I HAVEN’T GOTTEN MY DECISION YET!!!
Michigan is my 2nd choice school. I got deferred from my first choice (Duke)…so if I don’t get into Michigan I will be devastated.
My college counselors think I will DEFINITELY get in. Everyone else thinks I will too. I have 34 ACT, hardest courseload at my school, good grades, decent ECs, amazing recs, creative/amazing essays. Like if I don’t get in I will hate life so much it’s not even funny.

Wow, we are quite same! I got defered by Duke,too! I really love Duke and I hope I can get an offer this time!

ACCEPTED!!!

hot damn!

is it possible to still hear tonight?

SO EXCITED!! After getting denied from my first choice, this is amazing. I will still apply to my regular decision schools, but if all else fails, i’ll be super happy going to umich!

@karry123, You haven’t gotten your UMich decision either?! I love Duke too but I mean the acceptance rate is pretty low for deferees so I’m obviously not expecting to end up getting in. Duke accepted <1/3, deferred about 1/3, and rejected the rest. They reject uncompetitive/unqualified applicants outright, so the fact that we got deferred means they saw something in us that made them want to take another look come spring. UMich has a 50% acceptance rate, and while it’s lower for OOS students, I just don’t understand why good students like us would get deferred or rejected.

I havent either and Duke is actually my second choice behind NC but Id really love to get into Michigan bc I don’t think I’ll get into UNC or Duke. AND I STILL HAVENT HEARD A DECISION BUT SOMEONE AT MY SCHOOL DID! And I’m out of state

@massgirl92

hi, i remember seeing you on the duke forum so its funny were both now on here…seeing that you havent gotten your michigan decision makes me POSITIVE there are more acceptances for many people on the way, i feel like its pretty unlikely michigan wouldnt accept duke deferrees

To those who got deferred/rejected: truth is, college apps are just a big crap shoot–it’s like rolling dice who gets in. Some people much worse than you will get accepted. Why?? Who knows? I went to Mich Law School and while lots of people there were brilliant, I sometimes looked around at some of those students and thought, “How did YOU get in here???” I mean, honestly. Do people just lie on their applications??

@bear1993

Agreed! I know you were a fellow deferree because you were on the thread for Duke deferrees. So you haven’t received a decision from UMich yet either??

@Karry123 : I got my decision. I’m a US citizen residing in India though.

Now to wait for when Ross Preferred Admission releases!

I don’t believe the whole “Thursday is for deferrals, Friday is for acceptances, Monday is for rejects” theory one bit.

Someone who gets deferred from Duke should definitely be getting into Michigan. At the very very least, a deferral.

And there WERE acceptances on “deferral day” and I bet there were some deferrals & rejects on “acceptance day” as well. The fact is, most people are embarrassed to post deferrals and rejects. And CC itself, for the most part, consists of very qualified, often over qualified students. So of course a lot of acceptances are going to be posted here!

wish i could post a pic on this site (but i’m a techno idiot), we decorated the entire hallway of our home with Michigan clothing, banners, flags, etc hanging on the staircase, the Hail to the Victors was playing on the CD, and even the dog was wearing a Michigan sweatshirt…all this to welcome my daughter home after her acceptance…My daughter is a fourth generation Wolverine joining her sister who is a current Ross student. She put a lot of pressure on herself to get an acceptance and was an emotional wreck all week. Think we’re truly insane, but it was such a release after the incredibly stressful week of waiting for this decision. In all our celebration I don’t want to forget those who are still waiting or are deferred, my heart truly goes out to you and I hope you all get good news soon.
