Official UC Irvine Fall 2017 Transfer Applicant Thread

UCI is a blast, you will arrive soon enough. Thank you.Frolick, you have good stats, you will get in somewhere for sure, UCI I think you have a good chance.Pow, as a fellow PSB, I hope you get in, and you have a high enough GPA to have a good chance as well. I’d say odds are greater that all 3 of you get in than you don’t.

Can someone chance me?

I don’t know if you need the 3.0 at time of application, or at time of transfer. 3.0 is the minimum they will let in. I’m feeling like odds aren’t in your favor, but maybe not impossible. Hope you have other schools you are looking at as backup.

What do you guys think about my application

Chance me maybe? :o

You have as good a gpa as you can get, ecs are average. Id say 75 percent confidence you get in.

Hi everyone,

I hope you guys had a successful Fall semester/quarter. I have several questions about transferable classes. As a Psychology major, I have to take Psy 9A - 9B - 9C (one year of lower division classes) for School requirement. I am looking at ASSIST right now . According to ASSIST, for my college, 9A is equivalent to Introduction to Psychology and (?) Psychobiology. There is no course for 9B. 9C is equivalent to Introduction to Psychology and(?) Abnormal Psychology. If I want to satisfy 9A and 9C, I have to take the three classes? And if I want to satisfy the School requirement, I have to take those 3 classes along with Psy 9B at UCI ? I took Introduction to Psychology and Abnormal Psychology. I am planning to take Psychobiology this semester. It just looks odd me that transfers have to take 3 (semester) classes and one (quarter) class to satisfy 3 (quarter) classes. I am looking at other community colleges and the requirement looks even more confusing to me. Maybe I am looking at it the wrong way. Let me know if I am wrong.

Hmm well you should always consult a transfer counselor at your CC and see if anyone at UCI admissions or an academic advisor will talk to you. My experience was that assist showed each class and what it counted as. Are you getting an AAT in psych? Not sure it matters. For me as a psychology and social behavior transfer, 9a was intro, 9b was bio psych and I think the other was my abnormal psych. Research methods counted as a school requirement. Are you dong psych or PSB? I’m going to try and convert you…depending on your career goals. Private message me your community college name, I’ll look and see if you like. Just talk to an official of someknd before planning classes.

Prereqs: Everything except Circuits
TAG: No
ECs: REU at UC Riverside in Materials Science and Engineering

I thought the minimum GPA for transfer was 2.4?

@mmkelly1: The minimum transfer GPA may be 2.4 to apply, but that does not mean you will get in with that GPA.

http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/infocenter/transfers-major

If you look on the link, the lowest GPA listed for a UC transfer admit range at UCI is 3.07- Social Ecology.

This isn’t an easy school to get into, its as selective as San Diego and Davis for many majors. Look at your local cal state. Usually you can get into the CSU near your CC with a lower gpa than normal. UCI 3.0 is the minimum anyone could realistically get in with and that’s rare. Most gpas are around a 3.4

UCI BusEcon 2 year Transfer from CCC
Alt Major: Econ

UC GPA: 3.38 (if I can nail my Calc 2 final this week and get an A)
Major GPA: 3.47~ish?
IGETC: Completed
TAP: Completed
Prereqs: Complete by spring 2017

Two ARs: one was a GE, the other was major prep that i passed with a C, retaken because UCI requires B or higher for major, received an A.

ECs:
-Worked 2 jobs, 50+/week in spring/summer 2016 while taking 20/14 units, respectively. 22 units in fall 2016/20 units in spring 2017 while working 30-40 hours a week.
-Now work at a bank, promoted within 6 months with the firm, plus an internship with a real estate broker/loan officer while taking 21 units(3 of which are accelerated courses)
-parents are separated, responsible for about 5 siblings/cousin as a fill-in parent on a daily basis
-dad lost his job in my first semester of college, 50% income loss (which is why i had to pick up so many jobs)

I did list all my volunteer experience/awards from high school(it was a lot), because I felt I needed to justify that I’ve always been super involved and active, so I replaced volunteering with working. Had a few counselors read over my essays + a UCLA RA, 8.5/10 essays? Theme was resilience, lack of support system, upward trend in everything.

Other schools: UCLA(TAP; anthro as alternate major), UCB

I’m starting to worry I messed up by not applying to more schools. UCLA is my target but if I can’t get into UCI i have no backup besides dillydallying around community for another year.

why does UCI accept people with such low gpa’s ?

Because not all UCs can be Cal… It really depends on your major too, but the average transfer GPA seems to be a around a 3.4, freshman closer to 4.0. What do you consider a low GPA, what is your major, and what is your GPA?

Hi everyone! I have a concern about my application, and I’m wondering if someone can help me. I have been attending cc for the last 3 years on and off. At the end of last fall, I chose my winter and spring classes so I’d have a total of 60 units completed by spring. Now fast forward to January, I updated my app by February 1 like we were supposed to do, but just yesterday I got an email from my cc that my conversational Spanish class got canceled due to low enrollment. So now I’ll only have 58 units :(( so now I have to not only worry about finding another class before Monday, but now I think I gotta call the schools and explain why my transcripts wont look like what I put on my app…Ugh im so annoyed >:P If anyone has any insight, I’d appreciate it

There’s a place to email a counselor on the UCI portal page. I suggest you email them about your situation asap. I don’t think you should worry because it wasn’t your fault, but make sure you find a class to add so you can finish your 60 units.
Curious question, was this class needed for transfer (igetc or major prep)?
