****OFFICIAL University of Pennsyvlania CLASS OF 2019 ED Applicants Discussion Thread****

To be fair, the stressing only started some pages back. Most of this stuff is application gremlins and stuff. Like disappearing scores and stuff.

The amount of times I check this site is unhealthy

@1025jerseyboy‌ SAT IIs!

@qqTTpp I agree with BigBadBull. It does not matter whether you rushed or not if you chose UPenn as one of those four free score reports BEFORE you saw your scores. If they emailed and said that they only have your app, I would go check on your college board account to see when College board sent your scores! (they prolly sent ~28th) Just wondering, did you have any other scores reported other than the November score?

@ELPsyCongroo UPenn has that application portal. I can only imagine the anguish that Stanford applicants have because I don’t think Stanford provides an application portal! They just email you information.

I feel you on that @justinn76

Okay, I am FREAKING out. Like I really want to get into Wharton :frowning: but I’m scared I won’t. And I know there is probably more chance I won’t than I will. But please be brutally honest on my chances of getting in. I applied ED as everyone else in here has…

SAT: 2290; 770 math, 760 writing, 760 reading
GPA: 3.95 (unweighted) (4.0 sophomore, junior, and will be senior year… I screwed up freshman year…)
Full IB candidate (Took full IB class load junior and senior year)
IB Scores: 6 on calc test and 6 on computer science
SAT II: 800 on math II, 710 on literature (I don’t know how I did so bad)
Academic Honors: National Merit Commended, full IB, National Honors Society
ECs:
Practicing Aikido for 11 years, 3 years at the original dojo in Japan I teach my own class at my dojo for 2 years
Soccer for 10 years, played at premier level (highest in my state) for 3 years won multiple tournaments
Varsity Soccer for 3 years JV for 1 year
Knowledge Bowl President placed 3rd in state
Volunteer at Swedish Hospital on PCU floor for a year
Tutor at my school for struggling students for past year
Played Piano recreationally (no amazing awards) for 8 years, I just play for fun

Also how do you feel my chances are for other schools that I will be applying RD like Wash U?

my recommendation letters are both solid 8.5/10. I submitted a supplemental from my Aikido teacher and that one will be fantastic easy 10/10.

I am doing a research project on cryptography under a mathematics professor who got his B.A. from UPenn and a PhD at University of Washington. It is very intensive and I mentioned it in my Wharton supplemental essay. I think both of my essays are somewhere between good and excellent. I talked about my transformation from when I first started Aikido when I was in 1st grade to how I teach now.

@justinn76‌ Same here, man. I have it open all day long and I keep refreshing at 20-30 minute intervals.

@Bailkun‌ You are obviously a very strong applicant.Scores are similar to mine! I feel like you would have a solid chance for Wharton. You have to keep in mind though that it is a crap shoot for any of these top schools… and Wharton is not the end all be all. You feel me? (also WashU RD you have a v good shot) No point in freaking out now. What is done is done!

@midwestbandie‌ @cstbzksfmgv‌ my interviewer got an extension because i was in china for a few weeks because of a family emergency. but yeah, it went well! pretty average as interviews went. i did an interview with uchicago and it was amazing, but the guy with u of c was only like 23, and working at google/sold his own startup, and just completely enigmatic and that was probably why.

@presque‌ Yeah, my interview was like that too. I’ve noticed that people from UChicago are generally very driven, motivated and personally accomplished. They do all sorts of crazy, innovative things.
Penn students are usually a little laid back and don’t have as much spark but most are generally very intellectual.

@Bailkun‌ As far as stats go, I think you’re in a sort of safe zone in the sense that nothing on your app will hold you back (The low literature score shouldn’t be a huge problem for Wharton, I think). But as for all elite schools, it’s a crapshoot. You can never be sure, unless you’re a recruited athlete, legacy student or the son/daughter of a donor but even in those cases, you can’t be sure. I know of a student who was a pretty decent candidate with both parents from Penn (one of them being an interviewer for over 10 years) but didn’t get admitted despite applying ED.
Furthermore, I generally think that Chance Me threads and posts are quite useless especially when they end with “I’ll chance back”. You’re asking students to evaluate your chances who are no more or less qualified as you are. It would make sense if admissions officers replied to these threads but unfortunately, they don’t. In fact, sometimes completely random people will tell you your chances just to play on your emotions and tell you that you don’t stand a chance just to make you paranoid. You just need to give it your best and know that you have, that’s all. The rest is up to the admissions committee, you can only hope for the best. Good luck!

8 days to go…

@Millian‌ college board sent my score at nov 23. Even two days before the score came out… And i did the oct sat as well, but the result was very bad… The nov one is much better. That’s why I’m worried about it.

I want these 8 days to pass quickly but at the same time, I don’t want 15th December to come. :S feeling ambivalent

All these feels :slight_smile: I didn’t think I’d one be lurking on a single thread for the past 2 weeks refreshing at 30 minute intervals until it just happened. I just can’t wait to get all this over with but for now… Asdfghjkl save us all from this anxiety!!

Anyone with wicked low GPAs on here? Like <3.7? (Non-URM/legacy) I’m just about at 3.7 UW now I think -____-

@pianogeek‌ 3.6 :smiley:

@justinn76‌ yay I hope we’re not alone!

How about lower SATers? I have exactly 2100, barely fit into 50th percentile on each of the 3 tests

@indorilnerevar‌ Hey, 2100 may not be a top score, but it’s still acceptable if within 50th percentile. That’s not going to drag you down. Low-ish scores+high-ish GPA fares better than vice versa, I think.
