official unc transfer thread

WOW! That's great news---- ! Thank you!

Thank god for that! I really doubt I could take the suspense much longer! :(

yeah, I've been freaking out since January.

yea..come to think of it i did get it later than most people. has anyone been able to create an onyen?

even though i know im gonna get rejected, as my stats are no where near you guys', it'll be a relief knowing my decision and not stressing out for another week and a half

Decisions were posted online last year at 4pm on Thursday, April 12th. If you want proof, go here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-north-carolina-chapel-hill/313768-transfer-decisions-24.html?highlight=transfer

Go to the 4th page of this thread and you will see what else I figured out from reading that thread. Take note that most of the indicators before Thursday, April 12th did not happen until Tuesday, April 10th last year, which would equate to Tuesday, April 8th of this year, which is not until tomorrow, which is why no one can see anything... so calm down!

where are you guys thinking about living if you are admitted? i live in raleigh, i will be transferring as a junior, but i was thinking about living on campus.

Granville.

I want/hope to live on campus. I actually live in Chapel Hill, but I'm definitely not staying at home. Does anybody know how housing will work out?

i think i read that a lot of transfers end up in ram village. i've looked at the website and it looks nice, but i don't really know that much about it.

Hi. Been watching the forums for a while, decided to finally post my stats. What do you think?

HS gpa > 4.0
College gpa: 3.0 (Very Strong upward grade trend. Basically one bad semester freshman year and the rest A's)
Major gpa: 3.8/4.0
EC: Debate Tourney Judge and Founder/President of Student Organization, pro bono tutor, etc.
65 hours transferring as Junior
Essay: Medium-Strong?
Family Alum: Grandfather
Applied as freshman and was wait listed

You think I will be considered with that 3.0 ugh...

Also, has anyone made personal contacts at the admissions office?
I went there a couple months ago and one of the admissions staff has seriously helped me out the entire way i.e. answered all my questions and handled my application personally. Was wondering if any of you had similar experiences. I am extremely impressed to be honest about how much care it seems like they put into our applications. If I get in I am likely to send him a personal Christmas gift. Any thoughts on all this?

Looks like they fixed all the preemptive "indicators" from last year. I don't have any new tabs or anything.

nothing for me either. everything looks exactly the same.

Yep, no new tabs for me either.

Out of curiosity, anybody able to make an onyen today? I still can't...

no onyen. did anyone check their applicant central, and that's what they mean by tab? i have no new tab on either AC or my UNC homepage.

Yes, I have checked both the app central and the homepage. Nothing for me. :(

No, new tabs for me either. Also, I went and talked to a admissions staff member and asked the question, "What is most important to the application?" Here's what he said: (Junior Transfer only)
-College performance much more important than HS
-SAT's don't matter
-Grade Trends are looked at, as well as course load difficulty more important than just gpa
-In essay, they want to "hear your voice and get to know you" (whatever that means)
-Intended major supposedly not important
-As for EC, they want to get the feeling that you are utilizing your time and not just slugging around
-Work experience is a definite +
-Family alumni important in immediate family

Anyways hopes this puts a lot of your minds at ease, GOOD LUCK TO ALL!

what is applicant central?

The tab is supposed to show up on your UNC homepage next to "my home" if I remember correctly. As for App Central, you should be looking for any new icons. Nothing has changed for me. I can't check for the onyen stuff because I already have it from the summer classes I have taken.

I guess we won't get the "signs" like last year. Ahh well, only a couple more days I guess.
