nice.

ok. i mailed in my appeal yesterday (4/10 fri at 5:00 pm). does anyone know if itll reach usc by monday (from norcal btw).

was the appeal suppose to be postmarked by april 13, or were they suppose to receive it by april 13?

I’m pretty sure it was by April 13th if I remember correctly from the letter. I sent my on Monday and I live in Socal so I’m pretty mine should have been received. I think it should make it on Monday.

Anyway know they notify appeal applicants? Will they be doing their “waves” again of all at the same time?

how long is yours?
mine is 2 pages :/

^mines is 1 page…i think in the rejection letter they asked for 1 pg,
but my guess is that its up to your discretion.

now im just hoping mines will arrive on time…

what do you mean by they asked for 1 page? I’m sorry if this is rude, but in the rejection letter did it actually say that if for some reason you wanted to appeal to include a 1 page statement?

I’m only asking this because in most cases schools say explicitly in their rejection letter that the decision is final.

what were your guys’ basis on your appeals.

Just wondering what you guys wrote…obviously im not going to use your basis

to nastynate:

hmm…well this is what it says on my rejection/faq letter:
“A one-page statement from you telling us why you wish a review of our decision.”

i wrote about how my ethnicity (which i left out in the initial app) affected my upbringing
(being a child of southeast asian refuges…most SEA (lao/cambodian/hmong) refuges are inadvertently confined to the inner-cities)

Do all the people in this thread want to go to USC bad enough that you would be willing to start in the spring or fall of 2010?

im down to go in for spring

yea, spring sounds like a plan :)

My son showed me his last night. It is 1 1/2 pages. He had 3 bits of new and compelling info so thats what made it so long. He is emailing it to my son at USC and he is walking it over to Admissions.

New info - an entertainment business competition he won, huge promotion at work and a letter from the teacher who inspired him to work in entertainment business. (he omitted rec letters from his original app)

I must admit, when I read the statement I was floored. It was very passionate and well worded. I didn’t realize that one of the reasons why he wanted to go to USC is that he wants to work in the entertainment/film business in Los Angeles during and after his time at USC. I didn’t know that - he never told me. I just thought he wanted to be a Trojan and liked USC because it was a good school. I didn’t know he was thinking so far ahead about his future. He is very driven - more than I thought.

Not sure if he will go spring, I didn’t ask him, but probably.

ebay, that’s awesome because that’s the same reason why I want to go to USC. I want to work in the business end of the entertainment industry.

The reason why I asked about the spring for everyone is because appeals can’t earn you a fall admission. I’m 99% sure those are reserved for the spring admits who get bumped up. From what people have previously discussed, appeals either earn you a spring admission or a fall admission for the following year (2010). Good luck to you all, and hopefully I’ll see some of you in the spring.

Mine is only 1 page because they asked for 1 page. But I did change the font size and headings to 0.9 instead of 1 inch…

Anyways, my parents were also part of that era of the southeast refugees and they were in Vietnam when the US was bombing there…

But I don’t think that would be quite relevant to me so I didn’t mention it. I just put their birthplace as Vietnam though, but I don’t think USC asked for that either.

I just wrote about some new stuff like awards, why I really wanted to go to USC, and how I’d be more than happy to a be a spring admit.

that’s interesting. well I guess it’s good that they are giving you the oppurtunity to have your decision reviewed again. I honestly have never heard of colleges doing that.

Nate - I think it is smart on USC’s part especially during this economy downturn. That way USC can see the yield by May first. Many admitted freshman may desire USC and have the stats to go there, but when the they and their parents see the reality of too many loans, they may go to a lesser school with more merit money vs loans.

The appeals do not cost USC anything. A lower than normal yield could open up a couple of spots in each school and after factoring in the Spring admits, USC will have a 3rd wave of back ups. A win for some appeal students and for USC.

In a way, the appeal students are proving to USC that they are the most committed of all to being a Trojan and making USC work for them. They certainly are still willing to persue their dream of going there when most have just moved on. These are certainly worthy students to have in their student body.

ok so how are we suppose to know if our appeals got there on time?
is there a site we check or what?

i sent mines in regular delivery on friday @ 5pm, from norcal (yeah, i know i shouldve done next-day, but everywhere was closed)…

yeah, is there a status site or something? is it just our same application log in?

thank you for that post ebay

my status updated again - It was last updated 3/31 when I got my rejection. Then it changed to 4/8 which would be about when they received my appeal packet. Same status location as before
