Official UCR Fall 2014 Transfer Thread

Was able to attend the Highlander day today. There are good things to say about the Engineering Dept. as a whole. Definitely worth going down and checking out. 24/7 access to computer labs, recent grants, and most funded college within UCR. (I believe 5 Mil and 10 Mil). The nano labs were pretty cool. All and all very impressed with the BCOE and the transfer opportunities at UCR. Plus class sizes at the upper division level there is like a 17 to 1 student/teacher ratio. Orientation will be sometime in August.

Still Riverside though and it was in the 80’s already…Pros and Cons…Pros and Cons.

@kva019, I also attend the Highlander day and was impressed by the science department in general. I like how they present the opportunities upfront instead of having us looking around. Very impressed about their presentation today. I think I may SIR there myself.

@bjt223‌ how is ucr I got accepted to their business admin program

@firstgenstudent I probably not the best person to talk to about business admin program. I have no idea about their program. Preference, I would rather attend a school that will teach such as CSULB or CSUF than UCR in my opinion.

@firstgenstudent, UCR is a pretty good school, it’s really underrated. Its way better than CSULB or CSUF after all, it’s still a UC and has relatively more competitive applicants. Sure it’s not UCLA but it’s easier to get a better GPA at a CSU but UCR has a great business admin program.

Yeah I’m thinking of going there waiting on uci tho

lol soooo crazy… i still haven’t heard from UCR… decisions are coming out until the end of april right?

@kva019‌ did you really like the UC? i was thinking to go visit this weekend. They gave me lots of finical aid about 22,000 so i would only need to get loans for $10000. I have heard that its received many grants and that the labs and equipment are fairly new. I hear its UC best kept secret for engineering I’m also doing electrical engineering. The only thing for me is that i dropped a class after i got accepted i send them an email last monday when i got my acceptance but still haven’t heard back. I dropped a Computer science class i plan on taking it during the summer thought. How was the housing if i do attend i might live on campus the first semester.

@liljr415 From what I saw, yes. I only toured the Engineering Building and they were pretty up to date. I concur with your statement “I hear its UC best kept secret for engineering…” as that is what it seems. They should get back to you soon. I emailed them a couple weeks ago and once they give your email to your transfer counselor they are pretty quick to respond. Got to keep in mind that this is probably the busiest time of the year for them.

Don’t worry to much about the computer science class. I am missing one CS course (programming for microsystems) and they didn’t make a big deal out of it. Explain to them what is going on and you should be fine. At least it isn’t a Math or Physics course.

As for housing, I live fairly close (LA County) and was planning to live off campus with my gf so I didn’t bother going on a tour. All I can say is that the Housing Application for on campus housing is due May 10th. Anything after that it is not guaranteed. So you have to SIR first in order to fill out the housing application. They just built a new transfer apartment building. If i remember correctly the transfer living places are Glen Moor, Glen Moor 2 (<-- NEW), and something that starts with a P (Pendelton or some ■■■■). Off campus housing is pretty cheap (~800-1200 $) for the surrounding area.

Are you coming from out of state or something? Is that why your tuition so high? I am going to PM you my email. Feel free to reach out to me there. Be nice to get to know someone in the EE major as transfer students don’t have the luxury of being at the campus for the last two years like freshman

I was in the first wave, but I thought that maybe I should post these stats here. I know that last year I was looking for other applicants in my position. I am technically a transfer from an out-of-state, four year university, but I did this last 15 credits at a CCC. I applied last year, but none of the UCs accepted me because my math class didn’t transfer, so I didn’t meet minimum requirements! Turned out for the best though, and I got accepted on March 1st.

Decision (including term): Accepted Fall 2014
Intended Major: Russian Studies
UC GPA: 3.8
Major GPA: 4.0
IGETC: No

Which other UC’s did you apply to?
Applied: UCR, UCSD, UCLA
Accepted:UCR
Rejected:
Pending: UCSD, UCLA

I don’t think I’m going to go to Riverside. I’ve already taken more Russian language classes than they even offer, so I don’t really understand how they can have a Russian Studies program!

Hey everyone, so I have a dilemna, don’t know if anyone’s encountered this, but I don’t think I’ve been accepted yet (or rejected) but I got an alert that I received a Chancellor’s Scholarship Award and I need to SIR in order to receive it.

However, my message on the home page of my ucr says something like this:

“Looking for an exciting and challenging learning environment? You’ve chosen the right place! UC Riverside! With new classrooms and laboratories, world-renowned professors, and one of the most diverse and active student bodies in California, UC Riverside is a premier learning and research institution. You can get involved in research–work hand in hand with professors mapping the human genome, advancing nanotechnology or studying the influence of dance on different world cultures. At UC Riverside, it’s possible”

Does anybody have any ideas on what might be going on? I tried calling in but kept getting the automated message.

call the admissions office @willLEE

I have been following this thread for the past few months - It’s close - My Son was accepted yesterday

For me, no decision yet, I don’t know why

@kassa951 I haven’t heard back from them either. Pretty weird

@ragtime and kassa951:
The wait is tough, but at least there hasn’t been a rejection yet. Hang in there and good luck to you both my guess is that as some of the other UC’s make offers , some slots will open up as UCR admits choose other schools. - just a thought …

I still didn’t get any rejection or acceptance but the notification gonna end this month, I am really stressed, what is the reason they don’t let us know ? Even I called many times but no answer.

to us who are still waiting for a decision, maybe they’re waiting to see who SIR’s
