OFFICIAL University of Michigan Decision - Class of 2013

ugh, why dont i have a decision yet? everything was submitted 10/1

one of my roommates works in the admissions office, he said the decisions sent out yesterday were pretty much to kids that were pretty clear-cut for being admitted.

I'm not clear cut for admission? damn, probably because I'm OOS but I have a 35 ACT and top rank :P

excellent ec's and recs

bumping up

^Titan124: she got in with 3.1 GPA and 27 ACT? does she have a lot of EC's? and whats her major?

titan was she in state or out of state?

dsmo- ask your roommate when next round is coming out, lol

yeah dsmo, that would be awesome ^_^
or you can just check decision for me :P

Titan, did you actually see the acceptance. I find it hard to believe that a 3.1 student got into Michigan. The dozens of in-state applicants I knew who had sub 3.5 GPAs were all rejected...and that was back in the mid 90s, when Michigan's admissions standards were significantly lower. 3.1 students simply don't get admitted unless they have two or more of the following:

1) They attend a nationally recongized school such as St. Paul or Deerfield
2) Have close to perfect SAT/ACT
3) Have a major hook
4) A very rare background

I don't know how many times I have to post this, but Michigan DOES look at the full picture! I got in with a 3.1 GPA. No, not Kinesiology. No, I'm not in-state. No, I'm not an athlete. It DOES happen. Michigan is looking for a very well-rounded student body.

^liberate: would you mind to post your accepted stat? thanks

It's not relevant to this thread. I'm part of the class of 2012.

what made you special, and so well rounded? not trying to be rude, or cute. Just wondering what your ECs were?

Alexandre, Michigan is not that selective to begin with, so I wouldn't find it hard to believe if many applicants with mediocre GPA and test scores were accepted as long as there's still space available. The key to applying is to simply apply early. Compared to the other top universities, Michigan is probably the least selective institution. That's why Michigan should drop its rolling admissions policy and consider adopting the common application process.

jilldmd, no offence taken. But, I'm not going to make this thread about myself. Feel free to search my posts if you would like.

I completely disagree with ProudWolverine. As with any school, there are anomalies in the acceptances; that doesn't make the school easy to get into.

liberate, I searched and that is a pretty impressive hook. :)

ProudWolverine, Michigan is not that selective, but it is consistant. Unless a student can build a very convincing case, a sub 3.5 GPA won't get you into LSA or Engineering.

Accepted

Alexandre? consistent, are you serious? maybe when talking about sub par 3.5 GPA vs 4.0 GPAs but I have a friend with a 31 ACT and 3.9 GPA(in a tough schedule including 7 APs total) Two sport athlete and president of a club that got rejected from UMich while another got accepted with a 26 ACT and a 4.0 GPA(that only took 2 AP classes) that was a Student Gov rep but other then that not very impressive EC's, and I could name about 10 other examples of deserving students who got mooched on by other kids with far lesser stats, I would say Michigan is consistent up to a point, but as soon as they get up to the 28+ ACT and 3.8 GPA+ range UMich is not consistent at ALL, although I would say my high school isn't a fair judge of consistency for UMich admissions considering many parents of my friends in my high school class had connections to UMich admissions officers or donated massive amounts of money to UMich(i.e. one of my fellow classmates grandpa was COO or CFO of whirlpool one of the top 10 donors at Michigan and got their grandson(my classmate) in with a 20 ACT and a 2.8 GPA(unbelievable), and probably 7 or 8 other instances of this case) so connections definitely could have played a factor in the "lesser" students mooching in over the more deserving students, its possible that Alexandre is right and UMich is consistent but for my high school class I can tell you it was not consistent at all
