Official University of Chicago Transfer Fall 2009

Does anyone know if they send a confirmation of some form when they receive your fax? I’d like to make sure mine went through…

I don’t think they do…but I’m not 100% positive about that.
on a side note, I was looking at the 2008 transfer thread, and it seems like decisions didn’t come out until mid May, like 5/16, unless the person was an EA transfer, then it came out mid April…
oh and the credit evaluations mean absolutely nothing for sure cuz there was a girl talking about it on last year’s thread, and she ended up getting rejected (went to Cornell instead)

last year’s system was entirely different. no chance in hell we won’t hear by mid-May

hey PersonGuy34. The only way to be certain that your fax was received is to call the office to which it was faxed. Good luck.

Waller: Thanks. So you mean, no detailed course syllabi for credit evaluations, but only the descriptions? Did you already send out yours? I’ve completed the form and am planning to add two or three more pages for brief descriptions of the 44 credits I took -that will be in total of five pages, I guess. Would this be enough?

Youch: I’m sort of curious: Do you consider the transfer credit form to be a factor in the admissions decision? From the way the email was worded, it appeared as though the office was focused on getting them in more so that they could “hit the ground running” (as it were) once decisions were released, rather than determine who deserved to be admitted.

Yup, like I said, I just copy pasted the course descriptions without anything more specific.
But I agree with Girigiri; I wouldn’t worry too much about it because if it did have significant weight on the admissions decision then they would have requested it as part of our application.

girigiri and waller: Well, I was like half and half. I thought that credits I took won’t much be a factor in determining my admission, but this is perhaps the last thing I can do to improve my chance. I have some unusual credit records(took some senior courses in the freshman and sophomore year- they were not honor classes), so I need to give them some more info about the ones I took. Anyway, thanks a lot for the help!

I think that we are definitely going to have to wait until mid-may to get admissions decisions…

Rhode, what makes you think that?

I hope we have to wait. Given the amount of time I spent on the application process, I’d appreciate an appropriately detailed review before decisions are made.

Hey 20sticks, no particular reason, just a gut feeling.

I think over 100 applicants will be admitted this year.

@TransferAdmitted
What makes you think that to be the case?

i think around 100 admitted as well.
on the website, explicitly states they are looking for around 40 transfers this Fall.
and since the yield will probably be lower than their historic yields due to financial crisis, they will probably admit around 100.
this is pure speculation

and I also think decisions will be posted/mailed the first week of May. the email by Andre about the housing email error said early May. i would imagine that they would give out a conservative date to avoid phone calls around may 10th asking about the apps

100 out of (the historical data of) 500 applicants?
I guess 20% is just way high for a school as prestigious as Chicago. Of course this doesn’t mean I’d prefer a higher acceptance rate lol

Have any ideas for other schools as well? Will they accept more students just because their funds have dried up?

Actually, this is not the case.

On Chicago’s website, it says that they plan to enroll 50 students, not 40.

“Chicago is committed to enrolling an outstanding group of 50 transfer students in fall 2009.”

Also, there is little chance that Chicago will accept over 100 students. According to CollegeBoard, these were Chicago’s stats for last year:

Transfer Students

* Number of transfers who applied for fall term: 674

 • Number of transfers who were admitted for fall term: 88
 • Number of transfers who enrolled for fall term: 45

Last year, they accepted 88 people and 45 enrolled. However, admissions has been getting more and more competitive. So in order to hit the 50 that they want, they probably won’t accept more than 88 people (if more than 88 at all).

Sorry for the negativity, I just don’t anyone to be misinformed and have false hopes.

well, i still think that they’ll admit a little above 88, probably not 100, but in the middle somewhere. which is sitll a fair amount : )

Any news? I just can’t wait…
