***Official UIUC Class of 2019 Applicant Thread***

Has anyone gotten the engineering scholarship they said they’d send out early March?

The only ones I’ve seen are the non-renewable $3-5k ones that A couple of kids around here received (in state). Haven’t heard of any others being awarded, although there aren’t as many if those given out.

For those of you who visited the campus, what did you guys think about it? How’s the student life on campus?

IM IN! OOS
in for LAS
SAT: 1900
WGPA: 3.5

A friend of mine received the $3K non-renewable and was pretty upset about it. He received a $50K per year scholarship from UMich.

@TodaysEinstein‌ The campus is nice but about 4-5 blocks outside of the Campus area is on the ghetto side. The student life is great since there are all sorts of people, restaurants and entertainment.

What major did your friend get accepted to?

$50k from Michigan? That is amazing and I’d imagine hard to turn down.

Could be fin aid from UMich.

In any case, I’m not sure why your friend is upset, @YunSyed‌. Getting to go to UMich for nearly free is a pretty darn good deal and some schools are richer and some are poorer so some can offer more money than others. That’s just the way it is.

50k per year ?! Wow, so it’s basically free for him, 40k tuition 10k room and board.

Michigan is 55k, so he would have to take 2k loans and 3k work study

Hope this can help for people waiting
Got in, in Feb Undeclared Major.
State: New Jersey
SAT: 1700
UWGPA: 3.4
WGPA: 4.45
E.C: Had a ton

U of I offered me 35000 in f.A. 12000 are from loans. I applied with a 24 ACT 5.2GPA though

6k/yr scholarship, 0 financial aid. Looks like I’m going to have to cross off UIUC.
:frowning:

Could someone tell me the course flexibility that is offered in UIUC? In which year does declaring the major becomes compulsory? Although the admission is given for a branch of engineering, do students have a chance to change their major, during the course?

@cheemu, not sure when it becomes compulsory but you have to fulfill the requirements of a major, so if you switch too late, you may have to stay longer.

You could try to change major, but getting in to some majors is no sure thing (for a few, it’s really hard; for many, it is easy, but they may not be majors you are interested in, like history or classics). What major did you get admitted in to and what major do you want to switch to?

@PurpleTitan, thank you. Got into Mech, that I asked for. Just wanted to know if the option of switching majors was available at UIUC.

Where do the scholarship advices show? There is the two page letter with nothing else. Do I have to set up the passwords etc and then sign in? Thanks.

You will be informed via email.

Eventually it will be linked to your myIllini account, in the Financial Aid Self-Service section.

There is no addition password besides the one you need to access myIllini.

Do students need to submit a FAFSA to qualify for scholarships? Are they only need based?

FAFSA is required for anything that is need based. It is not required for anything that is not need based. Your application for admission acts as your application for all non need based scholarships.
