Personal Statements were not reviewed by a counselor but they were strong. I’m a female non-traditional student that left a really good private school about 5 years ago because of mental health issues and I wasn’t passionate about my major (it wasn’t challenging or meaningful to me). Discovered informatics and programming and got excited about it, so going back to finish with a new major and excited to be in science. No grammatical issues and written well.
IGETC - complete after this semester (was only missing science with a lab)
I basically discovered the program I want to be a part of and decided to go back to school / apply to UCI last fall. Because I decided so late, Fall classes at my CC (IVC) had already started so I couldn’t start until Spring. Informatics requires one year CS classes and highly recommends more (+ stats which I already took). I am in my first Java class and put on my application that I’m taking data structures over summer (so that would be one year). I thought being in my first CS class and having been out of school a while would seem weird, but in my essays I explained how I’ve been learning how to program for a couple of years now and talked about how I’ve already been applying my knowledge irl and what I have overcome since leaving school.
If I got waitlisted, does that mean I met their requirements? I thought that if I didn’t get in, it would be because I haven’t taken any CS classes before this semester, but technically I will have met the 1 year requirement after Summer. I was just wondering if anyone knows if they waitlisted randomly or just a ton of people, or if they actually would have taken me if my GPA was more competitive. They only took 17 transfers in my major last year which is scary but only 65 applied.
