@romanigypsyeyes, I’ve just followed up with the tech team on the logout problem you mentioned. They couldn’t reproduce the exact issue (it seems it was a one-time issue that unfortunately happened to you), but they are planning a release that will hopefully solve all similar logout inconveniences. Sorry it took a while to get a response!
@MaineLonghorn I feel for you and thank you for passing on what you can from us. At least through you we have a feeling there is a link.
I have a new issue. I posted on a thread and now whenever I go back to that thread my message is still in the reply box even though it got posted and I know it did because I got a reply for it. I keep deleting it but when I go back it’s still there. I also don’t have anything in the drafts folder since it’s not even popping up. I hope this doesn’t spread to other threads, I have to keep deleting it.
@moody208, I appreciate the fact that you’re so insistent on helping me, but do you think you could answer some of the MANY, MANY other questions posed here?
Mine was a small problem that obviously just happened to me but the issues posed by others are common to most of us.
And seriously, an update would be nice. What was the point of having an “update” thread if it’s just crickets for well over a week?
It’s very telling that Moody comes on here and feels no reason to comment at all on MaineLonghorn’s posts. This has happened several times. Moody obviously reads the posts, otherwise he wouldn’t have known about Romani’s log off problem.
We have been asking from the get go about post #'s, white skin, font size and deleting PMs and yet none of the issues have been addressed, nor have we been told they are even going to work on it. It’s all crickets.
My drafts staying in the text book has been fixed - the message showed up in a drafts folder and I deleted it.
Post numbers? Will we get those in my lifetime?
Why can’t I choose to read the most recent posts first? I hate having to go all the way to the end to get recent posts. Isn’t that the most common way to read a forum?
Thanks,
I need chat panel…
Due to the warning in another pinned but closed thread I thought it would be a good idea to go back and look ath the ToS to which I agreed when opening an account on CC. None of my attempts to locate the link have been successful. A google search lead to an old thread which gave the following link:
<a href=“http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/faq.php?faq=vb_faq#faq_new_faq_item”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/faq.php?faq=vb_faq#faq_new_faq_item</a>
This returns a 'Page Not Found".
I am certain I did not sign a new ToS after the site upgrade. Since the old version is no longer available anywhere to which ToS are posters currently being asked to adhere?
<a href=“https://auth.collegeconfidential.com/module.php/hobsonspolicies/policy.php?policy=tos”>https://auth.collegeconfidential.com/module.php/hobsonspolicies/policy.php?policy=tos</a>
The moderators have requested that the TOS appear on the website again. The way it is now, users see the TOS only when they first register. I agree, people need to know the rules for posting!
When I use the CC iPhone/iPad application from my iPhone, it looks completely different than when I use it on my brand new IPad Air. WHY? On the iPhone it more resembles the old, pre-new format application. On my iPad, I looks JUST like the CC through Safari…and I hate this!
Any chance we will EVER get post numbers? EVER?
Yes, please please bring back post numbers and also whatever it was that made it possible to see at a glance that new comments had been made in participated threads.
Echoing Sally’s request!!
(Although I am quite sure it will fall on deaf ears, as similar requests have been made several times and CC has never, ever even remotely responded to them–so I will assuming this one will go by without a reponse as well.)
They only respond to technical glitches. Sadly, I think (along with others) the current way things are set up (with lack of post numbers and not being able to see at a glance that new comments have been made in threads/forums) are set up to increase page views and will likely not be changed.
The thing to keep in mind is that CC is not designed to convey information. Instead, it is designed to make money. If it can make more money by being less functional, it will be made less functional. The people who run CC seem to have contempt for the people who post here, but the people who post here are not their customers.
@SoCalDad2 I hope you are not right. That is so disturbing.
I am still begging for bookmarking sub forums - specifically colleges.
Through the alphabetical listing I clicked on a school’s forum I usually kept up with. BAM! there were lots of new threads but of course I had not known about them. The emails we used to receive of new threads and postings of the particular schools was really useful for us to give input on for other students/parents. Now it’s out of sight out of mind.
I think this actually means less clicking now.
Yes, I know you have no idea of number of posts, but isn’t each moderator responsible for reading all posts in certain boards? If so, do the mods have a general idea of whether they are skimming fewer posts now than before the changeover?
According to Alexa and another traffic site, both say traffic is down since Feb of last year. They’re also down in time per visit and number of pages viewed.
I don’t know how accurate those are <em>shrug</em>
I want to be able to able to sort posts by “most viewed”. I like reading popular forums based on readership. “Most replies” would also be helpful.
On a side note, for the moderators, when you lock a thread, could you please post a short sentence as to why? Some mods already do this, but not all. It’ll make your job easier as time goes on (because it shouldn’t happen as often), and we won’t have to wonder why. Thanks!
Powers-that-be, please take a look at the Musical Theatre Major forum, as a great example of why some sort of ‘activity indicator’ is important: <a href=“Musical Theater Major - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/musical-theater-major/</a>
At the top of the MT forum page is a listing of 50+ “Sub Topics”, or separate sub forums for many of the schools with MT programs. Each of these sub forums operates as an actual forum - each one contains threads which contain individual posts.
When folks are considering where to audition/apply for a musical theatre program, it’s likely they will refer to any number of the school sub forums as they build and refine their list of schools. They will check the sub forums frequently throughout the process for audition and decision information, or to pose questions, specific to that particular school.
Afterwards, sometimes for a period of many years, those same people will turn around and offer help and advice to future hopefuls who are going through the same process. That’s one thing that makes CC so valuable - not only can one receive a great deal of information from others, but one has the ability to pay it forward by providing advice based on hard-earned experience.
But without an indicator as to which sub forums have had activity, the only way to know there’s something new is to click on every single one. That might not deter those in the process of applying to these programs from checking every forum they are interested in, because that information may be critical to their process. But it certainly will deter those on the ‘helping’ side. If a forum pops up with an activity indicator of some kind, I just might look in and see if someone has posted a question I can answer. But if I never know there’s a question, I can’t answer it - and how likely is it that I will visit all those forums just on the chance that something new is there?
The Musical Theatre forum is only one example where a sub forum activity indicator is important. The Alphabetic List of Colleges is another. I’m sure there are more. PLEASE ADVISE whether this is a possibility with the new forum software.
