Official UCLA 2016 Appeals Thread

Anyone looking to appeal? I know I shouldn't be complaining since my stats were mediocre to begin with but I know some of you (or even a majority) are higher than the average and you were still rejected/waitlisted.

If you're planning to appeal, what "new and compelling information" are you going to bring in to your letter of appeal?

Ucla has been my dream since 3rd grade but I was rejected
My uw gpa is a 3.9 and weighted is a 4.2
If it means anything first semester senior year I got straight A’s
My act was 29 sat was 1990
I was a coxswain for crew 2 years, key club member 4 years, csf 4 years, started a habitat for humanity club at my school president 2 years, volunteer with multi ethnic donor program 2 years (leukemia and lymphoma society 4 years)
I’m half white half Hispanic.

So here’s my story:
Four years ago my dad was diagnosed with a blood disorder called polycythemia Vera-eventually he will end up with leukemia. For the past four years he has been in and out of the hospital which has taken a toll on me, I have had to try to balance 3 hours of crew practice 5 days a week, keep up my grades, manage my stress because of him, and help out my brother who had autism and I have to tutor him almost every night for school work-along with my other extracuricullars. I’m a really well rounded person who would give anything to go to ucla. Because of this stress I also didn’t have adequate time to prepare for sat and I could’ve possibly taken on more ap classes.

In my application I put that my dad did have this disease, I explained what it was but instead of trying to make it sound like a pity party for me I wrote about how I overcame that and hosted my own bone marrow drive and worked with the cancer organizations above. My brother and dad being in hospital, effect it had on me was not mentioned whatsoever.

So my question is, is the information I have provided above basis for appeal?

UCLA appeals (and I guess appeals everywhere else) continuously mentions how the new information you bring in must not have been mentioned before.

I can’t necessarily say that story isn’t compelling but it was mentioned in your application, though there is a slight chance it could have been overlooked. You can go into more detail about it in your appeal. I honestly believe that if you were the one taking care of him the entire time, then that would be more of a basis. Is that true? If so, then you have a reason for appeal in my opinion!

Just a question: Is UCLA’s appeal only limited to 200 words like UCSD or is it the standard 1 page letter.

Do you think we rejectee’s may still have a chance at getting in through appeals? Especially with the introduction of a waitlist this year and the amount of applicants that applied…

@Hellodav - I was looking through the previous forums and people who were appealing had to send in a physical letter, I believe. Let’s really hope that’s the case because I think that will give us more space to explain.

@Sparkn - Do not give up hope, ever. There’s always a small chance, although minuscule, it’s still a chance. Go for whatever your dream is, especially if that’s UCLA.

@seresteiras This year UCLA appeals were to be sent only online through their website…does anyone know how long it takes for them to respond?

they said three weeks; if you dont hear back by May 1st to contact them

I sent in my appeal to LA on time. However, I just checked my application for the heck of it and saw that under languages it said that I only spoke French (French is my first language, but I certainly am fluent in English as well!). Is there anyway I can notify LA of this error?
Also, I understand they don’t accept letters of recommendation, but could my counselor send in my updated grades with an evaluation of me as a student (i.e. has always taken the most challenging classes offered, top 5%, etc.)
Thanks guys. I just found out about the language error, and I’m a bit anxious.

Has anyone heard back yet after sending in their appeals?

i dont think anybody has heard back yet.
And browneyed852, where did you see that?
In the confirmation email I received they didn’t say things like that though.
I’m so anxious about it now :<

My appeal results came in today; I got admitted!

@trineroks if you don’t mind me asking, what did you write on your appeal letter?

He’s trolling.

Edit: accidentally posted twice

Ugh it’s really not funny to ■■■■■ appealing kids right now
It’s like going through the march madness once again
Idk at least I checked mine it still says its in progress
Not sure if they respond to the appeal pool altogether or individually.
Did any of you appealed to other schools as well?
My admissions this year were extremely bad I didnt get into any of my target schools
I appealed to Davis LA and UW. Anxiously waiting for all three of them…

@trineroks
what day did you submit your appeal and what is your major?

trolling? I think not.

Maybe it’s because I appealed through the band. I did not appeal through the standard site.

I found that my admissions decision was updated on April 23rd (I do not know exactly when it changed). I originally applied for bioengineering but was rejected. Reapplied under undeclared-life sciences and made it in. So no I am not trolling.

I submitted my band appeal on April 1st.

@trineroks
I apologize. Cuz I noticed you are a new member and the only thing you have posted was saying you are admitted. It seemed a bit suspicious to me, I’m sorry about that.
Well, I guess your case is a special one then. Congratulations!

congrats trineroks!
how exactly does appealing through the band work?
just out of curiosity
one again, congrats
