Official UC Irvine Fall 2017 Transfer Applicant Thread

@UCtoUCtransfer789 LOL!
I’m at UCR right now!
Got admitted to UCI and UCD as a bio major!!

Guys, I just submitted the SIR and made a payment. I received a confirmation e-mail from UCI but on UC MyAdmission, it says that they have not received my SIR. Does it take them a while to update or I have to submit again ?

@truesciencelover That’s awesome! I’m at UCSC rn. Congrats on getting in, it’s not easy getting in as a UC transfer. You f for sure going to Irvine?

@BackNSchool83 I’m not sure if that was directed towards me but thanks for the feedback. Also I was admitted as my major in Psy. and Social Behavior through the school of social ecology and that’s exactly what I wanted because I’m thinking of or at least want to become a school psychologist. See that’s the thing, I know UCI is more prestigious in terms of academics, but I would have to take out loans for living in their apartments and if I go to UCR I won’t have to since I would be commuting. However, UCI was my dream school ever since high school but if I have an opportunity to graduate and receive my bachelors without accumulating any loans, isn’t that the better decision?

@IMTBEST
Yeah it takes a day or so to update, as long as you got the confirmation email, you should be fine

Here are some things to consider if you have been admitted…

  1. You need to SIR to confirm your spot
  2. You will need to find verification of all your vaccinations and tests you have had for diseases that the UC Health department wants you to have. If you are missing all your information like I was, a good way to get this is by going to your community college health department and doing the tests/getting the immunizations there for cheap. All that has to be submitted via the health portal before the start of the quarter.
  3. Get familiar with webreg, the schedule of classes, and EEE after you set up your UCI email, zot portal, financial aid portal, the campus map, etc. Here are all the useful links.

SUMMER http://www.summer.uci.edu/

  1. Make sure you figure out when your school’s academic advising session is and sign up for it via the school’s website.
  2. Parking permits will be made available on the transportation website later in the summer. Something to consider is that they can be purchased for the whole year, so it’s not like every quarter you get to start over and pick a new parking zone, oh and they are incredibly expensive, like $300 a quarter. What happened to me was I got a permit for the student center parking structure, but found they often close off the upper levels for private events and then you are screwed for finding a spot. So don’t go for the student center, I suggest getting a permit for one of the main parking structures like Mesa, Anteater, or Social Sciences. If you go with a large parking structure the odds are, even if you have to go to the roof, you will always get a spot. Also parking after 5 pm is open to anywhere on campus, so if you have an Anteater parking structure permit you can go anywhere else. There are also these different types of permits like the AR permit. AR is a little more money, but you can use AR spaces. What you will find though is that AR spaces are often full as well. Your classes aren’t likely all going to be in the part of campus dedicated to your school or major, often classes are located all around campus so be ready for that.
  3. Financial aid will not be available to you until like the week before the quarter starts or the week of.
  4. Each quarter you will receive a disbursement if you have something like FAFSA, and it may be thousands of dollars.
  5. Summer session is not covered by financial aid, and summer session is usually 5 weeks long. So take a 10 week class and make it 5 weeks… it’s brutal sometimes. The only way financial aid will cover summer is if you take over 8 units.
  6. I suggest you order your books online (get the correct isbn) and get an iclicker
  7. about iclickers… they look like a TV remote and we use them in class, often to take attendance. You might want to get a lanyard for your iclicker to hang it around your neck when you are in class. I constantly hear people drop them and they shatter and you hear batteries rolling around and people scrounging up parts of their iclicker.
  8. they say you have to go to the new student welcome at the Bren events center, but the truth is you don’t have to go to all this extra pep rally UCI stuff if you don’t want to. The only thing you HAVE TO go to is your schools academic advising session to register.
  9. If you have not checked out rate my professors.com it’s time to, and it’s time to look at the eater eval on EEE to see how students like different professors. You can learn a lot by looking up the websites of classes from previous quarters that you might want to take now, often the syllabus is listed and you can get a very good idea of what to expect. I honestly think it’s critical that you know what you are getting into, and find ways of balancing the workload. Don’t just wing it and take all mystery professors. Find ways of taking a few easier classes with a few harder ones if possible to spread out your misery.

  10. If you want to use disability services you need to contact DSC as soon as possible on their website and make a profile.
  11. consider taking a second major or a minor, for my major PSB I found that I would have a lot of extra electives left over, almost enough for a second major in CLS, all I had to do was take 2 extra classes, so 2 of my quarters will be 5 classes instead of 4. It’s doable, and once it’s done it’s done forever.

After all that, you really just need to show up and do your best. I was afraid of doing poorly at UCI because it was a big scary UC and I was a feeble CC transfer. What I found was that provided I was careful about what classes I took when and that I was proactive and had good time management, it went way way better than expected. You might think transferring is going to be so crazy going from semester to quarter but honestly it’s not. No one I know who transferred felt like they couldn’t handle the pace that I know of. You are going to do great, and getting to come to a school that you had to work hard and accomplish a lot to be accepted into makes it a special experience. Sometimes walking around those big intense buildings that ring the park, I think to myself how lucky I am to be there and how cool it all really is. Experiences like being accepted to UCI, working hard and achieving goals like transferring from your CC or doing well as a student, navigating the application process, it all builds self confidence and self worth. After almost a year at UCI now ALREADY, I can say that attending this school is one of the greatest things I’ve done with my life and I am very glad for it, which is why I’m on here a year later trying to be helpful to this group of new students. I hope you find a similar experience. ZOT ZOT, and congrats again to all my new fellow anteaters!

Why couldn’t you commute from the IE? If you take the toll road you would be at UCI within 45 minutes… an hour tops. Then again if that isn’t really an option I see what you are saying and I get why that is a tough call. I don’t know what the right thing for you is obviously, but for me I was willing to commute to UCR had I not been accepted to UCI.

Any Informatics major hear back yet ???

@BackNSchool83 Do you think transfers has a high chance to get in if they repeal when they get rejected?

@hingoman25 wednesday night!

Oh man… I wish eater eval is available to newly admitted students… but thank you so much for your extremely helpful tips! I am going to refer back to your post frequently as I decide which school I will be attending in the fall. Btw: do you know anything about studying business admin at UCI? I have not been able to find much about it online :confused:

My major is linguistics but since UCI doesnt have that major I applied as Psych!
I did the TAG. Hope I got in. Wish me luck and good luck to everyone else!
Hope you guys can get into schools y’all want!
I’m going to check tmrw morning. Why so late.

can someone clarify the waitlist system please. How do you get off it? Does someone with your same major need to decline? Can it be a pecking order on a first come first serve basis (in the order of who signed for the waitlist first)? Just curious

Is anyone going to the UCI Celebration even though they’re waitlisted? Debating if I should attend :-S

@enpz45 @SteveStevey @Tomiscoming What was your GPA for business administration? And did you accept to be on the waitlist?

If you didn’t hear back from UCI already does that mean it’s going to be a rejection or are they going to be sending out alternat major acceptances

@babysnow yeah I plan to SIR elsewhere, I’m still waiting to hear back from UCSD, UCLA, and UCB.

Oh good!!! Probably. That’s good news, until when is it deferred? I hope I get my fee deferred too because I can’t afford it right now.
