so for scholarship notification…when everyone says “by mail” it means snail mail right?
My daughter is also admitted to Uchicago and considering USC!
Cool, @Xmamma, what is her major and what drew her to USC and UChicago?
She is undecided for both schools but listed chemistry and linguistics in her essays. Uchicago brands itself as the school for the thinkers and that is very attractive for her. USC’s thematic option and double major (renaissance scholar) are interesting. Both have great study aboard programs – she is learning French and can’t wait to use it. How about your son#3? which school is close to your home? I secretly wish she will choose USC – close to us! Anyway, great meeting someone whose kid has the same interest as mine. How are your 2 Trojans like USC?
Count another with same interests @xmamma! Have 2 at USC. Current high school sophomore (S#4) is very much in to linguistics as well - pretty much has French mastered, and is also learning German, Spanish, Russian and Welch (have no idea where that came from) and dabbles in others. Starting Chinese this summer. Don’t know what she is going to do with it, but she is happy UCLA has a lot of linguistics as well, did she apply there or sticking with privates? Good luck to yours, anxious to hear how it turns out. Frankly, with #3 and some decisions in pocket already, I am so relaxed! It all works out!
@balhbalh Yes, snail mail. Portal is usually updated a couple days later, but who knows, maybe they will adjust their m.o… I actually thought scholarship info would be sent next Friday, closer to Feb 1st, but we shall see!
@msmommy Shopping can work too! (But incase no scholarship we all may need to be saving our money.)
Maybe doughnuts…or beer!
btw, you want to see a packet, not a letter or postcard.
@Xmamma, We live in Southern Illinois so I would LOVE for my son to pick UChicago, because he would be closer to home. His interest is neuroscience, so I think UChicago would be a better fit for him. That said, we are a Trojan family. In addition to my 2 eldest sons, I went to USC. I would love to see son #3 in the TMB.
When we took him to visit LA last fall, I thought for sure he would prefer CalTech over USC, but he was very impressed with the diversity of USC. Sons 1 and 2 both love USC and they are different as night and day. Son #1 is what you would think of as the stereotypical USC kid of the seventies/eighties – conservative, business school, frat boy, lives for USC football and parties. He loved everything about USC and wishes he could stay forever. He’s obviously smart enough to get into USC, but not what you would think of as a nerd or geek. I have to say USC prepared him well for the real world. He graduated in May and has a good job and is supporting himself. So many kids these days have to move back home, but he is doing what he loves and making a living doing it.
Son #2 is majoring in CS for games. At the risk of sounding politically incorrect, he is the white kid right at home among all his Asian friends. He is still making all As in Viterbi, which I think is pretty impressive considering the company he is among. Son #2 is very introverted, more politically liberal, quite the gamer, kinda socially awkward, doesn’t care a bit about football. Yet, he loves USC. He has really found his niche and is excelling.
I love that USC is the perfect fit for both of them, despite their differences.
@cadreamin, I’m with you! I am so relaxed this time around. With son #1, I didn’t know about CC and was blissfully unaware of the stress around getting into USC. (Frankly, I would probably be better off if I were still blissfully unaware of CC.) With son #2 I was so stressed out I couldn’t eat for 2 weeks near decision time in March. This time around, with an early action from UChicago, the pressure is off. Anything from this point on is just icing on the cake. Fight on and good luck to all.
Does the mailing have to happen on a Friday? Or could it happen midweek?
@LegacyMom My son is currently a Freshman CS Games major at USC. Your son #2 and my son sound like clones! We should get them to meet each other!
So hopefully someone from southern cali will post a comment saying they got an envelope tomorrow!
