Official University of Chicago 2020 Waitlisted Applicants Thread

you probably wanna keep it DL.

it’s like saying I WON THE LOTTERY but winning only $5

@Bean98

@fsdklfjsdflkds lmao thanks I can feel that

@Kasami I’m also an english major, and have applied to Yale, Emory and Northwestern :stuck_out_tongue: My other schools are Harvard, UChicago (of course) and 2 schools from my native country.

I’m definitely not going to take this waitlist thing lying down. I feel as though I’ve sort of been given a second chance to make an impression on the admissions officers, though it’s kind of unfortunate that this should come at a time when I’m so close to finals. Definitely doesn’t help the stress.

@FukaEri Oh wow lots of overlap haha! I’m glad to see another English major though I always feel like there aren’t many around. Where are you from, if you don’t mind sharing?

Same here. I definitely want to do all I can to at least increase my chances of getting off the waitlist, but I’m not sure what yet. I mean, there’s never really a standard procedure for this sort of thing. And it’s not like I’ve achieved anything extraordinary this past year.

I’m punching myself for not applying to Northwestern. :frowning:

I applied for Neuroscience to Uchicago, UCLA, UC Berkeley, Princeton, UPenn, Columbia and some others ( olleges that I wouldn’t be that excited to go to if I got in) : \ Out of curiosity, did anyone else on this thread apply to JHU??

Punching myself for not just ticking off all the campuses on the UC application WHY did I not? It wasn’t any extra work? Application fees would’ve been astronomical though.

Also applied to Princeton, Duke, Harvard, UPenn and Stanford. Does anyone have stats on what the acceptance rate is for waitlisted RD’s?

I put all my effort into UC and rushed my northwestern app lolol @soph1112

@Kasami I’m originally from Pakistan, though I was raised abroad. While I agree that there isn’t really a standard procedure, I feel like that’s kind of liberating in the sense that you could do anything and it might help. You could try showing your continued achievement in an area you’re already pretty good at, or enter a national level competition you think you might have a shot at, or just show improvement in your grades – and if UChicago is where you’re meant to be, they’ll see it, despite the current deferral! Which is why I’m not as bummed out right now as I probably should be haha

@Kasami I definitely wanted to apply to all of the UCs just to see how many I could get into but my parents did not approve of the cost/idea haha

Do we have to send third quarter grades in?

I am probably the least deserving person of a wait list invitation at one of the most prestigious institutions in the world, but right now I could not be happier. I thought I was going to get flat out rejected but miracles do happen. Good luck to everyone else and stay positive!

@jk1998 I don’t think so…if you go on the uchicago admissions twitter they have a link to a message for all applicants and in that message there is no mention of needing to send in extra materials other than the brief note if you have been waitlisted

Joining the club, waitlisted as well

Am I the only person here that has UChicago as their number one choice? I just applied to Chicago and my states best school(UT) and now I kind of wish I looked around to some other schools. I applied for Econ btw.

Waitlisted international applicant here. I have no idea what to think

@ballerina1205 I applied to JHU for Neuroscience too  and to the other schools u listed! (But rejected for Columbia ED) seems like we’re in the same boat!

@FukaEri Very true but unfortunately, I’ll admit I’ve been a bit of a slacker this year (maybe UChicago sensed that lol) so I can’t say I have much to show for these past few months. But I will send a letter of continued interest of sorts and hope for the best…good luck to us all in these next few weeks as decisions keep rolling out!

I’ve accepted my spot on the waitlist. Not sure what to think, but keeping my hopes up. Good luck everyone!
