Official UC Irvine Fall 2017 Transfer Applicant Thread

ngl the freshmen thread for UCI admissions is kinda funny… because theyre all freaking out since admissions are rolling… also cant help but be nervous that it’s gonna be US like that in a month haha

@shooguu Perfect man, I joined that Facebook group that @starrysaraa created “UC Irvine Transfer Students 2017” on Facebook. I’ll probably work out the specifics of the meetup a little bit later on when the details are released.

Also, I never posted my basic information, so here it is.

Background Information: Horrible student in high school. Graduated with a 1.6 GPA in high school and no real aspirations to pursue college. Eventually, I have a son and discover the ceilings that are present in the job field that I landed in and weighed pursuing something else from the ground up or getting back into school. Decided getting back into school was the option that I wanted to pursue and have been putting all my eggs in that basket for the past two years. Straight A’s since I’ve been back, hoping the upward grade trend matters enough.

Your major: Business Econ

Your transferable GPA: 3.78

Your major GPA: 4.0

Your ECs: None. I have a son and spent the majority of my time outside of school working.

Work Exp: Service industry for the past 7 years.

Schools applied: I plan to apply to UCI, UCSB, UCSD, UCLA, and Cal. I’ve received admission from UCI and UCSB so far, and am waiting on a response from the other three.

Personal Statements: Went over my unique college path (First-generation college student, returning student, and having to juggle the responsibilities of parenthood alongside performing well in school), talked about empathy being my greatest skill and the reasons that it developed through life experiences.The last two were: talking about the biggest challenge I’ve had to overcome in life (having a son at a young age), and my biggest educational hurdle that I’ve had to overcome (being a first-gen college student and how I’ve had to independently develop and discover ways to be successful in school and why it is important to me that I do so.)

I’ve come a long way and am looking forward to transition into the next half of my college career. I’m hoping to focus more on developing relationships and immersing myself into my perspective industry now that I will be at a four-year.

Did any Honors to Honors people want to meet at the information meeting? It is the same morning of the Celebrate UCI day thing so maybe a group of us could all meet up?
I am definitely going to the meeting but wasn’t sure if I wanted to go to the Celebrate thing since it sounds like a big pep rally and…thats not really my thing. However, I would love to get more involved and meet more people that are going through the same process, and ya know LET THE STRESS BIND US ALL.
@mellieator @shooguu @starrysaraa
maybe you three have already set something up to meet up, and I’d love to join in!

@xushiroll We haven’t decided on anything yet, but it’ll be great to meet some people before going into UCI. I’m not much of a pep rally person either, but CC social life for me was kind of a dud so I’m definitely going.

UCI got the memo that I like stickers LOL

Still anxiously waiting for a UCI notifcation. Got into UCSB but for mathematics (alt major). Any other taggers here other than seokminnie0218 and kkus2013 still waiting?

If you tagged, can you guys see the financial aid?

@darkarchang3l no, they give a message that our financial aid package will be given in May.

thanks @macknzie :slight_smile:

@darkarchang3l I can log in my financial aid account, and I can see what documents they need.
UCI asked me for a financial document in Feb. I submitted it, and it is under review now

@kkus2013 I’ve checked that but I was wondering when the award would be haha thank you :3 I didn’t know if it was May for all or if they released earlier

Can we expect something on April 1st?

@loyalfan49 Since April 1st is a Sunday, probably unlikely. Based on last year’s thread, decisions started coming out randomly on April 14th (which was a Thursday oddly enough; 99% TAG students), then followed on April 15th (99% TAG; Friday), then the big batch didn’t arrive until April 22 (Friday). Which is why everyone is predicting April 21 (which is also predicted day for UCD, UCSD, and UCLA).

@Nataliee177 Saturday because the HTCC Conference at UCI is on April Fool’s Day lol and I’m presenting >.> please don’t make me freak out like that haha like I have enough scheduling conflicts as it is ‘~’

@darkarchang3l Yes, my bad!! April 1st is a Saturday!

@Nataliee177 it’s all goood :3

@Nataliee177 thank you!

one quick question, with uci, can I change major (mole bio to chemistry) after being admitted through tag?

@mariahlopez1 If you meet the tag requirements for chemistry, I wouldn’t see why not. You should message your admissions counselor.

Applied to a bunch of colleges but this is the one I most care about. Can anyone chance me?
