Official UC Irvine Fall 2017 Transfer Applicant Thread

It appears it is a $2500 scholarship. Can anyone else confirm what the amount is as I’ve seen conflicting reports.

Do you have to apply for the Regents scholarship? Or is it given to you depending on the school?

@okokokokok123 thanks for prompting me to check, I was also accepted to merage and received regents as well. Looks they just updated it now because I remember it saying before they would release the recipients in early April. I’m also curious on the amount and if it is renewable for the second year…still hoping for haas though hehe

Update: found it, it is indeed for $2500 and for both years. Regents also get priority enrollment.

I received regents as well! Thanks for the update.

@GoHaasOrGoHome click on the benefits tab. the $2500 scholarship applies to the second year as well.

@GoHaasOrGoHome Didn’t see your update. Glad you found it.

@BackNSchool83 Thanks so much! It’s such a relief to read that! I like UCLA’s program a bit better, but I think that my chances of getting in are really slim. I think that I’m ultimately going to make my decision between the two schools based on costs. I live relatively close to UCI, so commuting wouldn’t be a problem. UCLA, on the other hand, would force me to live in campus housing/Westwood. I’m trying to have as little debt as possible when going into grad school. How do you like UCI so far?

@Sekime Thanks! That info is really helpful.

Did anyone get in today???

@Food4Life I’m checking this thread every hour to see if anyone got in today lmao

Its now 3, anyone hear anything?!

Any admitted students going to the Celebrate UCI thing on 22nd?

Is anyone having trouble accessing the application tracker? I can type in my username and password but once I hit the login, the webpage is forever loading. I tried using my desktop, laptop, and phone’s cellular data

@Food4Life I just checked mine. I have the same thing. I hope that means their updating decisions. Can anyone confirm this?

The pressure is killing me hahahaha

I’m thinking because UCI was on top of it this year for admissions (especially tag students), if anything, they’ll start on Monday which is the 3rd

@bigvoot Yeah, some of us on here are going

I think the portal is down right now

I really like UCI a lot, and the other thing to consider is that your undergrad isn’t as critical as your grad degree in terms of where you go, at least if you are getting a degree in a behavioral science major. UCI vs UCLA for undergrad in psych, both degrees would land you the same jobs, which is quite limited. I am going to apply to UCLA for grad school, and honestly I’m glad I went to UCI because it was close. That meant I could spend more time doing other things besides commuting. A commute to LA from south OC could be an hour or it could be 3, whereas I can make it to UCI in like 15 minutes. Living on campus would be expensive, and it would be a distraction I think. The other advantage of UCI is that it is PSB and not general psychology. PSB is basically all the fun classes in general psych without the extra math. The classes that general psych offers that are different are all neurocognitive, and in the PSB program, each class you take is going to have a chapter about how neuroscience relates to whatever subject is at hand. For example say you are in a positive psychology class, there will be a chapter about neuro, then in your developmental psych a chapter about neuro, then in your addiction psych a chapter about neuro. In the end I think it’s all covered. The general psych degree focuses a lot on neuroscience here at UCI, and that’s great for some, but for others it might not be as beneficial as taking more application based classes like are in the PSB program. PSB really prepares you for going into clinical work, or social work. It would be a tough call though, the prestige of UCLA is very tempting, but then again UCI isn’t anything to look down upon, it’s a hard school to get in and in my experience the classes have been good. PSB also requires a field study, which could help you with finding a job. I’m doing mine over the summer at a foster care agency, which will help when I apply to social work schools. My best to you, having options of where to choose to go is great and both schools are a good choice.

Portal is up…no change for me
