Hey everyone!
I didn’t see a thread for this already, but if there is one, let me know. Additionally, if anybody has any experience with successful appeals, that would be very helpful.
USC has been my dream for years and I just got the news I was rejected. It’s hard to accept so I’m hoping to appeal this decision, so I made this thread for other people who are also in this position.
USC provides the following information regarding appeals: Q. How do I appeal the decision?
A. To appeal the decision you must submit the items below no later than Friday, April 7, 2017.
A cover sheet providing the following information:
Your full name.
Your USC ID number.
The name and location of the school you attend.
A one-page statement from you telling us why you wish to appeal. We are most interested in new and compelling information that was not a part of your original application.
If you have not already sent your midyear grades, please report them through you.usc.edu or arrange to have your school send the Mid-Year Report form through the Common Application. To submit these, upload your documents via you.usc.edu, in the Submit Application Documents section, by choosing Appeal of Admission Decision from the Document Library. Q. May I submit additional letters of recommendation with my appeal?
A. No, we ask that you not do so. To burden school officers and letter writers on such short notice is not appropriate. Q. May I submit the appeal via fax?
A. Yes, you can print fax cover and closing sheets on you.usc.edu to fax your appeal. The fax number will be on the cover sheet. Q. May I deliver the appeal in person?
A. If you wish, you may deliver your appeal packet to the USC Admission Center. Q. When will I know the results of my appeal?
A. We intend to notify you by email on Friday, May 12, 2017. Given the small number of successful appeals, and that our notification will come after the May 1 National Candidates Reply Date, we recommend you accept an offer of admission to another institution. If your USC appeal is granted, we will provide further instructions.
Hey, I also just got rejected. I will try an appeal even though the chances are low. USC was my first choice and if anyone finds successful appeals or know what to write that would be great! Good luck to everyone
I guess this is USC’s waitlist. I like their way of doing it since others just reject me. But for everyone here, please don’t hold any expectations. Don’t get stuck at “bargaining” phase. Just forget about it after turning it in. Hope really hurts so pls don’t let it hurt again.
Dont waste your time appealing unless you have rich parents who can make a huge donation.
My D was ranked 11/590 with perfect gpa and 4.9uw. 31, 1450-800 math. Leadership, clubs, paying job. Against us? Asian, midclass - financial aid. 6 of her HS top 10, all Asians rejected. Accepted from her HS, 1 in Feb very smart white male Monk qualifier rank 3rd, plus 7 - none in the top 5%, 4 legacy white - B students, 2 very low income Hispanics a/b, 1very very rich Asian a/b. What I learned is that they don’t want all the smart ones, they have already identified them in the merit round. They need students who are going to pay full in order to balance out the need based. We are 30 minutes south of LA in a semi affluent neighborhood.
You are probably accepted to high ranked schools. Pick the best and make it count. Someday when you deep in your career, you will come across a USC grad who sits in the next cubicle doing what you do, making the same as you. However they paid $250k while you paid half! This is true event, my niece graduated honors from UCI, has been an Engineer 10 years into her career. In the next cubicle is a guy who has USC decorations all over his cube, doing the same job. One caveat, my niece has no debt, while the guy is still paying for his education.
@charcoalatey2021 that’s just my take. I thought maybe it was the ethnicity at first until we heard of the one of her Asian who was accepted. One of his parents is an executive at a big company in LA area but he is not an A student.
@AnxMom2021 Hm okay thank you. This is just annoying because, like your situation, my stats, EC’s, and essays were better than some of the people I have seen who were accepted College admissions really is a black box that I do not understand…
@CC2080 Need-blind means that admissions does not consider if you are asking for financial aid when evaluating you application, so that if you need financial aid, it does not prevent you from being accepted. I remember USC saying they were need-blind on multiple accounts.
