Too many of y’all are playing with my emotions.
I got in. I can’t log in to my account on the portal, but I just got a giant package in the mail (in a typical yellow colored package folder thing with USC insignia on it). Inside it was the acceptance letter, a certificate, another piece of paper outlining what I was admitted for and how much merit aid I got, and then another one with stuff like financial aid information on it. Then there were just a couple packets of like “What’s at USC” and “Welcome to USC”.
@CaliCash I think good things are happening now
@capitalamerica: Congrats! post your stat to http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-southern-california/1732517-fall-2015-class-of-2019-usc-decisions-stats-only-thread.html#latest
So I guess the first girl was lying and the rest aren’t (different color envelopes). Congrats! Ughhhhh I don’t even know how to feel. I wish I lived in SoCal still
I wish I live in SoCal too
My parents are so going to exploit this for the next couple weeks. Now they know I will happily trot down to the mailbox (we are rural and have a long driveway), just so I can see if USC stuff came \m/
https://www.usps.com/priority-mail/map/ go here to see how long it will take to get to you. Zip code of USC is 90089
Which brings up a good point, I know we parents like to peek (and that can be ok if they don’t know we did) but if your S is fortunate enough to get a package, whether a scholarship or admittance in March, it is such a big deal when they find it in the mailbox. When you bring it in and have it on the counter, it is like opening their Christmas present for them. Still a great gift but some of the magic is lost. Imo, they shouldn’t get it from us, they should get it from the school. Having experienced this before, my S knows it is her job to get the mail for the next several weeks. It’s their reward for all their work, let them be the one to discover it! If it doesn’t go they way we hope, we are there through the disappointment. I suggest letting it be their moment either way. The reaction when they do is one of those rare priceless parenting moments that are so special. My friends tell me great stories of how theirs came screaming in the house, or called them crying…We are rural too and drive by our mailbox and I can still see my older S, opening the mailbox then looking back at me in the car, then pulling out the bright yellow envelope with a smile and expression that I will remember forever, so special! Hope you all have your own special moment!
Does anyone know the USC notification was also notified via youSC portal in addition to snail mail?
I live in New England and it’s very snow today, so maybe i gotta wait til Mon/Tue
^^
They will but not probably until mid next week. When they do, you’ll be able to RSVP to attend Explore USC for the scholarship interview.
Southern Cal and havent gotten anything in the mail… is it safe to say no scholarship for me?
@couplemoreweeks
No, I’ve mailed enough stuff with USPS to know that their deliveries aren’t always what they advertise. I’ve had a couple experiences sending out two packages in the same day and somehow they got separated and ended up a couple days apart…
Wow! What a lot of posts. It’s that time of year again. Congratulations to those selected to interview for scholarships (a couple have posted stats on the other STATS ONLY thread). I noticed a very modest capitolamerica gives a lot of the credit for his admission to being in-state. I’d like to gently remind him (and all) that USC tries to admit a diverse class and California students are really not at any advantage. In fact, a larger proportion of CA students apply–making geography not a tip at all. That being said, having very strong SATs and a GPA over 3.8 puts you in a very good spot for admissions, from a stats pov. Doing something amazing outside of the classroom gives you a big boost. To be selected for a scholarship interview is even more highly selective than simply admission, so stand tall. Even with the automatic NMF Presidential in hand, there have been cases where a student is bumped up to Trustee after his/her interview. It’s a long-shot but certainly possible. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for the rest of our cc pool of talent. Fight on.
@ARandomGeek
Thanks for the reassurance! Are the accepted people’s portal the same or do they have new stuff?
@capitalamerica Congratulations! Do you mind sharing where you live in SoCal? I live in SoCal as well so I’m practically dying of anxiety…
My portal still isnt working! What’s going on! :’(
I’m not home and asked my dad to check the mail. He made a huge deal about me getting something from USC…turns out it was just a postcard about financial aid. So disappointed! I’m all the way out in Tennessee so it makes sense that I wouldn’t get anything yet (if I’m going to), but he got me so excited!
Great post, ca dreaming. I Hadn’t really thought about it.
i live in socal too and i didn’t get anything
@mellyjune I live in the 818 area around Thousand Oaks (hopefully I don’t get stalked haha).
@madbean I always thought it being in-state was an advantage, hm. To be honest, I just assumed that for every school in CA I applied to, since it is in fact an advantage for the UC’s. USC is one of the most-applied to schools in our class (next to UCLA and UCB), and I assumed that since so many people were able to get in with a great range of stats that Californians had it a bit easier. Thanks for sharing!
