On Friday, I had to call three of the campuses I applied to (SD, Berkeley, and LA) due to issues with my UC App not listing them online anymore, and I found out that each of them was closed that day for an “administrative holiday.” To me, that sounds like they were taking a pause in between finishing the freshman apps and starting on transfers. I’m guessing they’re only just starting to really dig into the transfer apps, and since they realize that everyone needs their decision ASAP, they’re going to start releasing them on a rolling basis… except for LA and Cal of course, since they have a much higher number of apps to go through, and probably figure that a lot of people would start panicking if they weren’t in one of the first batches if they were to release on a rolling basis.

That’s just my take on the whole matter, of course. Bottom line, I think we aren’t seeing many decisions yet because those schools (Irvine, SD) are really only just getting started on reviewing the majority of transfer apps. I wouldn’t get your hopes up about hearing anything in the next week… just shoot for April 15-ish, and if you hear something sooner, then that’s fantastic.

Of course, it would be nice if they could have gotten back to us sooner, but the number of freshman apps far outweighs transfers. At least now they’ll be able to devote time to considering us without having to worry about plowing through however many hundreds of freshman apps per day. For that reason, I’m glad that they’ve waited until freshmen were done to start reviewing our apps.

I know it’s frustrating… I’ve had those moments of irritation and despair myself, but we’re SO CLOSE!

It was extremely frustrating for me in March; I literally checked the portal everyday. Yes, it’s disappointing, but sooner or later, the decisions will be posted by the end of this month. I’m just going to relax from now on and see how things turn out.

Hopefully they don’t lag like last year. I remember getting my acceptance to UCI during the first week of may… a week after UCLA/UCSD/UCB sent theirs out

I understand that everyone just wants to know if they’ve been accepted or not, and that the anxiety is killing everyone (myself included). However, I find it ridiculous and laughable that people are getting upset because decisions haven’t been posted yet when it’s only the first day of April. They are supposed to come out within mid-March, to the end of April. That means, anytime from now until the end of April. It’d be a different story if it were currently May, then i could understand people getting upset. But getting mad right now? Seriously? That extra time they’re taking into their admissions process could decide whether or not you get accepted.

Frankly, everything is out of your hands at this point, and there is NOTHING you can do to speed up that process (that includes looking up last years dates). So just sit back, keep doing your thing, and you’ll hear from them soon enough.

TL;DR
Getting mad about how long it’s taking is pointless and petty. There’s nothing you can do about it but wait.

I can say the same thing back to you, and more. However, I do not wish to argue with anyone especially since I know that right now is a time of stress for all of us transfer applicants. You are definitely free to voice how you feel, as did I. I just don’t understand the point of exerting energy and frustration over nothing, especially when no good will come out of it. We’re all in the same boat of being anxious and worried, but you, and everyone else here is above that. I’m not saying it’s bad to be upset; it’s natural, but it’s not productive either. You may not like me or what I have to say; and that’s fine, that’s your choice and right. Regardless, I still wish you and the rest of us strength, and perseverance this next month as we all get accepted (and we WILL get accepted!) into our schools :>

well most schools said they would release all the decisions by the end of april. so why are people upset and frustrated when its the first day of april? because we turned in these apps in november! 5+ months is a long time to wait for anything. the private schools i applied to had an app deadline around feb/march and a 1 month turnaround time.

if you are young, live with and supported by your parents, I’m sure everything is fine and dandy. but i am 26 years old. i need to make decisions and i don’t like to wait around for 5 months to plan things out at the last minute. so far the only uc i’ve heard back from is irvine and it was once my 3rd choice but now its my first choice simply because i have lined up a job and potential roommate. LA WAS my first choice but i haven’t heard back from them so who knows if i should waste my time looking for a job around there

I definitely understand. I’m 25 and live on my own as well, my lease is ending soon so I’m also waiting to see where I need to start looking for a new place to live, and a new job. I have a potential place to stay if I go to Irvine, but i’m still looking at places in SD, and LA in case one of those schools accepts me. If anyone else here understands your position, it’s me. The fact is though, is that we were all fully aware it’d take quite some time to hear back from the UCs, and applied expecting it. Sure, private schools may be faster, but these aren’t private schools; they’re UCs. Apples to Oranges is the phrase here.

Everyone knew they’d have to wait, everyone doesn’t want to wait, everyone wants to know now. I definitely share this feeling with everyone else so I’m guilty as charged; but it’s pointless to get upset when they’re doing what they said they’d be doing right? I digress. I’m frustrated as well, and I anticipate seeing that message that says “congratulations!” So if you and others choose to be upset, okay, that’s your right and I will say no more about it because i do understand why you would be. On the contrary though, i choose to be patient. Good luck to you sir and everyone else!

@navymike & dancemasterv: I’m in the same boat as both of you. Are you guys still taking class this semester? I only have a month or two to find a new place to live once the semester ends. My gf and I live together and she is graduating this fall but their “term” system is weird which means I will probably have to make arrangements mid-quarter after transferring to arrange moving the rest of the stuff out of our current place to wherever I end up. I feel lucky that my buddy can set me up with a job at any Apple store in the area, and it seems like there is one near every UC.

Yep! This semester I’m finishing up my Math course and one last Art course for completion of the IGETC. Are you currently taking classes right now too? Also, where does your GF go, and when does her term end? Regardless, I really wish you good luck on getting into your Universities!

Dang man, a sure job at any Apple location sounds awesome! If i get into Irvine, my friend said she could probably help me out with a job at a place called Ajisen Ramen at the Diamond/Jamboree plaza. No guarantees on that though :9 If i’m accepted into any UC though, i’m definitely taking any job i can get!

@ dancemasterv: Nice! Yeah I am taking class this semester. A Java pre-req for Irvine, a journalism pre-req for CSUF, and a Anthro pre-req for Cal(Yeah I know, I’m all over the place). My gf goes to Art Center in Pasadena, they have a weird term system. Not really sure how it works. Good luck to you too! And yeah I feel very lucky that there are so many apple locations to accommodate me for wherever I transfer. My buddy has been a genius at the store for a while and can put in a good word for me, and I’ve been in the computer wholesale industry for 5 yrs so I’m sure that will help a lot. =]

@dancemasterv I share your sentiments, and I think your posts have been quite eloquent. I’m 27 and it is incredibly frustrating to not know where you’re going to be in less than six months, but I did go into this process knowing that I probably wouldn’t hear back until the end of April. This is not to say that others’ feelings aren’t valid, but I think a little bit more patience will ensure a much greater reward
Also, if you end up working at the Diamond Jamboree center, you’ll have to try the sea salt coffee from 85C. I think if I move out of the area for a UC, I’ll miss that place the most!

^^ I’ve been wanting to check out this jamboree plaza place. I was actually in the area over the weekend at the Marine aquarium expo in Costa Mesa(yeah I’m a fish nerd, lol) and Spectrum. Best of luck to the 24+ people! Like me I know all of you have put off this school deal for a few years for whatever reasons that you had. But most importantly is that we are finally moving on!

@iDizzle you definitely should check it out, but just a word of warning, go during off hours or you’ll have to deal with an insane parking lot. I’ve seen half hour lines just to get into 85C during peak hours! I understand the hype, but I usually can’t justify standing in line that long for bread and coffee. Let me know if you have any questions about the area, I’ve lived in Irvine/Irvine area for about 15 years!

^^^ Thanks! Yeah I love the industrial feel of the irvine area =]. So far I’ve been accepted to SC and SB and those areas are beautiful and all but I don’t think I could ever get used to it. I still prefer to live in an urban/industrial area.

^^Irvine is far from industrial, its a suburban planned city. For the Diamond Jamboree Plaza, it does get super packed. I highly recommend parking in the hidden parking structure. Behind the 85C store.

so now that the 9am message is gone, does that mean transfers are notified at anytime of the day? Or are we still notified in the middle of the night?
