Official UNC 2014 Applicants

My SAT scores say otherwise…lol

I have confidence that if UNC is the school for me I will be accepted.

dmoore11 it’s nice to have optimism but things don’t always work that way lol

And corey91 I think that’s great spirit - applicants should realize that the admissions process is as much about finding the college to fit the student as finding the student to fit the college - there are many cases that when you’re not admitted to an institution you wouldn’t be happy there anyway.

You have to speak your acceptance into existance, think positive, and good things will happen. If things dont go the way you want to in the end, then you can think realistically,

I agree with most of you. I’m really nervous for Chapel Hill, because it is, along with UCLA, my hardest school to get into. It doesn’t help to have two genius sisters who got into every school they applied to, including Duke, Stanford, and the Chapel Hill Honors Program.

The fact I didn’t get a likely letter is upsetting.
But at least I’d be very happy to attend one of the schools I HAVE been accepted to. (:

I called the admissions office and they said that EA decisions wouldn’t be released until January 30, no earlier :(

ugh. But then again, we never know. They can actually finish with all of the people earlier and release earlier.

They might actually surprise us.

As a Raleigh resident, I’ve heard from people at school who know the admissions officers that since they’re using a new computer program and such things are way behind. They were supposed to finish applications two days ago (1/4/10) but are behind schedule…Supposedly at one point we were supposed to hear early around January 15th, but now it is back to around the 30th :(

I applied early action and I am counting down to Jan 30 the wait is killing me. Just wondering where I stand compared to other people. I know the admissions people said they love IB ( so i think I’m good sort of nervous about a C I made sophomore year in physics) but oh well can’t change the past!
Good Luck Everyone :)

Does anyone know how long they send out likely letters for?

I think they should be about done with the likely letters because the deadline for registering for Tar Heel Shadow is January 18th. People shouldn’t sweat if they didn’t get one though, only a small percentage of accepted students do. On the other hand, I am so nervous about Scholars Day! I really want to be considered for a scholarship, but more importantly I really want to get into the Honors Program. All this waiting is killing me; I don’t know how people manage it!

Does anyone get excited/frightened about how they probably have already made a desicion about you? It’s just sitting there in their computer…

Anyone good at hacking? lol :D

Well, I just checked the blog, and they said without a doubt decisions will be made on the 31st.

I know they have a new information system and all, but it cannot possibly be hard to give a holoistic review while still having an early deadline. Other colleges can manage(NC State even had theirs early haha)

This is also a huge factor. I am a wake county resident. I sent my transcript through our online manager on November 1; they finally received it this week. They say it won’t affect my chances, but I have to wonder…

:(

Yay UNC! I’m an in-state applicant, but I’m still really excited to hear back from them! The other schools I applied to are mostly ivy, but I really think I would be happy at UNC too.

Question: Do you think there are lower standards for sending out likely letters to in-staters than OOS applicants? Obviously it is easier to get in when you are in-state, so do you think they use the same thought when sending out likely letters? I did receive one, but I’m not sure how much it really means since I am in-state and the expectations are lower anyway.

Oh, and similar questions about Scholarship Day have been asked on the Admissions Blog also. Here’s one of the direct quotes from Julie, “Yes, the timeline for Scholarship Day has been moved back slightly this year to accommodate our new notification deadline. We should be sending out the invitations in late January. Thanks.”

Sooooo, yeah…more waiting :)

Have you been invited to Scholars Day alreay tarheel151?

No, i meant that i was nervous about being invited. UNC is my first choice, so i am really hoping to be.

Man, I was looking at students who got accepted last year to UNC on facebook and probably 1/2 the class at the North Carolina School of Math and Science got into UNC. Basically if you apply from NCSMS you have a much higher chance of getting in than another in-stater with high stats. -sigh-

Why couldn’t I have been a genius, lol.

^Actually, I’ve heard quite the opposite. They expect more out of NCSMS students, and they have a lower chance of getting into colleges because of that. At least how it’s been put to me by students there.

Really? Because from my exploring(stalking) on facebook there were many students (more than 20) that got into UNC and about a dozen into Ivy’s. Though I’m sure the whole atmosphere there is very competative.

From the local public schools (mind I am in Durham) we have about 3-5 students from each school and 1/2 of those are URM. (not racist just a fact)

Idk I just sometimes get frustrated with the whole college process thing. Mainly because I know that some of the students they accept will flunk out their first semester and they would have taken a spot that I could’ve had.
