when recent posts were made in sub-forums) and you will get radio silence.

Oh well, it was a great forum while it lasted. Still check back occassionally–but no longer the “go to” resource.

Who does the fixes? The CC tech team or the company that created the message board? If it’s another company, Hobson’s may be charged for changes, so maybe that is why many changes will never be made. I, too, believe that it’s all about page views. That’s what the advertisers want! I’ve repeatedly asked if postings have gone down (and it seems as if they have in many areas of CC) since the changeover, and crickets regarding that from administrators and mods (why the mods can’t answer the question is beyond me unless they have been told not to answer).

I doubt the mods have access to that info.

I think they have a general idea about number of posts. How could they not?

@CTTC: I didn’t recall your question. Sorry I missed it! Here it is:

“I’ve asked about this, too, including addressing this question to the mods. No answers (guess the mods, even though just volunteers, have to toe the CC party line). I’m going to just assume that page views and posts are way down post-changeover. If it were otherwise, I’m sure we would have been informed.”

The moderators have NO information about this subject. Posts aren’t even numbered for us.

As I stated a few posts back, moderators are asking the same questions users are. The administrators are frustrated, also.

Remember that moderators are volunteers. We do our best, but we’re not perfect.
