Ah. Welcome to SEAS, and as you'll soon find out, it owns your life.
You can't change your schedule until the first week of school. Why? See note above. It sucks, but it prevents people from dropping classes they need and guarantees everyone is in somewhat of the right spot. And so maybe you can't hog College classes, since you're bound to SEAS for a semester, even though you're really not? I take the first excuse.

Possible Sched:

Chem 141 & 141L
Math 131
Biol 201
ENWR 110

Am I going to have a difficult time getting all A's in these courses? I got a 4 on HL Chem, 3 on HL Math (come on, it was ridiculously hard this year), a 4 on AP Bio, and a 6 on HL English A1. How many hours would I have to put in a week to achieve my goal?. I'm probably willing to put in 30 hours at the most.

shoebox, I missed out on the "but I like you, so its ok" but I'll just assume its in there. I really didn't break a lot of curves. In 552 last semester I scored about average on every homework (which was like 9/10, needless to say there was no curve, and I think me and more than half the other kids got A's in the class). In my physics classes I was barely on the high side of average.

Modern was sweet. Peter Arnold was a great professor. The homework was intense though from him. Some of the problems just left me staring at the page for like half an hour wondering where to start! That was only grade I got all year I was disappointed in... B+ since I bombed the second test.

To get classes that are full, trying emailing the professor and telling them how interested you are, or showing up on the first day of class and asking nicely. It usually works!

You'll probably do okay. Four classes is not a lot, but the Chem and Bio will be a lot of work. But, you seem to have a grasp at material in those subjects, so it will be a lot of work, but do-able. How many credits is that total?

I'm taking some econ courses and intro to acting in the drama department. Should be interesting.

The dude is a genius, can't help it. At least he is humble about it.

I think you might have a different opinion if you knew me in person. Most people do ;). I think my resume/class list makes me look smarter than I really am. You would be very surprised at how many absolutely brilliant kids there are in the physics and math departments at uva. There were a couple first years in 552 with me that never ceased to amaze me. I also know a guy who is a Goldwater scholar who started his first year taking 3rd year physics classes and is at this point taking only graduate courses in his 4th year.

Hi everyone!

Tentative schedule:
ARAB 101 M-F 9-950
PSYC 220 MWF 10-1050
BIOL 201 MWF 11-1150
PHIL 100 MW 1-150
PHIL 100disc F 2-250
BIOL 201L F 3-5
MUBD 261 TRF 6-825
PSYC 220disc M 6-7

*Should I take this before PSYC 100? I heard from an orientation leader that this class was sort of difficult.

how many credit hours is that.

15 total, the class i was asking about is 3

Jask,

If you're taking Biol 201, you probably should take the Biol 203 Lab during the same semester.

My suggestion would be to ditch Math 131 and do Econ 201 with Mr. Elzinga.

That would be a very doable schedule with good spacing and locations, for a total of 16 hours. A bit heavy on labs, but if you're going to be a Biology major and Pre-Med, you might as well get used to that. In addition to the Biology 203 and 204 Labs, you’ll end up taking two Organic Chemistry Labs, two Physics Labs and another 300 or 400 Level Biology Lab. I’d get the Biol 203 Lab out of the way first semester.

This would also eliminate the 8 am Math discussion group for now.

Intro to African American studies 101
Psych 215 Cognition
Intro to Western Religious Tradition 101
Spanish Grammar Review 311

And either a politics or philosophy class if I can get in one.

Econ 301 - intermediate micro. I'm in the smaller section but I'm trying to get into the larger one.

Comm 202 - managerial accounting

Stat 212 - intro to statistical analysis

Sys 257 - management of e-commerce

Pysc 210 or Psyc 220.

I'm currently enrolled for pysc 210 however I am thinking about taking pysc 220. Will pysc 220 instead of pysc 210 make the semester harder? Any thoughts/ideas/experience?

Beware: It's that time of the year (well, the first time..the other happens in December) again when UVA's Registrar Office likes to mess with things. These things include: changing a class' building/time/day, totally removing classes, and changing around labs. They'll send you a nice email, signed "Yours Truely", stating the class affected, old info, and new info.

RIP Southeast Asia Politics for me. Got bumped to Mondays during an ECE class, so I'm on the prowl again.

LOL, HopefulHoo'sDad. I changed my schedule just before your post. I ended up dropping Biol 201 for multiple reasons. Since I wasn't registered for the lab, I figured that separating Biol 201/202 & Biol 203/204 was not a good idea and that I probably couldn't get into the labs because it is so full. Also, taking Biol 201 would mean I'd eat at 10 AM or 1 PM which kinda sucks compared to my 11 AM beat-the-rush lunch hour. Plus, I would have to walk from the Chem building to Cabell hall whereas with my current schedule, I don't rush to any classes. Lastly, the 3-5 PM test/review period on Fridays kind of hinders my attempt at getting a job.

That being said, here's my tenative schedule
Chem 141 / 141L
Math 131
ENWR 110
Econ 201 w/ Elzinga** Tues/Thurs 11-12:15

** I applied for the online waitlist thing so I won't know if it'll work out.
Backup: Psyc 101 or Arth 101

I think my current schedule is very balanced and won't be too difficult for 1st semester. I'll have 15 credits but I won't feel too overwhelmed. I believe that 2 labs probably would have been too much 1st semester.

jask, what major are you looking at? Why not switch math 131 with math 121?

Probably Biology, maybe Computer Science. I want to go to medical school so I figured that Math 131 would be the appropriate route...? Should I have signed up for Math 121?

Math 121 is a lot easier and a lot less work.

Well, I guess I could take Math 121 but I haven't seen any reviews of the Math 121 teachers. Diana Morris, my teacher, has gotten great reviews and her percentage of A's has broken 50% in the last 2 years. I mean how much easier is 121? Twice as easy?

There's less work, the material isn't as deep and the students aren't as talented/motivated.
