Tons of people never go “officially.” My friend showed me around and let me stay in his dorm when I went. No stupid tour guides or anything of that crap. I think I got the better side of UNC anyway.

EDIT: ***, why do they take that into account? @ below.
Maybe that’s important for OOS residents. But it’s much easier for IS residents to go and do it themselves, esp. if you know people there.

I called and asked an admissions counselor because I had already done a campus tour/info session as a freshman applicant and they said that they do take it into consideration, so I ended up doing the transfer info session as well. I sincerely doubt it makes a significant impact, though.

I’m not sure why, lol - I suppose they feel it is indicative of your interest (to some degree, anyway). They kept track of it on the UNC Portal up until the application deadline, with a link to click and it would show your completed tour(s).

Edit - Dunno if it’s only relative for OOS. I’m in state but didn’t think to ask if that made a difference.

It may not necessarily be the tour aspect, but the info session. That’s the only plausible explanation I can think of.

They just regurgitate all the info. session crap through the stuff they send you and through TSOP and such, I’m guessing. Seems rather pointless.

Lol, that’s good news to me. I felt like I HAD to go visit if I really intended on moving there. My visit was a great crash course in the triangle transit system, and the tour was good, but they didn’t have the transfer info session. Getting lost on campus before hand was a good way to find places though.

Meh, I only know what I was told. Again, I really don’t think it makes a big difference, otherwise it would have been stressed in the application or on the website.

haha it didnt go anywhere im just saying that since i didnt visit officially, i probably blew it hence the “there goes my app” (like out the window)

its still physically there on my student center though haha

hahaha “it’s still physically there”… yeah i haven’t done a campus tour either, but i don’t think you should worry about little things like that. at the end of the day it all comes down to the GPA mainly, test scores, and essays…

I wanted to have potential roommates by the time Friday rolled around. Looks like it might not happen that way. Only got like 2 or 3 people…crud. Would like to shoot in housing app. Generally have learned good spots go quick.

I don’t think there are any “good spots” at UNC, lol… from the dorms I’ve been in, all of the rooms look like prison cells! That’s the one thing I’d miss about my current school - carpeted floors, big windows, and suite style bathrooms for all halls. Soo nice.

Depends on how the residents make their room look. I’ve seen some that look more inviting – and are – than my room at home. It’s easier to achieve with loft-style beds, anywho.

Ughh…i will not miss my dorm. so little and gross.

but i will miss the possibility of living in StuVi 2.

if you guys have free time, check it out. its brand new this year and was named the nicest dorm in america. if each suite was sold as an apartment, it would go for over $1,000,000 - crazy. they’re impossible to get into though unless you’re a senior:(

Yeah, that’s true. One of my friends here has an amazing room due to the fact that her and her roommate are both art majors. Barely any blank wall space at all.

I’m not waiting for any other schools either.

EDIT - @crand91 ~ Wow! That looks more like an expensive hotel than a dorm room.

Will go to UNC if accepted, with 100% assurance. Mind keeps thinking about not getting accepted and staying here. Really not too bad. Will be able to keep a lot of money and save for a new car or something.

Same - definitely going to UNC if I get in. Otherwise I’ll stay here for a semester, work on improving my GPA and apply for Davidson’s spring term. Really annoying that UNC doesn’t accept spring transfers. I will technically be a junior this fall because I have 51 transferable hours (acquired 21 hours from another UNC school while in HS) but UNC won’t count me as a junior until I’ve spent at least one semester there. Applying again next year would mean putting 10+ hours to waste, so this is really my last chance. :(
