I’m not sure what you mean by its reputation being hard to avoid…its reputation as a tough purely academic institution? Socially, IMO, Chicago has got to have one of the most unique and qwirky student bodies in the country. One of the most exciting parts of Chicago (for me) is the student body. From what I’ve seen, most people there are just really intense about everything they do, from classes to scav hunt, from studying to having fun. Dunno if that helps >_>

so…why are you guys going to Chicago? :)

can we live off campus? sorry i keep asking this…

hey, I think that we are permitted to live off campus, the only students who may not live off campus are entering freshmen.
Good luck!

Thanks Rhode.
I was only asking because my goal in living off-campus would be to live CLOSER to the main quad (most off-campus apartments are right off the main quad!) and to pay less for my room (they are also cheaper than a lot of on-campus options). I want to meet all of you (and we will during orientation, which I’ve heard is amazing… it’s called “O-Week”), but I’m sure you all feel like I do, in that you want to branch out and not feel like “the transfer student” all year. Living together would be amazing because we all have so much in common (especially the fact that we are all going to be new to UChicago shows that we must all have a lot of personality traits in common), but I also think living with current UChicago students could also be a really positive experience. I’m poking around seeing what I find, but if I don’t find anything then I’ll definitely send in an on-campus housing request.

hi cookie
Does this officially mean that you chose UChicago over Columbia? because if you did, I’m so delighted for you

hey cookiemonster
I completely understand. I would prefer to live closer to campus as well, but at the same time stony would also be fine for me. And i know exactly what you mean about the whole “transfer student” thing; I want to integrate myself into the school and become a UChicago student rather than simply a student who transferred to UChicago.

hey did you all receive your finaid package yet?

Yes transferaccepted, I’ll definitely be at UChicago this fall. Everyone should join the facebook group!

I’m with Cookiemonster on this, join the Facebook group!!!

has anyone received their FinAid package yet?

yeah i have. they hooked me up pretty well…

hmm, ok. I haven’t received mine yet, but that may just be because I am farther away from Chicago than you are.

i got mine. they awarded me aid for 10 quarters, but on my credits sheet it says i will need to be at chicago for 11-12 q’s.

yeah i got aid for 7 quarters, they said i need to be here for 7-8 q’s. not too bad since i have junior standing; but i think i’m going to end up going to cornell next year anyway because more credits transfer there…

I haven’t received mine! I’m in California but honestly I’m worried that I might not get sophmore standing

This is the most depressing news that I have read in a long time:
[O?Neill to leave admissions office inJune - The Chicago Maroon](<a href=“Delays keep Proof from silver screen – Chicago Maroon”>Delays keep Proof from silver screen – Chicago Maroon)

I was so looking forward to hearing one of his famous convocation speeches, this is disheartening to say the very least :(

UGH I have not received my credentials yet. anyone else in the same boat? :(

What do you mean your credentials?

sorry what I meant was my credit evaluation
