damn, so if my status havent been updated yet, does that mean that were too late?

Not necessarily, but just out of curiosity…why didn’t you overnight the letter? You would have had proof that the appeal was received. And since college tuition is about $40,000 per year (less scholarships or awards etc.) why skimp on getting your appeal in on time?

I hand delivered my letter last thursday (4/8). My status was updated today, 4/13.

Dammit. I really wanted this whole status thing to be over with.

And, the letter said that about 80 total were taken last year with the appeals, about 720 people appealed. 20 were for FALL and 60 were for SPRING. So you can get in for fall, but the chance is a lot more slim.

I would like to think it would also be easier to appeal and get in this year than last year. I think USC doesn’t realize how many people cannot afford $50,000/year for college, so I think they won’t have as many matriculate as they thought. Also, I think not as many will appeal this year, but this is all just speculation.

@ellebud, i didnt overnight the letter because the post office was already closed, so i just dropped it in the mailbox…i REALLY regret not overnighting and shouldve waited til sat to overnight it…damn
now i just hope usc will still consider my appeal :(

If I receive a reasonable amount of financial aid I’m writing an appeal for my spring admit to be bumped up to fall. They say it won’t do anything, but I don’t think there’s any harm in trying.

@nagooya, welcome back! Are you those 20 fall admits were for fall of that year because multiple posters have said they know people who appealed and got in for fall of the following year.

Thanks. :)

I think it meant Fall 2009. I’m not 100% sure though, but it seemed that way because only 20 out of the 80 got Fall.

I sent mine in like last Monday (4/06) and I still don’t have a status update and I live in Socal… I would think that they would have received it by now…

Do you think they probably don’t even want to read by appeal, lol?

I bet they have to go through and sort through all of the mailed appeals. I think they probably just do something with the hand delivered appeals since they’re are probably only a few and they most likely got them before they got the bulk of the mailed letters… if that makes sense, hahaha.

This much I do know (my oldest daughter appealled several years ago and got in spring with an Articulation Agreement): Yes, they do read all the appeals that are in on time. They will read the hand carried ones first because they are right in front of their faces. I don’t know for sure but it seems to me, based on the experience of two friends, if you’re late…forget it.

Do you think they will wait until they found out what their yield is to take accept appeals? I’m guessing the amount of appeals they accept relates to the amount of students they have enrolling.

This year may, in fact, be different. However, in prior years there was a specific day when they called the kids that their appeal had been granted.

Was the specific day before or after May 1st? If it was in mid May of later, it’s likely they were making the decision based on the amount enrolled.

Last year they emailed people on May 16th. See post #58 (page 4) of this thread:

ellebud: why do think that it might be different?

anyone think that this year might have more appeal acceptances?

This year they are sending out notifications on May 14th.

My only reason for thinking that this year it might be different is purely based on our current economic climate. There may well be some kids who are forced to go to other schools because they are offered a better financial aid package. But usually it is one day and one day only.

Again, good luck!

i got the 4/15 update…
um…so does this mean they received my appeal 2 days late?

and for the ppl who appeaded, who havent gotten their update yet?

No, they probably just looked at it 2 days after it was received.

i handed it in in person on the 13th
and my last update is 3/31
so dont worry :)

same here i handed it in on the 13th
and last update is 3/31/09

hopefully it will update soon
