Official University of Chicago Transfer Fall 2009

Oh thank you so much, stewartudall. I am hoping things work out for you as well!

Let us hope that all this positivity helps us out in the long run.

hey Rhode. i meant the first e-mail about the course evaluations.

I did not get the housing mail. hope we can get in the U of C.

I think those who have already got the housing letters are 9 out of 10th in. Andre said it was a mistake, cuz they might still add someone in or kick someone out of list.
Waiting is not easy…

didn’t receive a housing email; figure it’s either because I am rejected or because they hadn’t received my FAFSA and aid applications declaring my intention to live on campus yet, so Housing had no way of knowing me.

The former possibility hurts.

Don’t give up yet people.

Thats an interesting point Anxtrans. Out of curiosity, is there anyone who submited a fasfa but did not receive the housing email? or is there anyone who did not submit the fasfa but received the housing email? If so, then perhaps Anxtrnas is onto something…

I turned in FAFSA and CSS form, yet I did not get the housing email. I thought about it during the weekends, and I am ready for rejection.

I turned in FAFSA, but the U of C aid I didn’t turn in until recently…in fact probably past the deadline lol…and I didn’t get a housing email. I honestly think that the transfer of credit evaluations just mean that they are still trying to decide on certain people, and if one person has more transferable credits that perhaps apply to chicago’s “core” program than another person, then they’d be more likely to be admitted

Just to add some data, I did not submit a FAFSA, but did get a housing email.

Alright Chihopeful, thank you. This means that the housing email was not tied to the fasfa. But that doesn’t mean that the people who got the housing email are on any particular list. I honestly don’t know why I received that email and its impossible for me to figure this out definitively. May can’t come soon enough!!

Can you tell that a am a bit of a pessimist. I can’t just accept that the email maybe a sign of good things to come. I don’t know, I just think that its a bad idea to create false hope…

well, I brought the FAFSA up only as it relates to me – I know for a fact they probably hadn’t received it by then because I’d spoken to someone about something on the 15th and they told me they hadn’t received my FAFSA yet, or other aid documents.

I am prepared for whatever may come.

As for you, Rhode – you need to stop worrying. The email was either a premature sign of good things to come or just a mistake. It’s not a bad sign – it’s either good or nothing. But don’t worry about it.

I do believe that they’ll have results out this week but that’s just a wild guess on my part. I’d be surprised if they really did take all the way until May. We’ll see.

Just faxed my course info to Chicago today…best of luck to everyone!

I agree with Rhode. Chicago is my #1, and taking that as a good sign would just be setting me up to feel awful if I don’t make it…

I got the credit e-mail, but not the housing one…but, it seems like mistakes like that e-mail happen pretty often–anyone hear about UCSD accidentally sending thousands of false acceptance letters out? So, I’m trying not to sweat it too much…eep, just a few more weeks until we find out for sure. I really hope I get in, I feel like my stats give me a pretty good chance & U of C is just a perfect fit for me, but their acceptance rates are so low, you never really know…ugh. Good luck everyone.

I didn’t apply for FAFSA, and didn’t get the housing email. But then, if the housing office decided to send me the notification email, how would they know my intention to live on or off campus? Are all transfers required to live on campus? I’m just curious.

More practically, I want to know exactly what kind of descriptions I need to send to Chicago. They explicitly say not to send the catalogue(I understand it to mean course syllabus), but only the brief descriptions of the courses taking right now.

Will the course title/code/level of difficulty/grade suffice for their needs? Or do I need to add some attached papers explaining what courses they really were?

I think they just mean don’t send a physical copy of the catalog and make them look for each of the courses. Just type in or copy paste the individual course descriptions in your course catalog and print them out.

Youch: as for the housing offers thing, I’m pretty sure at some point on the common app
(or some subsequent application material) there was a question that asked if you were planning on living on campus or off. Does anyone else remember that?

Yup, I definitely remember indicating that I want to live on campus.

Last year’s transfer blog is still up:
[Chicago’s Uncommon Transfer Application](http://uncommontransferapplication.blogspot.com/)
The April 16th entry says: “Early action transfer decisions are available online”
Maybe this year housing expected a mid-April date to contact some newly admitted transfer students? (The “regular decision” transfer admissions didn’t occur last year until May 20th.)
