Writing (Subject, 1-10 rating, details):
Why Penn: 8/9 given it’s specificity
Ben Franklin Quote Essay: 9/10 → i said i moved and related it to my position as a coxswain and how I’m responsible for pumping up others to move
Any dual-degree program essays: nahhh
CommonApp Personal Statement: wasn’t my favorite but I believe it was good enough

Income Bracket Range:250,000+
Hooks (URM, first generation, recruited athelete, development): My school used to be a feeder school to Penn so there is a close connection (there used to be a full-ride scholarship award for one student in each year to Wharton). I had great recommendation letters, including a bioengineering professor. I’ve talked to the Penn crew coach multiple times but was not recruited (not sure if that helped or not).

Reflection: Stats are stats. Don’t let them discourage you. There really is much more to an applicant than GPA/SATs. I almost didn’t apply to wharton because I thought I wasn’t good enough. Advice: get specific for the why penn short answer; i talked about courses and cohorts and all that good stuff. Show them you did your research. Also show how your current experiences led you to choose your intended path. I did a lot of science research but applied to wharton. However, i tailored it so that i could explain how i wanted to connect science with management and I suppose it turned out rather successful. To those who were deferred, hang in there. Things may certainly turn around. I wish everyone the best of luck throughout the rest of your college processes!!! Feel free to contact me with questions
Strengths: extracurriculars, especially crew
Weaknesses: SATs
Were else were you accepted/deferred/rejected:
What would you have done differently?: Would have taken AP stat last year and taken AP Euro this year instead → essentially take more APs; maybe even an AP language

Essays:
Common App: I wrote about how Hermione Granger influenced who I am today, and honestly I loved this essay. This essay was very personal and quirky. It really hit me on an emotional level. I never thought of a second topic. This was the first one that jumped into my head and I felt very good about it. 10/10
300 Word Penn: I had an advantage because I really like the idea of a liberal education. I want to major in Biological Basis of Behavior but minor in Art History. It was a slightly boring essay though. 8/10
500 Word Penn: I was able to include the fact that my grandmother donated her body to the medical school at Penn. 9/10

Teacher Recomendation:
I had three amazing teachers write my recomendations. One teacher had even had me as a student twice. They are very supportive and have been throughout high school.

Interview went well. It lasted about an hour and a half.

State: FL
School Type: Small religious private school
Ethnicity: White
Gender: Female
Income Bracket: Middle middle class. (I saw someone describe themselves as this and thought the phrase fit perfectly.)

Hooks: Honestly, none.

Strengths: My essays, recomendations, and extra curriculars
Weaknesses: My SAT scores, I thought if one thing would keep me from getting into Penn it would be my math score.

I think I was accepted because they saw how much I truly love the school. That is what I believe they are looking for a lot in ED. I am truly blessed to be a part of such a great group. Best of luck to those not attending Penn. You are all amazing and I know you will succeed wherever you are!
