I hope you are not a ■■■■■. With those stat you should be at least accepted to UC Riverside. Are you sure that you didn’t make a mistake on your application? Are you sure that you completed all the required a-g classes? You mentioned that your UC W GPA is 4.6. If that’s capped, that’s a little bit high and would be hard, statistically to have that high unless you didn’t take a lot of a-g classes during sophomore and junior. Could this be the reason that the UCs rejected you?

Regents Scholarship:

2018dad: I can assure you i’m no “■■■■■”. I know that it’s highly competitive to get into a UC nowadays. My friend who was valedictorian of her class was rejected from the three UCs she applied to. I’m sure I met the requirements, otherwise my counselor would have notified me immediately. I’m gonna try to apply again as a transfer in two years. I reviewed my application numerous times for mistakes, but saw none.

I apologized if I doubted you. I feel guilty because my daughter has somewhat similar stat as you (maybe a little bit lower on the SATs (but she also has an UW 4.0 UC GPA and have somewhat better ECs (sports, captain varsity, etc. and other leadership positions) and she was accepted to all the UCs that she applied to (UCB/UCLA (Regents)/UCSD/UCSB/UCD/UCI). I wish I can give you one of her acceptances since she’s probably going to a private school. Anyway, best of luck and I’m sorry about your results.

@2018dad I understand. I was so disappointed that my hard work and sacrifices weren’t enough to get me into my dream schools (Berkeley and LA). But at least I have the blessing of a fresh new start

To those who didn’t get in with high stats, don’t feel discouraged by reading about a handful of people who were admitted with considerably lower stats. Those who often tend to respond in threads like these are those who are outliers to the norm who are accepted, in addition to those who had to legitimately overcome conditions that affected their high-school studies and SAT prep. There’ll should be a UC that accepts you, and if not, there’ll be a CSU that certainly does, and there’s always the transfer possibility down the road.

silas6070 has slightly better stats than our son (who had no sports and almost no EC’s), yet our son received Regents or a Regents invite at six of the UC’s. So Silas6070’s rejection at all the UC’s doesn’t make much sense.

I was rejected, appealed my rejection, and now I’ve just found out today that I was accepted!!

@SoCalDad2 you keep talking about how me being rejected from the UCs is bizarre as if you expect me to give a detailed explanation as to why Berkeley, Los Angeles, and the other schools did not accept me. I honestly do not know their motives, but I am not extremely shocked since I knew that from the very beginning that UC schools are challenging to get in due to the large number of applications they receive, especially this year. Whether or not you believe it, I didn’t get in and no amount of disbelief or encouragement will change that. I didn’t try to appeal the decisions as on their websites they highly discourage attempts to appeal rejections since VERY few students have a change in status. Some of my closest friends who were rejected to the UCs tried appealing, but did not succeed. I’m not going to let these decisions affect me though; I’d like to think of this experience as a second chance to better prepare me for college. One thing that scared me about getting accepted to the UCs was that I would not have been able to handle the work load or cutthroat competition, causing me to drop out. All that’s left is to accept this, stand strong, work hard at CSU Fullerton, and pray that I have a better chance in two years. :)

@sila6070 If I were you I would have definitely appealed. Your details suggest something went wrong with your application. I would just restate the details and appeal.
BTW your stats definitely qualify you for UC state wide as well ELC path, so you are guaranteed admission to one of the UCs. So you should hear from one of UCs (Merced at the least), offering you an admission. If you did not get that, then definitely there was a mistake in your application, which you should double check and appeal with correction.

silas6070 – you probably don’t want advice from me, but you need to less passive and more assertive. Don’t let yourself be pushed around by the system. Stand up for yourself. With your credentials, you should have been accepted at most of the “top” colleges, including most or all of the UC’s.

@ablejoy it’s too late for that since a few Weeks ago I paid the admission fee for Fullerton and the orientation.

@SoCalDad2 colleges have their specific reasons for rejecting students. The admissions officers that read my application were put off by something. I don’t know what, but whatever it was it must have been crucial. Like I said I am not UC material, but I will try again in 2 years

@shredgnar‌ when did you appeal?

General Comments:
Happy with my results. Still waiting on Cal and MIT but for now I committed to UCLA! GO BRUINS!

sils6070: With your credentials and scores (good enough for Harvard and Stanford, easily, especially if Hispanic!), I am shocked that you are actually afraid that you could not have handled the UC academic stress!!! Something is very wrong here. Are you for real??? If you achieved those stellar results so far, how in the world could you have ANY doubts about not only “handling” but actually thrashing the academic requirements at any UC school? Your story sounds utterly bizarre. If true, it is a travesty of extreme injustice by all the UC schools.

@oliver007 I am telling the truth. As the weeks have gone, I’ve been asking friends and those who are close to me on what they did to get accepted to UC Berkeley and UCLA. They all had far more ECs than me, some even starting their own clubs, as well as their own charities. Others were apart of tournament winning sports teams at their schools. My salutatorian, who got into Cal, UCLA, San Diego and Irvine, had a better GPA and perfect SAT score. Plus, after reading articles and forums from UC dropouts, my fears of meeting the same fate were only influenced more. But like I have said in past posts, I will attend CSU Fullerton and work as hard as possible. In 2 years I will try again.
