Official UCSB 2014 Transfer Thread

@mermaker: I’m not 100% sure but I’m pretty sure that even through the normal application process for UCSB that if you submit a regular app for admission it will be automatically rejected in march or so because of not having the English requirement completed by the Fall.

That said DaBaDee can always appeal and in May or so after grades have posted showing a passed English class they will more than likely accept the appeal.

I just wanted to put that information out there, and please correct me if I’m wrong.

@skalavera Okay, thank you. I also think I won’t get accepted for a TAG unfortunately. Do you recommend I apply anyway or just apply regular admission? Are my chances for regular admission at least good though?

@DaBaDee Yeah, you probably will not get accepted unless you complete at least one of those english courses. But given your gpa, I would do an appeal after the spring.

@Bryan330 I have completed one of them. ENGL-122 and ENGL-123 or ENGL-126 (that’s what we call them here in my CC), I have completed ENGL-122 on last spring but I’m not taking ENGL-123 and ENGL-126 this semester. I save it for last semester since I didn’t intend to applying for TAG before.

@Matt4200 it’s too complicated if I need to appeal and do those personal statement thing again lol. We need to write a personal statement again to appeal, don’t we?

Well, I think I’ll just go for UCD TAG then :s but I’ll definitely apply for UCSB since they have better ranking in my major (even better than UCLA :o)

It’s definitely not an automatic rejection. Although it is frowned upon. I didn’t have my math completed by Fall and I still got in even though Elroy Pinks (you’ll get to know him in the upcomig year; he pretty much handles all things transfer related at ucsb) told me I was going to be 100% rejected. I know a lot of people that got in even though they completed English during Spring.

@mermaker hmmm… If I don’t get “guaranteed” one then I’ll just apply for the normal. Should I give it a shot then? Actually I don’t want to go to Davis. Either Cal or SB lol

Either Cal or SB indeed! I’m only applying to those two. The only two worth attending! On some strange level, I hope Cal rejects me so I can go to UCSB and party it up and forget to study for exams. On the other hand, I could have a legit career. Well, whatever happens, happens.

@sega18

Lmao I’m applying to UCSB UCLA USC UCSD and UCI.

I hope I get rejected from all except UCSB so I have a legit excuse to go there LOL

Okay so Im doing tag for ucsb Im a psych major and have a 3.3 and I finished my English class’s and i have a quick question !!!
So I took statistics at ucla extension and my community college offers it for students it’s a transferable course but would that count as the UC math that Santa Barbara wants you to finish by fall cus I did it last spring and got an A and everything and its UC transferbale and competed the math requirements in the IGETC form.
I’m Just freakin out …will they reject my tag because of that?

If it is Statss XL10 at UCLA then it is ok for UCM and TAG for UCSB

Chance me?
Major: Mechanical Engineering
GPA: 3.9
Units completed by Spring: 83
I’ve done 2 research internships related to my major & I do a bunch of community work through the physics club at my CC.
Extras:
First in family to attend college & graduate high school
Hispanic
Born in Mexico (permanent resident status)

Thanks a lot guys…

Just FYI I’m applying to Cal, USC, UCLA, UCD, & Cal Poly as well

I am tagging as a biochemistry major for Fall 2014, I meet the gpa requirements (3.36) but I was wondering if I will be automatically denied without finishing organic chemistry? I will only be able to finish the 1st semester of organic chemistry :frowning: Also, does anyone know if there are any schools where they offer organic chemistry during the summer so I could possibly enter UCSB with finishing O-Chem?

UCSB is my top choice, also applying to UCSD and USC (public health major for these schools though)

Did everyone submit their TAG to Santa Barbara on this thread?

So it turns out that UCLA has a major called “Financial Actuarial Mathematics.” Ever since I learned of the existence of this beast of major, my desires have changed. I don’t think I could turn down “Financial Actuarial Mathematics”.

However, my UCSB Tag is going through right now. By the way, does anyone know when the “TAG Cycle” is over? I want to update my expected spring coursework.

hi there, I’m interested in engineering majors and want to know which one is easier to get in (my gpa is kinda low…). i’m apply for material science major or material engineering major for other uc but it seems like ucsb does not offer material engin… i visited the campus and really like ucsb!!! really wanna get in… any advises?

my major is computer science and in the assist website it say:
Required base preparation courses:
-Math 3A, 3B, 4A, 4B
-Physics 1, 2
-Computer Science 16, 24

now if I don’t complete two of these courses, will my application get rejected automatically?!

If you don’t get the Math yes, the other two you have a lot more wiggle room, they may let you take those at UCSB or they may request you take them in Spring, or offer you a conditional acceptance asking that you complete those prior to transfer, meaning spring or summer.

Anyone know the average acceptance gpas for bio/chem majors?

UCSB unlike UCLA doesn’t post stats but from looking at other posts from last year I think the average for UCSB for bio/chem is 3.3-3.45

What are the pros and cons of UCSB?
