^So what made you transfer from NYU to here? ;)

^ well, I’m in the drama program here (as you can probably guess from my username haha) and there are a lot of budget cuts and ‘new directions for the program’ that I’m not happy with. And I went to the summer program @ michigan and loved it so… here I come, Ann Arbor :)

Welcome to the theatre school! You’ll love it here :)

thanks! I’m super excited!

right now I’m debating where I want to live- in the dorms and be stuck in Northwood III or opt for Off-Campus like the 411 Lofts or the Courtyards or something like that…

Welcome to michigan! =]

I received my acceptance into the Biomed Eng program and I am heartsick that I cannot accept as I cannot afford to go.

I am an international Canadian student and am stuck between a rock and a hard place. Savings only enough to cover for 2 years of tuition. I am from a single parent home, mom will subsidize but still not enough. Canadian loans (OSAP) not applicable to US colleges and US fin aid/loan cannot be attained without a US co-signer. Scholarships in US not applicable to foreigners and scholarships in Canada not applicable to US colleges.

This sucks. I worked so hard, got accepted and I cannot go… I applied because this was where I want to go.

Sigh.

CBNSue, your facts might need some rechecking. I was under the impression when speaking with OSAP that the FED portion of the loans could indeed be granted for U.S. schools on an accredited list of which UMich is one.
That is not to say they would necessarily be enough, but please don’t give up until you check into it further. Also, before chosing to attend UMich, my formerly Canadian son had looked at Ontario schools. Despite being a perm res. of Mich, FAFSA (the us version of OSAP) would have loaned the $5500 to him to attend ONT schools. So really, I think there is more reciprocity than you might know of. Talk to the financial aid dept at length about it, explain fully, and let them look into it for you. Don’t pass on the acceptance just yet.
Also, there are additional Canadian student fed grants for which you might be eligible.
Good luck.

PS. Here’s a link showing UMich as an approved school for the blended Can Fed student loan from the OSAP page itself! See! It’s not over yet ; )

Of course, the real issue is do you honestly want to spend or borrow $45,000 U.S. (out of state tuition and housing) EACH year to go to undergrad when you have a host of very very strong Canadian schools, each of which you can attend for about $15k a year, and then save your $ for GRAD school at a place like UMich. Truthfully, you are very fortunate to have the Canadian choices and pricing available to you, along with some world class programs. Eg. schools like McGill and U of T, UBC and sometimes Western (some programs) rank on the same international scale as U Mich, though perhaps not as high, but they’re still on the continuum of excellence.

My son loves UMich and in his program it is awesome, but if we still lived in Canada, I’d be delighted and blessed to, for example, have sent him to McGill or U of T’s music school. We’d have gotten 4 years for the price of two and we’re instate!

He has applied to Canadian Unis as well. However, the biomed eng. program (as a major) in limited to only several Unis. He has been offered scholarships at a couple of local unis in our city but they are not very good schools at all.

He has applied to UoT, McGill, UBC, Queens (but McGill and Queens do not have biomed eng at all) and a few other “safe” unis.

UMich is his dream school and he has the aspirations. But he thinks is going to be UBC with the competition in the upper end schools. Canada has some really good schools, but not all the programs. Med School in Canada has limited placement for its students as well and there is a very very long wait to get into med school.

We are still waiting for decision from all the schools. Until then…

I just got accepted this morning, haven’t been able to wipe the grin off my face yet. I’m an international student (Hong Kong) and also a legacy. My brother graduates this year, and absolutely loved it, so I’m hoping that I will too. Not completely sure if I’ll be going, since I’m still waiting on my other decisions, but at the moment, this is my absolute top school :)

Go Wolverines!

yo collegebound did you get it through email or mail cuz i live in hong kong too. and when did u apply? thanks

Anymore Ross Pre-Admits?

have to decide between michigan and carnegie mellon. but im soo excited!

Hey chrono, guess what? Michigan’s got an objectivist club on campus.
I was afraid for a second I’d be the only one, lol.

^^^
No chance. UM admissions checks this website periodically to find posters that post “chance me” posts on other threads. Those people are removed from consideration because clearly they do not meet the high personal standards of an UM student. You might want to try TOSU.

They don’t meet the “high standards” simply because they want some critique on their application? Weak.

^^^
They don’t meet the “high standards” simply because they can’t restrain themselves from hijacking threads just to satisfy their immediate need for some critique on their application.

Well, Jeeze. Excuse me for wanting some input from people who actually go to the school. No need to get all *****y about it.
